State Senator Jim Seward has given his endorsement to Republican Assembly Candidate Joe Angelino of Norwich today.  Angelino is the former Norwich Police Chief who announced his candidacy for the State Assembly seat held by Cliff Crouch, who announced that he will not seek re-election this year.  Angelino faces a Republican Challenger, Nick Libous of Binghamton.

Governor Cuomo announced an update on the status of testing for the coronavirus in New York State.  Samples from 17 New Yorkers have been sent to the CDC for testing, 11 have come back negative, and 6 samples are pending. There are still no confirmed cases of coronavirus in New York State yet.  A hotline has been set up for New Yorkers to call at 1-888-364-3065, where experts from the Department of Health can answer questions, they also created a website: health.ny.gov/diseases/communicable/coronavirus. .

WCDO NEWS FRIDAY 8-30-19 http://www.wcdoonline.com/localnews/wcdo-news-friday-8-30-19/ Fri, 30 Aug 2019 18:56:13 +0000 http://www.wcdoonline.com/localnews/?p=7191 Continue reading ]]> The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission has found that New York waived its water quality authority for Williams’ Constitution Pipeline, giving new life to a natural gas project stalled since April 2016 when the state DEC denied a permit.   Federal regulators have cleared the way for the Constitution pipeline project to move forward, if the company still plans to do so.  The original plans called for the pipeline to run from Pennsylvania through the Susquehanna River Valley to the Capital Region, Williams Partners appealed to federal courts after New York rejected a water quality permit over concerns for 250 streams. The project still needs a permit from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

Governor Cuomo today signed legislation closing the legal loophole that allows creditors to use New York courts to secure confessions of judgment and seize the assets of borrowers for cases where the borrower has no connection to New York. Prior to this new law, creditors were able to exploit New York laws to freeze and seize a borrower’s assets by obtaining a judgment entered in a court far from where the contested agreement was executed, making it difficult for a borrower to legally contest the unfair penalty.

The State DEC invites Public Comment about Proposal for No Further Action at the Amphenol Superfund Site on Delaware Avenue at dec.ny.gov until September 20th.  The DEC has also scheduled a public meeting on September 4th at 7:00 PM at Sidney Civic Center to discuss the proposed remedy and accept public comments.

A recent audit of the Village of Bainbridge found only 1 issue to be cleared up, after the village had spent over $4,000 at Barnard’s Hometown Hardware, while owner Erik Barnard was serving as a Village Trustee.  Bainbridge Mayor Phil Wade comments:

The State Division of Budget announced today that they are approving the State Board of Elections’ plan to distribute $10 million to county governments to support early voting implementation.  The State Budget allocated $24.7 million for assistance with implementing a series of election law reforms, including early voting. The State Board of Election’s Aid to Localities Plan can be viewed at nysac.org.

Governor Cuomo announced that temporary lane closures for road and bridge construction projects on New York State highways will be suspended now until Tuesday, at 6:00 AM, to accommodate travelers during the busy Labor Day weekend.  Governor Cuomo is urging motorists to follow the state’s Move Over Law & that state and local law enforcement will be participating in the statewide “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” enforcement through Monday.

State Police arrested 56 year old Stephen Christoffersen of Port Crane for felony DWI, after a trooper was dispatched to a 1 car rollover on County Route 32 in the town of Greene. When the trooper arrived, he located the vehicle on its side, Christoffersen was not injured, and He was arrested and arraigned in the town of Oxford Court where he was released on his own recognizance.

The City of Oneonta Department of Public Service is repairing a water main break at 42 River Street between Ann Street and West Ann Street today. Residents on Ann Street, West Ann, and Meckley Avenue will be without water for a portion of the project. Parking on the street will not be permitted, and the street will be closed to traffic for the duration of work. A detour route along Mitchell, Huntington, and Burnside has been established, however those affected may wish to seek alternate routes. More information is available at 432-2100

State Police arrested 27 year Sabrina Gray of New Berlin for felony of Aggravated DWI after a trooper was dispatched to State Highway 12 in the town of Norwich to check on a female who appeared to be sleeping in her parked vehicle. The trooper observed the vehicle running with Gray in the driver’ seat and a 5-year-old child in the passenger’s seat. Gray was arrested & the child was turned over to a family member. Gray was arraigned in the town of Norwich Court and remanded to the Chenango County Jail on $50,000 cash bail or $100,000 property bond.

State Police at Troop C are warning residents of a phone scam where the caller claims to be with NYSEG. Troopers recently have received several complaints from businesses where scammers threaten to cut service unless it’s immediately paid using a prepaid debit card. The scam also provides a call back number with a recorded greeting similar to that of NYSEG. Troopers warn residents never to trust anyone who calls you and asks you to make a payment using a prepaid card. If you have any questions about your NYSEG bill, call them directly.

The City of Oneonta will be performing maintenance on the down ramp between the upper & middle levels of the municipal parking garage starting today. State Police arrested 42 year old Christopher Prosser of Norwich, for Unlawful Imprisonment and Endangering the Welfare of a Child. Investigators learned that a child disclosed to another party that Prosser held the victim down in a chair and allegedly looked down the victim’s shirt in the summer, he is a registered Level 3 sex offender, and he was arraigned in the town of Oxford Court where he was remanded to the Chenango County Jail on $10,000 cash bail. He is set to appear in the town of Norwich Court on December 6th. The judge also issued an order of protection to the victim.

State Police arrested 61 year old Gregory Brown of Greene for Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs, after a trooper initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle Brown was operating on County Route 26 in the town of Afton. Brown was observed crossing the double yellow line, he arrested and later released on appearance tickets returnable to the town of Afton Court December 17.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 55 year old Kathleen Denario of Oneonta for Resisting Arrest, False Personation, Petit Larceny and Unlawful Possession of Marihuana. Deputies attempted to arrest Denario on a Probation Warrant issued by Otsego County & after a complaint in the parking lot of the Hobart Inn where Denario was located. Denario was arraigned & was remanded to the Delaware County Jail on $1,500 cash bail or $3,000 bond, pending action in Town of Stamford Court at a later date.

New York State Commissioner of Health Dr. Howard Zucker today announced that influenza is no longer prevalent in New York State. Dr. Zucker previously declared influenza prevalent in the state on December 13th; it peaked during the week ending February 17, 2018, when there were more than 18,252 laboratory-confirmed cases in one week. As of May 12, 2018, 128,020 laboratory confirmed cases of influenza have been reported and 23,317 people have been reported as hospitalized with influenza in New York this season. There have been 6 pediatric influenza-associated deaths this flu season.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 51 year old Mohamed Yvonnas, of Brooklyn, for DWI aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle & operating an unregistered motor vehicle. Yvonnas had a .13% blood alcohol content while he was operating a motor vehicle in the Town of Meredith, he was also found to be an illegal immigrant and to have an active warrant for DWI from New York City. Yvonnas was arraigned at the Town of Davenport Court and remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility in lieu of $5000 cash bail or $10,000 bond pending future action in Town of Meredith Court at a later date.
