Delaware County Sheriff’s Office arrested 45 year old Nehemiah Clark of Bloomville and 25 year old Jordan Clark of Andes man on drug charges. Deputies assisted State Parole Officers with conducting a home visit at the Delaware County homeless shelter in Bloomville, where it was determined that the parolee was not at the residence and was violating his terms with parole, a vehicle was observed passing by with the parolee inside and a traffic stop was conducted. Deputies & K9 Dexter determined that both occupants were in possession of fentanyl, they were charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance & were released on appearance tickets to the Town of Kortright Court at a later date.

State Department of Labor reported that the state private sector job total was back up to 8.33 Million in February 2024, which is back up to pre-pandemic levels. The State’s unemployment rate decreased .1% to 4.4% in February, the statewide labor force participation rate held steady at 61.4% in February 2024.

The Delaware County Sheriff’s Office arrested 27 year old Ford Bailey-Banks of Davenport for 2nd degree Burglary, criminal trespass. On March 5th, 2024, Sheriffs Deputies received a complaint that Bailey-Banks had entered onto another’s property and into dwelling, where he stole multiple items as well a firearm, he was transported to the Delaware County Sheriffs Office to await Centralized Arraignment Processing and will be scheduled to appear at the Town of Harpersfield Court at a later date to answer for the charges.

State Police arrested 25 year old Jesse Micha-Hurlburt of Bainbridge, for Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Disseminating Indecent Material of a Minor 2nd degree, Coercion and Unlawful Publication of an Intimate Image. On December 8, 2023, State Police received a report of an unknown individual requesting indecent material from a minor over text message and social media, he was arrested earlier this week, and was transported to Chenango County Jail.

The Otsego County Sheriff’s Office arrested 39 year old Timothy Melius of Pittsfield for Aggravated Cruelty to Animals, Failure to Provide Sustenance to Animals, Endangering the Welfare of a Child & Harassment following an investigation in to reported on-going child abuse in the Town of Pittsfield. Investigation revealed that Melius allegedly subjected minors to physical abuse & for intentionally kill a kitten with a baseball bat. Melius was located Wednesday and was taken in to custody, and was being held at the Otsego County Correctional Facility pending future court action, an order of Protection was requested to be issued on behalf of the victims.

State Police today announced that it issued 5,576 tickets during this year’s St. Patrick’s Day enforcement initiative. State Troopers arrested 132 people for DWI and investigated 199 crashes, which resulted in 25 people being injured and no fatalities. Troopers ticketed 1788 for speeding, 406 tickets were issued in the Troop C area.

The Broome County Sheriff’s Office announced that 34 year old Veronica Mitchell of Endicott, was located by their Warrants Division, with the assistance of the Binghamton Police Department, State Parole, and State Police Violent Felony Warrant Division. Mitchell was found at a residence on Day Hollow Road in the Town of Owego, hiding in a storage room, she was arrested and transported to the Broome County Correctional Facility. Mitchell was wanted regarding felony drug and weapon possession charges and was additionally charged with Resisting Arrest and Obstructing Governmental Administration, she will be arraigned in the Town of Owego Court at a later date.

Otsego County Sheriff’s Office arrested 41 year old Shaliek Varra of Otego following a traffic stop on February 26, in the Town of Otego. Varra was charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation or a motor vehicle, speeding & other related charges, he was issued an Appearance ticket and will appear in Otego Court at a later date.

The Vestal Police Department arrested 43 year old Lori Littler of Vestal on a variety of drug charges. Members of the police department executed a search warrant at Littler’s residence, they seized methamphetamine, fentanyl, cocaine, suboxone, plus Packaging materials & Scales, Littler was remanded to the Broome County Jail to await arraignment.

Otsego County Sheriff’s Office arrested 23 year old Lucian Decker of Pittsfield, for 2nd degree Assault with a weapon, Endangering the Welfare of a Child, plus he was wanted on 2 warrants. Decker was arrested following an investigation into an assault in the Town of Morris on April 7 2022, where he allegedly struck the victim in the head with a lead pipe after an argument, Decker fled the scene & left the state, earlier this month, deputies learned that Decker was back in the area, and was involved in another incident that is still under investigation. Decker was located in the Town of Pittsfield and was taken into custody without incident, he was arraigned & was remanded to the Otsego County Jail on $3,000 cash bail/$30,000 secured bond.

The Broome County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating a one-person motorcycle accident with injuries on Interstate Route 81 South between Exits 1 and 2 in the Town of Kirkwood Tuesday. The initial investigation revealed that the motorcyclist was the only individual involved and speed was a factor in the crash. The motorcyclist was transported to Wilson Hospital with serious injuries.

Governor Hochul announced that $20 million in state funding has been awarded to 7 counties and New York City to improve public safety and emergency communications. The funding can be used to install new equipment, enhance public safety radio systems, Locally, Chenango County will get $3 million in funding for a 25 digital radio system to bring multiple agencies into a single radio system.

The Broome County Sheriff’s Office and SUNY Broome have partnered on a program to begin introducing community college “life skills” curriculum to incarcerated men and women at the Broome County Correctional Facility. The pilot program consists of five, 1-hour weekly classes taking place over five weeks, offered in both a male and a female housing pod. Undersheriff Sam Davis is the instructor for each class, he previously served as the Director of Training for the Broome County Sheriff’s Office and taught several criminal justice courses at SUNY Broome over the past 8 years.

U.S. Senators Chuck Schumer & Gillibrand announced that the the U.S. Department of Agriculture will provide a historic investment of $82,141,000 to Upstate New York to bring clean water, to rural communities. Locally, the Village of Greene will receive $11 Million Dollars in funds and almost 9 Million Dollars in Grant money to replace water mains, fire hydrants and update water meters and meter-reading equipment.

State Police arrested 36 year old Michael Crandall of Apalachin when he was released from an area Hospital, he was charged with 1 count of 2nd degree Murder and 3 counts Criminal Contempt. Crandall is accused of killing a woman in a domestic dispute last Monday at 10 Debra Lee Drive in Apalachin, he was arraigned in a Tioga County Court on Friday, the incident remains under active investigation and further details will be released as appropriate pending further criminal court actions.

The Otsego County Sheriff’s Office arrested 30 year old Tyler Culver of Otego following the execution of a search warrant on Saturday. Culver faces multiple counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance. Broome County Sheriff’s Road Patrol initiated a routine traffic stop Tuesday of a pickup truck on Route 17 West near Exit 71 in Binghamton. The driver, 35 year old Kyle Kasmarcik of Port Crane, was found to have a suspended license. The investigation and towing of the vehicle uncovered a loaded and unregistered 9mm handgun, a digital scale and a small bag of white crystal-like substance, which field tested positive for methamphetamine. Also found in the truck was a separate license plate, which was used on the same vehicle a day prior Kasmarcik was taken into custody and charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia, Aggravated Operation of a Motor Vehicle, along with other similar charges, Kasmarcik was taken to Central Arraignment and remains in custody at the Broome County Sheriff’s Correctional Facility.

Effective immediately, Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown has re-instituted temporary masking requirements per COVID-19 safety guidelines, all patients, visitors, employees, students, and volunteers are now required to wear medical-grade masks across Bassett Medical Center’s facilities in Cooperstown. Masks will be available at all entrances. Currently, the number of COVID-19 cases confirmed among employees at Bassett Medical Center reached the threshold for masking, the requirement will be reassessed in 14 days and lifted as soon as the number of active COVID-19 cases within the facility falls below the established threshold. The Cobleskill Health Center also currently has temporary masking measures.

The United States Attorney’s Office announced that 33 year old Dupray Jordan of Binghamton entered a guilty plea in US District Court for possessing fentanyl and methamphetamine with the intent to sell, possessing a firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking, and possessing a firearm and ammunition as a convicted felon, in connection with a warrant executed in November of 2021. Jordan faces up to 20 years in prison, a series of fines, when he is sentenced on May 8, 2024 in Syracuse.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies were contacted by members of the Broome County Sheriff’s Office December 19th, that they had 59-year-old Eva Witteman in custody. Delaware County Deputies took Witteman into custody and transported her to the Delaware County Correctional Facility where she was arraigned & held without bail, an indictment was unsealed & she is accused of possessing methamphetamine following an investigation of an abandoned vehicle in February, she was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia, she was was released on her own recognizance and directed to appear in court at a later date for these charges.

The State Police are continuing the special enforcement initiative to crack down on impaired and reckless driving this holiday season. The enforcement campaign is part of the national “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” initiative and runs from Wednesday, December 13, 2023, through Monday, January 1, 2024. Drivers can expect to see sobriety checkpoints, Troopers will be watching for distracted drivers, vehicle occupants who are not properly buckled up, and drivers violating the “Move Over Law,” State Police will also conduct underage drinker enforcement details statewide. During last year’s crackdown, State Police arrested 453 people for DWI and issued 32,934 tickets, including 11,305 tickets for speeding, 912 for distracted driving, and 316 for the “Move Over Law.”

Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested 32 year old Keith Tompkins of Oxford for several counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, 9 counts of Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia, after deputies observed a male, laying on the floor in the back of the vehicle, attempting to conceal himself by hiding under automotive parts. Tompkins had an active arrest warrant out of the Village of Oxford Court for Unlawful Fleeing of a Police Officer. Tompkins was in possession of over 2 ounces of crack cocaine, about 4 ounces of crystal Methamphetamine, 1,150 wax envelopes of Fentanyl, packaging material, digital scales, and over $2,000 in cash from suspected drug sales. Tompkins was arraigned and was remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility without bail. Tompkins is to appear in Chenango County Court at a later date.

Norwich Firefighters responded early Thursday Morning to 137 Horstman Lane for a reported structure fire in a mobile home, they located a fire in the ceiling and roof area of the structure. Crews quickly extinguished the fire containing it to the room of origin along with ensuring all occupants were clear of the structure. Firefighters from New Berlin & North Norwich also responded, the cause of the fire is under investigation. No injuries were reported & all occupants safely evacuated without injuries.

28 year old Devon Ireland of Unadilla pleaded guilty to Attempted Disseminating Indecent Material to Minors, in Delaware County Court, he admitted that he was sending sexual messages to a person he believed to be a minor, Ireland is a registered sex offender, it was later revealed that the person he was messaging was an adult, decoying as a child. Ireland will be sentenced to 1 year in jail, he will be required to pay fines and surcharges & he will provide a sample of his DNA for the state data bank. Ireland was remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility pending sentencing on January 29.

State Police responded to a 3-vehicle crash in the town of Newfield, with 1 fatality reported. The investigation revealed that a Toyota and a Jeep were traveling north, The Jeep was stopped for another vehicle in front of it making a turn when the Jeep was rear-ended by the Toyota, which then went into on-coming traffic and was struck by a Cadillac. A passenger of the Toyota, 17-year-old Peyton Shaw of Waverly was pronounced dead on scene, The operator of the Toyota 18-year-old Dale Beeman of Spencer, was transported to Packer Hospital, the operators of the other vehicles were treated at the scene by EMS & were released.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 37 year old Ashley Brooker of Walton for driving with a suspended Driver’s license following a motor vehicle accident. On Friday September 28th, Deputies responded to a 1 car accident where a vehicle went over an embankment and overturned. Brooker fled the scene and attempted to have the vehicle removed by a tow company without reporting the accident. Brooker was charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Unsafe Tires, Speed not Reasonable and Prudent, moving from a lane unsafely, Failure to keep right, along with various lesser charges, she will appear in the Town of Walton Court at a later date.

Otsego County Sheriff’s Office arrested 59 year old Edward Orezzoli for Official Misconduct following an investigation in the Town of Otsego on September 18th. Orezzoli was charged after a complaint in the Town of Otsego, where Orezzoli allegedly arrived at a residence in the Town of Otsego and provided the homeowner with his government identification before entering the residence without permission. The homeowner contacted 911 and deputies responded, however Orezzoli left prior to the arrival of law enforcement, he was located in the Town of Milford & was taken in to custody, he was processed and released with an Appearance Ticket returnable to the Town of Otsego Court at a later date.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 18 year old Craig Longo of Rocky Point for driving while ability impaired by drugs, and criminal possession of a weapon. On September 24th, Deputies were assisting Delhi Police, State Police, and SUNY Delhi Police with a failure to comply traffic violator in the Village of Delhi. Patrols located the vehicle in question on Back River Road in the Town of Delhi, and that Longo had been operating the vehicle, he was released on appearance tickets and directed to appear at the Town of Delhi court at a later date to answer the charges.

Police in Virginia reported that 34 year old Tatiana David of Ithaca, who was abducted from Ithaca yesterday morning, has died following a shootout with Police on I-95 in Springfield Virginia. Virginia State Police said that a trooper spotted the Jeep Cherokee that was the suspected kidnapper’s vehicle Wednesday Night, Police pulled the Jeep over & the trooper made contact with the driver and returned to his patrol car, the Jeep sped off and police pursued for about 20 miles, state police positioned vehicles around the Jeep to force it to stop. Virginia State Police said that the driver 35 year old Michael Davis began firing shots as troopers approached the Jeep, Troopers returned fire, Davis was shot and suffered life-threatening injuries, Tatiana David was shot and killed during the incident.

Delaware County District Attorney’s office announced that 33 year old Andelis Santiago of Hartford Connecticut, was convicted on 1 count of Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs and Unlawfully Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle in the Town of Hancock Court. Santiago was alleged to have been speeding on State Route 17 in the Town of Hancock, State Police initiated a traffic stop, & he failed to stop his vehicle for approximately 8 miles, until he drove off the road. Santiago was fined $1,400, plus a $50 DNA fee for submitting a sample for the State DNA databank, he was also ordered to attend a Victim’s Impact Panel and successfully complete an Impaired Driver Program & he must undergo a drug and alcohol evaluation, he could face a year in jail if he fails to comply.

Broome County Sheriff’s Office responded to a domestic dispute Monday, 30 year old Stephen Pudiak of Port Crane is accused of placing a gun at his girlfriend & also allegedly choking the women, in front of her 3-year-old daughter, she snuck away from their residence to file charges with the Broome County Sheriff’s Office when Pudiak fell asleep. Deputies made contact with Pudiak and took him into custody without issue, they seized weapons that he was not allowed to possess, he was taken to the Broome County Sheriff’s Office Central Arraignment and charged with 5 counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon, Unlawful Possession of a Large Capacity Ammunition Feeding Device, Criminal Obstruction of Breathing & menacing.

26 Year old Brandin VanTassel of Walton, was sentenced Monday in Delaware County Court for Criminal Contempt. VanTassel previously pleaded guilty to Criminal Contempt in February, with a 6 month sentence & 5 years’ probation supervision, he contacted the protected party again in violation of the order of protection, Delaware County Court Judge Gary Rosa ruled that as a result of the new conduct, the Court was not bound by the original plea agreement, VanTassel was re-sentenced to 1 and 1/3 to 4 years in state prison.

The Broome County Sheriff’s Office announced that they have located Dalton Lannon in Kirkwood. Lannon was wanted on an outstanding warrant for violating his probation for criminal mischief, the Sheriff’s Office received many tips from the public after announcing that they were looking for Lannon on Wednesday.

Argo said that Basset operates the largest school based health network in New York State with 21 schools in 17 area districts participating in the program.

The New York City Department of Environmental Protection, Friends of the Upper Delaware River, and the Upper Delaware River Tailwaters Coalition will hold a public information meeting to discuss the 2023 Delaware Aqueduct shutdown. DEP officials will be discussing the details of the upcoming shutdown and repair project and how it will impact the management of the Delaware River basin reservoirs and the Upper Delaware River. The Meeting will be held on April 11th from 6:00 to 7:00 PM at the Hancock Town Hall, 661 West Main Street, Hancock, a Zoom Link can also be obtained from one of the organizing agencies.

The Broome County District Attorney’s Office announced that 39 year old Richard Lance of Kirkwood, was sentenced to 1 to 3 years in State prison after entering a plea of guilty to Failure to Comply with the New York State Sex Offender Registration Act. During August of 2022, Lance reported to law enforcement that he was residing at an address in the Village of Johnson City, while he was actually residing at the Dell Motel on Upper Court Street. Lance was convicted of a 3rd degree Rape in 2008 in Broome County.

Delaware County District Attorney’s Office announced that 24 year old Patrick Combs of Grand Gorge pleaded guilty to Grand Larceny and Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs, in Delaware County Court. Combs stole over $3,000.00 from the Roxbury Country Store, also, on January 15th, he operated a motor vehicle on State Highway 30, while impaired by drugs. Combs will be sentenced to 1-3 years in state prison for his conviction of Grand Larceny & 364 days in jail for driving while his ability was impaired by drugs, the sentences will run concurrently.

The Otsego County Sheriff’s Office arrested 35 year old Rex Jordan for Criminal Possession of Stolen Property, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, DWI, Unlawful Fleeing in a Motor Vehicle, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation & Numerous other Vehicle and Traffic violations. An Otsego County Sheriff’s deputy and State Parks Police officer observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed on State Highway 205, Jordan failed to comply and became involved in a 1 car motor vehicle accident, he was taken to Bassett Hospital. Police discovered that the vehicle had been reported stolen out Oneonta. Jordan was discharged from Bassett before charges were filed, A warrant was issued & he was located by the Oneonta City Police Department who arrested him on unrelated charges. Jordan was processed and lodged in the Otsego County Correctional Facility, Additional charges are pending.

The Otsego County Sheriff’s Office arrested 34 year old Emario Lynch of the Bronx in the town of Morris for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance & Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia. Deputies observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed. Deputies stopped the vehicle a short time later and found it to have switched plates and no insurance, Lynch was also found to possess crack cocaine and MDMA. Lynch was released on an appearance ticket & is set to appear in the Town of Morris Court at a later date.

The Chenango County Department of Public Health is offering a free rabies clinic for Chenango County pet owners on Saturday, from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at the Guilford Highway Department, located at 223 Marble Road in Guilford. The clinic is for Dogs Cats & Domesticated Ferrets.
