Chenango County Fire Investigators are trying to determine the cause of a fatal fire Wednesday night on Granville Road in the Town of Sherburne. The fire was reported at about 6:30 last Wednesday Night, one woman died in that fire, her name has not yet been released, the investigation is continuing.

The Broome County Sheriff’s Department announced that 17-year-old Ali Masland was reported missing from her residence on West Chenango Road in the Town of Chenango late Wednesday afternoon. Masland is described as 5’2, 100 pounds with brown hair and black eyes, she wears glasses and she has developmental disabilities and may be carrying a backpack. Anyone with information on Masland is asked to contact the Broome County Sheriff’s Office at 778-1911.

The League of Women Voters announced that they will host a debate between 121st Assembly District Incumbent Democrat Bill Magee & Republican challenger John Salka. The debate will be held next Tuesday at 7:00 PM at the Oneonta High School.

The Sidney Central School Alumni Association’s Sports Hall of Fame 16th “Induction Weekend” is Friday and Saturday with 5 inductees & 1 Legacy Team selected to be honored that year, spokesman Greg Davie explains:

Induction Weekend events kick off Friday at Sidney Alumni Field when all honorees are announced at halftime of the Sidney versus Walton football game, following the game, all inductees, Sidney alumni and their guests are invited to a get-together at the Sidney VFW. Proceeds will help acquire an interactive “touch-screen” Sidney Alumni display permanently housed near the gym. More information is available at sidneyalumni.org.

Governor Cuomo signed legislation passed by the Legislature, to protect barbershops, beauty shops and salon service providers against individuals who steal their services. The new law will make it a class A misdemeanor, for those who fail to pay for services provided by a barbershop, salon, or beauty shop. Under previous law, an individual who knowingly failed to pay for those services was not subject to criminal prosecution, leaving certain small business owners at risk of financial loss with little recourse.

The 23rd Annual “Original” Grand Finale Cruise In will be held on Sunday October 7th from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. This year, the Cruise in will move across the street from the Sidney Airport to the Sidney Industrial Park at Winkler Road. The Bainbridge Chamber of Commerce will hold their next “Business After Hours” event today. The event will be starting @ 5:00 pm & will run until 7:30 pm at the Bainbridge Post Office.
