Governor Cuomo signed legislation passed by the Legislature, to protect barbershops, beauty shops and salon service providers against individuals who steal their services. The new law will make it a class A misdemeanor, for those who fail to pay for services provided by a barbershop, salon, or beauty shop. Under previous law, an individual who knowingly failed to pay for those services was not subject to criminal prosecution, leaving certain small business owners at risk of financial loss with little recourse.
