State Police are participating in the national enforcement initiative to crack down on impaired driving this holiday season. The national “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign, began today & runs through Monday, January 1st, 2024. In addition to the DWI checkpoints and patrols, Troopers will be watching for distracted drivers, vehicle occupants who are not properly buckled up, and drivers violating the “Move Over Law,” which requires motorists to exercise extreme caution when passing emergency vehicles that are stopped in or on the side of the road. State Police will also conduct underage drinker enforcement details statewide.

The National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum will celebrate the Texas Rangers’ 2023 World Series championship through Autumn Glory, the Museum’s tribute to the postseason. The display honoring the 2023 champions is now open, and entrance to Autumn Glory is included with Museum admission. Several artifacts used by players coaches & managers will be included in the exhibit, which will be on display through the conclusion of the 2024 Major League Baseball postseason.

The State Court of Appeals ordered new Congressional maps be drawn for the 2024 election, the redistricting decision will ensure that all , district lines should be drawn by the Independent Redistricting Commission, and not by state lawmakers.

28 year old Devon Ireland of Unadilla pleaded guilty to Attempted Disseminating Indecent Material to Minors, in Delaware County Court, he admitted that he was sending sexual messages to a person he believed to be a minor, Ireland is a registered sex offender, it was later revealed that the person he was messaging was an adult, decoying as a child. Ireland will be sentenced to 1 year in jail, he will be required to pay fines and surcharges & he will provide a sample of his DNA for the state data bank. Ireland was remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility pending sentencing on January 29.

State Police responded to a 3-vehicle crash in the town of Newfield, with 1 fatality reported. The investigation revealed that a Toyota and a Jeep were traveling north, The Jeep was stopped for another vehicle in front of it making a turn when the Jeep was rear-ended by the Toyota, which then went into on-coming traffic and was struck by a Cadillac. A passenger of the Toyota, 17-year-old Peyton Shaw of Waverly was pronounced dead on scene, The operator of the Toyota 18-year-old Dale Beeman of Spencer, was transported to Packer Hospital, the operators of the other vehicles were treated at the scene by EMS & were released.

State Police arrested 34 year old Joshua Bean of Endicott for 3 counts of Menacing, State Police responded to a complaint at Highland Park in the town of Union, where Bean allegedly menaced 3 people with a pocket-knife while they were working at the holiday fireworks display. Bean was arrested then transported to the Broome County Correctional Facility for arraignment.

Governor Hochul signed Angelica’s Law, which decreases the number of prior license suspensions needed to qualify for aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle. The legislation was named for Angelica Nappi who lost her life after being killed by a driver with multiple prior suspensions.
