Oneonta Mayor Gary Herzig announced that the city has chosen Trampoline Advertising and Design Co. of Glens Falls to develop and implement Oneonta’s Downtown Revitalization Initiative branding, marketing, downtown directory and welcome signage programs. Oneonta was awarded $570,000 for the programs as part of the state’s DRI award of $10 million.

34 year old Tristan Reid of Scranton Pennsylvania was charged with reckless endangerment, reckless driving, unlicensed operator, leaving the scene of a property damage accident, & several other related charges, following an accident on Main Street last Friday evening. Reid is accused of driving into on-coming traffic, he went up a curb onto a sidewalk and lawn, damaged a street sign, & drove into the side of 365 Main Street. Reid was sent to Otsego County jail on $7,500 cash bail or $15,000 bond pending future court action.

The Otsego County Sheriff’s department announced that Margaret Thayer was found deceased near her Property in the town of Otsego this morning. Thayer was reported missing back on march 6th, Deep snow drifts had prevented deputies from reaching some of her property behind her residence, an autopsy may be performed, Sheriff Richard Devlin reported that there was no trauma to the body and foul play is not suspected, the investigation is continuing.

Norwich City Police arrested Regina Donovan on charges of Making a Terroristic Threat against a staff member at the Norwich School District Middle School. State Police arrested 27 year old William Laraby of Burlington for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation, Unlawful Possession of Marihuana and having a Controlled Substance in the Non-Original Container. Troopers received a complaint that Laraby borrowed someone’s car and did not return it; they located Laraby in the town of Exeter. Laraby was arraigned in the town of Exeter and remanded to the Otsego County Jail on $1,000 cash bail or $2,000 bond.

The Delaware County Board of Elections reminds voters that Friday, March 30th is the last day to postmark a registration form for the April 24th Special Election. April 14th is the last day to register in person at the Board of Elections for the April 24th Special Election to fill the 102nd State Assembly seat. Governor Cuomo announced that more than $9.7 million has been awarded to 12 Southern Tier municipalities through Round 5 of the Restore New York Communities Initiative. Southern Tier Projects include the demolition of the former Endicott K-Mart, to redevelop that site, in the Town of Sherburne – $1,000,000 will be used for the restoration of the Sherburne Inn, in Johnson City, $942,300 will be used for the Remediation and rehabilitation of 19 Avenue B for the Southern Tier Agricultural Foundry Development & in Binghamton, $60,000 will be used to demolish blighted properties & turn the areas into a greenspace & to redevelop the site for an affordable housing development

Democratic Congressional candidate Anthony Brindisi announced that he will hold a series of town halls in the 22nd Congressional district. Live town hall meetings will be held on April 25th at 7:00 pm at the Norwich Family YMCA, & on May 21st at 6:00 pm at the American Legion at 177 Robinson Street in Binghamton. 32 year old Jillian Hren of Walton arrested Sunday by State Troopers for operating a motor vehicle while impaired by drugs and criminal possession of a controlled substance, after Troopers were called to the Mirabito gas station on Main Street in the village of Franklin, where they discovered Hren asleep in her vehicle with the engine running. Hren was released with appearance tickets for the Village of Franklin Court on April 10.

Governor Cuomo announced the application for the Excelsior Scholarship for new applicants in the 2018-19 academic year is now open. SUNY students whose families make up to $110,000 annually can now apply for tuition-free college at hesc.ny.gov/excelsior. The State Labor Department released the unemployment rates for the state’s counties today. Locally, Chenango County’s rate was up to 7.3%, Delaware County was at 7.4% & Otsego County had 6.6 % unemployment. Statewide, the rate was at 5.1%.

Officials with SFCU announced today that they will not hold their annual “Hometown Day Parade” again this June, due to the Main Street Revitalization project, and the inability to find a suitable alternative route. Plans call for the parade to be brought back in June of 2019, with the official announcement expected in the Spring of 2019.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 53 year old William Davis of Sayreville, New Jersey on an arrest warrant issued by the Town of Franklin Court, for Criminal Contempt. Davis is accused of violating an Order of Protection last November. Davis was released on his own recognizance and is set to return to the Town of Franklin Court at a later date to answer the charges.

The State Senate passed legislation that would strengthen Kendra’s Law, by improving the quality of care provided to the mentally ill, and by making Kendra’s Law permanent. Kendra’s Law was first enacted in 1999 following the death of 32-year-old Kendra Webdale, who was shoved in front of a New York City subway train by a man with untreated schizophrenia. The bill will be sent to the Assembly.

State Police arrested 35 year old Thomas Taranto of South New Berlin for Operating a Motor Vehicle While Impaired by Drugs. Taranto was observed by troopers driving erratically on State Route 23 in Morris. Taranto was arraigned and was remanded to the Otsego County Jail on $1,000 cash or $2,000 bond.

Legislative Leaders in Albany announced that they expect to wrap up work on the state budget on Thursday March 29th. Local Assemblyman Cliff Crouch said that again this year, Governor Cuomo has added some policy issues into the budget, which he feels should be dealt with apart from the budget:

Governor Cuomo & state leaders wanted to get the budget deal done before the Easter holiday weekend; the budget is expected to finish in the neighborhood of 157 billion dollars this year.

State Police arrested 2 Springbrook employees who allegedly took inappropriate Snapchat videos of residents without their knowledge. Police arrested 20 year old Sharon McDowall of Oneonta & 22 year old Julianne Carbone of Oneonta for Endangering the Welfare of an Incompetent or Physically Disabled Person & Unlawful Surveillance, McDowall was arraigned and remanded to the Otsego County Jail on $5,000 cash or $10,000 bond, Carbone was issued appearance tickets and is scheduled to be in town of Oneonta Court Tuesday.

While tens of thousands march to end gun violence in Washington D.C. Saturday, many residents came out for smaller scale marches in Oneonta & Binghamton on Saturday. Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 56 year old Patrick Macdonald of Walton, New York on charges of Driving While Intoxicated, Aggravated DWI with a blood alcohol content of .18 or higher, and Obstructing Governmental Administration, Unlawfully Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle, and Reckless Driving, as well as numerous vehicle and traffic violations. This arrest was a result of a police pursuit beginning in the Town of Walton and concluding in the Town of Franklin. Macdonald was arraigned in the Town of Hamden Court & was remanded to the Delaware County Jail on $2,500 cash bail or $5,000 secured bond. Sheriff’s Deputies were assisted by the Village of Walton Police Department.

State Police executed a search warrant in the town of Unadilla, they arrested 28 year old Michael Schermerhorn, 32 year old Heather Prince, 40 year old Eric Hoyt & 37 year old Barbara Meyers, all of Unadilla, on a variety of charges, including illegal manufacture of Methamphetamine. State Police seized methamphetamine oil, 2 grams of meth, a sawed off shotgun, a digital scale and components used to make methamphetamine. All 4 were arraigned in the town of Otego Court & were remanded to the Otsego County Jail on $15,000 cash bail or $30,000 bond pending court action on March 29th.

Broome County Sheriff’s department responded Friday to a 4 car accident in the Town of Union. 30 year old Rebecca Crane of Sayre, Pennsylvania hit vehicles waiting at a stop light, she admitted to speeding as her husband 33 year old Gary Crane was in the car & wasn’t breathing due to a heroin overdose, he was taken to Wilson Hospital where he recovered. Rebecca Crane was charged with Driving While Intoxicated with child in vehicle, Driving While Ability Impaired-Drugs, Criminal Possession of Controlled Substance, Criminally Possessing a Hypodermic Instrument, Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Crane was arraigned & is being held without bail, more charges are expected.

Norwich Police arrested 49 year old Rebecca Evans for grand larceny and forgery, for allegedly stealing property worth more than $3,000 and about $7,600 in cash from the Norwich Purple Tornado Community Team. The thefts began in July 2016, while Evans served as treasurer; She was released on her own recognizance and ordered back in Norwich City Court at a later date.

21-year-old Jabari Ashe was found guilty today in Broome County Court, for the April 2017 murder of Tyquan Gumbs according to the Broome County District Attorney’s Office says the jury found Jabari Ashe guilty of murder in Broome County Court on Friday. Ashe was found guilty of the fatal shooting of Gumbs, whose body was found behind a residence on Fayette Street in Binghamton last year.

More than 5,750 consumers have received rebates to buy electric cars in New York since the State’s Drive Clean Rebate was launched a year ago. The Program provides residents with a rebate of up to $2,000 for the purchase or lease of a new electric car from participating dealers. Most of the consumers were on Long Island, or in Mid-Hudson valley region, only 217 rebates or 3.8% came from the Central New York region. More than 10,000 electric cars were sold in New York in 2017, a 67% increase over 2016.

The State Department of Health announced that for the 4th consecutive week, the number of laboratory confirmed influenza cases has decreased. Last week 3,005 laboratory confirmed influenza cases were reported, the number of weekly hospitalizations decreased for the 6th consecutive week, with 493 New Yorkers hospitalized. Since December, 20,612 people have been hospitalized with influenza, there have been 5 pediatric influenza-associated deaths this flu season.

The St. Baldrick’s Foundation will host their head-shaving event in Norwich Saturday, where 3 dozen volunteers will shave their heads to raise money for lifesaving childhood cancer research. The New York State Senate passed “Laree’s Law” this week. Laree’s Law would allow law enforcement officials to charge a drug dealer with homicide if a death results from the sale of heroin or an opiate controlled substance. State Senator Fred Akshar voted in favor of the measure, he said that High-level drug dealers who profit from the heroin epidemic should be held accountable for the lives taken from the sale of the deadly drugs, the bill moves onto the Assembly for consideration.

Governor Cuomo today announced new efforts to combat the opioid epidemic, including advancing partnerships in New York’s Prescription Monitoring Program across the country, training investigators with the New York State Department of Health’s Bureau of Narcotic Enforcement to carry and administer naloxone, and allowing hospitals to provide detoxification services without a separate certification from the New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services. The State Department of Health announced that their prescription Monitoring Program is now connected to 25 states and Washington, D.C., so that New York’s program securely shares and receives information regarding about 150 Million patients’ prescriptions records.

State Police arrested 54 year old Michele Bookhout of Schenevus, for Aggravated DWI with a B.A.C of .19%. Troopers were dispatched to a one-car rollover on State Highway 7 in the town of Milford, Troopers located Bookhout uninjured in her vehicle. Bookhout was issued tickets and released. She is scheduled to appear in the town of Milford Court on April 10, 2018.

State Police arrested 22 year old Rene Flowers of Oneonta for Criminal Obstruction of Breathing and 2 counts of Harassment, Troopers were called to Oneonta Job Corp, Flowers allegedly pushed, punched and choked 1 person & pushed another. Flowers was issued appearance tickets and released. He is due in the town of Oneonta Court on March 27th.

State Police arrested 34 year old Christopher Davis of Otego for Criminal Mischief and Criminal Contempt, after Troopers were called to a residence on State Route 357 in the town of Franklin for a dispute Monday. Troopers determined Davis had violated an order of protection and also damaged property, he was located in Cooperstown where he was arrested. Davis was issued appearance tickets and is due in the town of Franklin Court on March 22, 2018.

In the Village of Walton, Stephen Condon & Joseph Cetta won the 2 seats on the Village Board, in Unadilla Paul Baldwin & Matthew Glynn won seats on the village board.

Governor Cuomo today declared a state of emergency for the counties in the Catskill regions, New York City & Long Island ahead of the coastal storm, which is bringing another round of heavy, wet snow through this evening. 300 New York National Guard service members have been activated and will be deployed to areas impacted by the storm, and a travel ban on tractor trailers on certain roads has been instituted due to the hazardous winter weather conditions, which restricts tractor trailers, short and & long tandems trailers, from entering several Interstate Highways.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Office’s arrested 32 year old Andrew Baker of Bainbridge for Criminal Mischief. Baker is accused of intentionally damaging leg restraints while incarcerated at the Delaware County jail; he is scheduled to appear in the Town of Delhi Court on March 27th for arraignment.

State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman announced the guilty plea and conviction of Robert Niederriter of Kirkwood, and his business, Buffalo Head Bar & Grill, for failing to file numerous sales tax returns and remit over $59,000 in sales tax that was collected at the business. Niederriter paid $59,789 to the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance for the unpaid sales tax and was sentenced to a one-year conditional discharge.

State Police arrested 35 Year old Christopher Lindow of Binghamton for Driving While Intoxicated with a B.A.C of .29% and several traffic infractions. A passing motorist had contacted Chenango County 911 reporting that a vehicle was parked in the middle of the driving lane on State Route 26, in the town of Bainbridge. Lindow was arrested & was released on appearance tickets for town of Bainbridge Court on April 5th.

State Police arrested 49 year old Dwayne Lockwood of Guilford for DWI. Troopers were originally called to a dispute at a residence in the town of Butternuts but learned that Lockwood left the residence prior to their arrival. Lockwood was located by Troopers at a business nearby, he was arraigned in the town of Guilford Court, he was remanded to the Chenango County Jail on $500 cash bail or $1,000 bond pending an April 10th court date.

State Police arrested 19 year old Sarah Smith of Oneonta for Petty Larceny, for allegedly stealing state lottery tickets while employed at Leatherstocking Market and Fuels on County Highway 11 in the town of Davenport. Smith was arrested and issued an appearance ticket returnable to the town of Davenport Court on March 27th.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 41 year old Daniel Sulima of Walton, for Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle, following a routine traffic stop in Walton. Troopers discovered that Sulima’s driving privileges were revoked, he was also charged with operating a motor vehicle with unsafe tires. Sulima was arraigned at the Town of Hamden Court & was remanded to the Delaware County Jail on $150 cash bail, pending future court action.

State Police CNET officers & Oneonta Police Department executed a search warrant at 5357 State Route 7 in Oneonta’s East End. Police arrested 35 year old Benjamin Bockus of Oneonta for multiple counts of Criminal Possession of Controlled Substance, plus Criminal Possession of Marihuana, Criminal Nuisance and 2 counts of Criminally using Drug Paraphernalia. Police seized approximately 48 grams of cocaine, approximately 300 grams of psychedelic mushrooms, concentrated cannabis, 2.5 pounds of marihuana, 3 digital scales, cellular phones, drug packaging material and $7,985.00 in cash. Bockus was arraigned in the Town of Oneonta Court and remanded to the Otsego County Jail on $25,000 cash bail or $50,000 bond.

State Police at Troop C have released the results of their crackdown on impaired drivers over the St. Patrick’s Day weekend. 11 impaired driving arrests were reported by Troop C, while statewide, there were 217 impaired driving arrests in New York State on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Bassett Healthcare Network announced that William Streck will return to the organization to assume the role of President and CEO, following the decision by current CEO Vance Brown to step down effective April 20th, , to pursue opportunities outside of Bassett. Streck served as Bassett’s President & CEO from 1984 to 2014, he then joined the Healthcare Association of New York State as Chief Medical and Health Systems Innovation Officer. Troopers observed Darwesh speeding on Interstate 88 in Otego, A passenger 30 year old Michael Horton of Schenectady, was charged with Unlawful Possession of Marihuana. 41 year old Louisa Garcia of Oxford pleaded guilty to making a false claim against the United States for assisting in the preparation of a false tax return. Garcia admitted that she prepared 110 false tax returns between 2011 and 2014, resulting in an intended loss to the United States of $848,196. Garcia faces up to 8 years in prison, post-imprisonment supervised release of up to 3 years, and a maximum $250,000 fine, when she is sentenced on July 17th.

The New York State Fair Officials announced today that Rock & Roll Hall of Fame members “Blondie” will take the stage on the fair’s opening day on the Chevy Court. Opening day for the Great New York State Fair is Wednesday August 22nd at 8:00 pm.

The Delaware Academy Girls Basketball Team will celebrate their State Championship on Wednesday, with a parade down Main Street in downtown Delhi at 5:30 PM. The parade will line up at 5:00 PM at Clinton Street & will end up by the Social Services Building on Main Street, more information is available at delhischools.org.

Main Street in Oneonta was closed for a brief period this Morning, as Oneonta Firefighters tackled a small boiler fire, that required an evacuation, at the former Oneonta Hotel building, across from Muller Plaza. The fire was out quickly, Main Street was re-opened, no injuries were reported.


Oneonta Mayor Gary Herzig will deliver the annual State of The City Address tonight at 7:00 PM, during the Oneonta Common Council meeting. Prior to the annual address at 6:15, Mayor Herzig will present the annual Trailblazer Awards in the City Hall Lobby.

Broome County District Attorney Steve Cornwell announced that a $5,000 reward was issued for information leading to the arrest of 20 year old Valentino Mondolfi, who is a witness in the ongoing Broome County Court murder trial of Jabari Ashe. Mondolfi is described as 5 feet 6 inches tall, 140 pounds, with brown eyes and black hair. Anyone with information is asked to call Binghamton Police at 772-7080.

Delaware County Sheriff Deputy’s arrested 48 year old Michael Wright of Walton for DWI & Aggravated Unlicensed Operation, after deputies observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed in the Town of Tompkins. Wright is also accused of driving with a revoked license; he was arraigned in the Town of Hamden Court & was remanded to the Delaware County Jail on $500 cash bail. Wright is to re-appear in the Town of Tompkins Court at a later date.

State Police arrested 21 year old Johnathan Ruland of Lancaster, Pennsylvania for DWI, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance and Unlawful Possession of Marijuana. Ruland was stopped at a checkpoint on State Highway 7, in the town of Unadilla, troopers accused Ruland of possessing marijuana and cocaine & he was wanted on a warrant with the Village of Sidney Police. Ruland was arraigned in the town of Unadilla and remanded to the Otsego County Jail on $1,500 bail. He is scheduled to reappear in the town of Unadilla on April 9th.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested and charged 54 year-old Lorraine Hahn of the Walton for DWI in the Village of Walton, she was also issued a ticket for operating a motor vehicle with inadequate brake lights. Hahn was released on an appearance ticket and scheduled to appear before the Village of Walton Court at a later date.

Polling places will be open Tuesday from 12:00 Noon until 9:00 PM.

State Police arrested 49 year old Wilford Bridenbaugh of Germantown, Ohio for DWI and several traffic infractions. Troopers were dispatched to Stumptown Road in the town of Bainbridge for a 1 car motor vehicle accident, Troopers discovered Bridenbaugh’s vehicle on its side, in a snow embankment and Bridenbaugh walking from a driveway nearby. He was released on tickets to the town of Bainbridge Court on March 27th.

State Police arrested 2 men following a traffic stop on State Route 7 in Binghamton. Troopers arrested the driver, 43 year old Kenneth Rauch of Colesville for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance and having a Controlled Substance in the Non-Original Container. The passenger of the vehicle, 27 year old Justin Cook of Colesville was arrested for Criminal Possession of Marijuana, both were released on appearance tickets and are due in the City of Binghamton Court on March 30th.

State Police arrested 66 year old Deborah Visceglia of Deposit for Aggravated DWI with a B.A.C of .26% and several traffic infractions after Troopers observed her speeding and unable to maintain her lane on State Route 17 in the town of Windsor. Visceglia was released on tickets and due in the town of Windsor Court on March 21, 2018.

State Police at Oneonta arrested 49 year old Heidi Andreas of Masonville for DWI and several traffic infractions, after they observed her speeding on I-88. Troopers initiated a traffic stop on State Highway 7 in the town of Oneonta, Andreas was released on appearance tickets for Town of Oneonta Court on March 27th.

The Delhi Girls Basketball team won their 1st title in School History Sunday with a thrilling 54-51 overtime win over Franklinville, at the Hudson Valley Community College in Albany. Delhi was 3 points down with 5 seconds to go in regulation, when senior Logan Bruce hit a 3 pointer at the buzzer to send the game into Overtime, WCDO Sports Director Nate Lull & Color Man Dave Smith with that call:

Binghamton Police Department responded to 84 Pine Street Friday morning, where they found 51-year-old Lazar Jones deceased on the front porch, Jones was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. 41 year old Miguel Manchion and 21 year old Courtney Baldwin were both charged with 2nd degree murder The investigation is ongoing. Jennifer Grenchus of Vestal was sentenced Friday in Broome County Court to 5 years of probation, following her serving 11 months in jail, for striking 47 year old Ronald Richardson of Binghamton with her vehicle, Richardson was found pinned underneath. Grenchus’ vehicle struck Richardson along Main Street and dragged his body underneath for several yards, before she turned into a parking lot. Richardson died at the scene, Grenchus was impaired by drugs at the time, she pleaded guilty to criminally negligent homicide in November.
