A Town of Meredith couple was killed in a single-car crash around 3:30 p.m. yesterday in the town of Meredith. 65 year old Barbara Secord of Moravia, was driving on Turnpike Road when she lost control. The vehicle became airborne after hitting a ditch and struck a tree and stone wall. Barbara Secord and her passenger, 67 year old Tyler Secord also from Moravia, were killed. Deputies were assisted on the scene by the Meridale Fire Department and EMS, the Delhi Fire Department, Cooperstown Medical Transport and the Delaware County Medical examiner.

A Binghamton man, setting off fireworks, was arrested last Friday after police discovered 209 envelopes of heroin hidden in his pants. Police responding to an unrelated call at a Binghamton apartment building heard 44 year old Joaquin Molina-Cartagena setting off fireworks. Police discovered he had an outstanding warrant for drug possession — and while arresting him discovered drugs hidden in the front of his pants. Molina-Cartagena was arrested on drug, illegal fireworks and outstanding arrest warrant charges.

A former Harpursville high school teacher who was accused of having sex with a female student has filed a lawsuit against Broome County claiming wrongful arrest, a year after the charges were dropped. David Gatto was charged in March 2011 with felony third-degree rape involving a 16-year-old female student, according to the Broome County Sheriff’s Office. An attorney for Gatto brought a lawsuit in Broome County Supreme Court, claiming wrongful arrest and “malicious prosecution.” The lawsuit seeks unspecified damages.

Governor Cuomo and State Police Superintendent Joe D’Amico announced that on-line applications are now available for the upcoming statewide Trooper examination. Exams are scheduled for October 5, October 12, October 19 and October 26 and will be offered at several locations around the state. Those interested in becoming a Trooper can apply on-line at: NYTROOPER.com. On-line applications must be submitted by Midnight September 8.

State Troopers arrested 29 year old Philip Albergo of Hancock for DWI and first degree Aggravated Unlicensed Operation following an incident on State Route 10 in Hamden. Albergo was arraigned in Town of Hamden Court and sent to the Delaware County Jail on $5,000.00 bail.

Oneonta Troopers arrested 29 year old Christine Parshall of Morris for DWI with a BAC result of .10%. followng a complaint on County Route 14 in New Lisbon. Parshall was issued tickets for Town of New Lisbon Court July 17.

State Police in Binghamton arrested 22 year old Amanda Owens of Binghamton for DWI with a BAC result of .12%. following a traffic stop on Court Street in Kirkwood. Owens was issued an Appearance Ticket for Town of Kirkwood Court at a later date.

A 44-year-old Binghamton woman was charged with dwi yesterday morning following a single car accident on Carman Road, according to the Broome County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies responded to a report of a single car accident at 1:55 a.m. Upon arriving, deputies determined alcohol consumption may have been a factor. Sandy Yezzi was also charged with two violations: Refusal of breath screen device and moving from lane unsafely.  Yezzi was issued tickets and released pending a future court appearance.
