Sidney fire fighters & the Sidney village police department responded to a fire at 7 Clinton Street in the village at around 1:25 AM today.  Sidney Police reported that 33 year old David Ruling died in the fire, the autopsy is being conducted today and the results are expected later this afternoon, investigators are trying to determine the cause of the fire.

The Tri Town Relay for life to benefit area American cancer society, will be held at general Clinton park in Bainbridge may 3rd & 4th.  Area cancer society spokesperson Helen Gregory said that teams can still sign up to particpate:

Gregory said that last year, local fundraising efforts brought in about $100,000 locally, the numbers to call to sign up, or get more information about the American cancer society are 563-9634 or 563-8841.

Delaware county sheriff Tom Mills said that the Sheriff’s Department is raising funds to replace Defibrillators that are in use for more than 10 years, with new ones that may be used for the first time on children.  Sheriff Mills comments:

The Sidney chamber of commerce announced their annual citizen of the years and business of the year’s award winners, at this morning’s meeting.  The Sidney Chamber business of the years award winner is Trackside Dining, owner Nancy Hathaway comments:

The citizen of the year award will go to Dennis porter, who has worked with various area organizations including Sidney rotary and the Sidney United way:

The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office completed an investigation in the Town of Oxford where a subject who could not legally possess a shotgun, sold 1 to another subject who could not legally possess a shotgun.  Charged were 34-year-old Nadine Button for making a false written statement, she was released pending a future court appearance in City of Norwich Court.  Also charged, 18 year old Austin Demuth for 4th degree criminal possession of a weapon, he was located in the town of Colesville and arraigned in the Town of Oxford Court & was remanded to the Chenango County Jail on $500 cash bail pending future court action.  32-year-old Eric carpenter was charged with criminal possession of a weapon, He was arraigned in The Town of Norwich Court; He was remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility on $5000 bail and order to reappear in the Town of Oxford Court at later date.

Chenango county sheriffs deputies & the Greene Police Department arrested 51-year-old Jeffrey Taylor of Greene for Criminal obstruction of breathing or blood circulation, resisting arrest & Endangering the welfare of a child.  Taylor is accused of subjecting a child under the age of 17 to physical contact by choking her during a domestic dispute Saturday.  Taylor was found hiding in a closet, he was arraigned in the Village of Greene court and remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility. He will re-appear in the Village of Greene court at a later date.
