State Police conducted an Underage Drinking Initiative in Chenango County & 1 establishment was not in compliance and sold alcohol to a minor. Police said that B&W wines & Liquors of Bainbridge was not in compliance under the New York Beverage Control Law Section 65, the unidentified clerk was issued an appearance ticket to answer to the charge at a later date.

Area School district announced that they are aware of the latest social media post threatening gun violence at un-named schools today. A TikTok post was circulating like last week, it is not specific to any specific school district, area law enforcement agencies are aware of the threat & schools will be vigilant in their security efforts today, which may include lockdowns again.

Chenango County Public Health announced that they have 60 second-doses scheduled to complete & they are also anticipating over 1,000 Pfizer doses to arrive this week, which can be used for ages 12 and up. UHS Chenango Memorial Hospital’s Sidney office on Pearl Street, will host a Pfizer vaccination Clinic this Friday from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Local Dr. Rohan Jayasena told WCDO News that the Pfizer Vaccine is the favored Vaccine for children 12 to 18, that will enable them to get back to pre-covid activities like school & sports:

Delhi Village Police responded on May 8th for a report of a person passed out behind the wheel of a running motor vehicle, Police found 3 people who all appeared to be suffering from an opioid overdose. They were taken to O’Connor Hospital for treatment. Police discovered of a small amount of heroin in the vehicle; resulting in the arrests of 60-year-old Ronald Alston of Portlandville, 69-year-old Charles David Jr. of Delhi & 67-year-old Thaddeus David of Portlandville on drug charges, all 3 were released with appearance tickets returnable to the Delhi Town Court.

The National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum announced expanded summer hours beginning this Sunday, from 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM through Sunday of the Labor Day weekend. Timed admission tickets are available for purchase at baseballhall.org on a first-come, first-served basis; this will allow visitors to reserve a specific date and time to enter the Museum, alleviating congestion in the front lobby and throughout the Museum. Governor Cuomo announced that, based on current COVID trajectory, all New York State schools will reopen for full in-person learning for the 2021-2022 school year beginning in September. The Governor said that if there is a change in the trajectory of the virus, they will revisit this decision.

The Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee joined with law enforcement to announce the kickoff of the annual “Buckle Up New York, Click it or Ticket” campaign. The enforcement mobilization runs until June 6th, State Police and local law enforcement agencies will use marked and unmarked vehicles, have set up checkpoints, and roving details, & they will ticket unbelted drivers during the campaign.

This legislation builds on the Red Flag Bill signed in February that prevents individuals who show signs of being a threat to themselves or others from purchasing or possessing a firearm and it builds on legislation Governor Cuomo signed Monday extending the background check waiting period and banning bump stocks.

Governor Cuomo today signed legislation to allow state and local candidates to use campaign funds to pay for child care expenses, enabling more parents to run for public office.  Specifically, the bill amends state election law to allow campaign funds to be used to pay child care expenses that are “incurred in the campaign or in the execution of the duties of public office or party position.” The bill’s provisions are effective in 60 days.  In New York, about 33 percent of the state’s executive and legislative officials are women, compared with a national average of 29 percent of state executive and legislative officials, according to the Center for American Women and Politics.

The Susquehanna SPCA announced that they will break ground on their new animal shelter on Saturday August 24th.  The New Shelter will be about 1 mile north of the current facility on State route 28 near Cooperstown.

State Police conducted an Underage Drinking Initiative in Otsego and Chenango counties last week.  13 retail stores were checked and all of the stores were found to be in compliance and did not sell alcohol to the underage operative.  Among the compliant stores were: Mirabito Quickway in Sidney & Franklin,   Snake Bite Liquors of Afton& B & W Wines & Liquors in Bainbridge.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 58-year-old Karl Heidenreich of Franklin for Criminal Impersonation; following a civilian report that Heidenreich falsely pretended that he was a Police Officer.  Heidenreich was released on an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear at Franklin Town Court at a later date.

Stanton was driving at a high speed when his Chevy Equinox went off the road, striking the side of a stone barn, he was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators said that alcohol was a factor in the crash.

Norwich Police arrested 28 year old Devan Ellsworth of Norwich for Assault & endangering the welfare of a child after a child was seriously injured over the weekend. Ellsworth was charged following an incident on Henry Street in the City of Norwich; the child was not breathing & had suffered a head injury & was taken to Chenango Memorial Hospital & was transferred to Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse, where the child died. Ellsworth was arraigned & was remanded to the Chenango County Jail without bail; more charges may be forthcoming pending the results of the autopsy.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 20 year old Thomas Phillips of Fleischmann’s New York on 1 count of criminal mischief following a report of a vandalized vehicle at the Delaware County Fair. A 16 year old youth was also charged with criminal mischief in connection with the same reported vandalism of a vehicle in the parking lot at the Delaware County Fair.  Both Phillips and the 16 year old youth were later released on appearance tickets and are scheduled to appear at Walton Village Court at a later date to answer the charges.

Governor Cuomo today announced the launch of “No Students Goes Hungry” program, by expanding access to free breakfast for students in poverty, increases access to farm-fresh foods. The State is providing $7 million in funding to support equipment for high-poverty schools to purchase equipment such as refrigeration, coolers, vending machines, and breakfast kiosks.

State Police arrested 30 year old Maggie Davis of New Berlin for Driving While Intoxicated, several traffic tickets, including one for Refusal to Submit to Breath Test. Troopers on patrol observed the vehicle Davis was operating cross over the solid center line on multiple occasions while on State Route 32 in Norwich, a traffic stop was initiated and Davis refused to provide identification or to perform field sobriety tests. She was arrested and while being processed, refused to give her fingerprints. Davis was arraigned in the town of North Norwich Court where she was remanded to the Chenango County Jail on $2,000 cash bail.

State Police arrested 66 year old John Johnson of Newport for Driving While Intoxicated, after a trooper monitoring traffic on Interstate 88 in the town of Sidney observed Johnson’s vehicle unable to maintain its lane. A traffic stop was initiated and Johnson was arrested & was arraigned in the village of Sidney Court where he was remanded to the Delaware County Jail on $500 cash bail.

State Police arrested 26 year old Brooke Ketchum of Unadilla for Endangering the Welfare of a Child and Harassment, after Troopers were dispatched to a domestic dispute in Unadilla Saturday. Ketchum allegedly punched the victim in the mouth while in the presence of a child, Ketchum was arrested and arraigned in the town of Unadilla Court, she was released on her own recognizance & will reappear in court on October 15th, an order or protection was provided to the victim.

Oneonta Police are reminding City residents to lock up their vehicles, after reports of items removed from them and a number of locked vehicles have had attempted entries made. Oneonta Police suggest locking all windows & doors, keep valuables hidden from sight and be sure to secure any easily moved home and lawn decorative items when you are not home. Jordan Patch of Animal Adventure announced today that he has withdrawn a request for a small business municipal fund for $30,000 from Broome County. Patch said in a letter released today that he appreciated the efforts of Broome County Executive Jason Garner with the funding program, but said that an email from an un-named Broome County Legislator accusing Patch & Animal Adventure of criminal activity was inappropriate, and that his business was being used as a chip in a political game. Patch said that he will address his concerns with the lawmaker in question, the entire Broome County Legislature & the public at a later date.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 32 year old Bradley Wallace of Delhi for 3rd degree assault, Criminal Obstruction of Breathing or Blood Circulation, and unlawful imprisonment, following an investigation of a domestic dispute in the Town of Delhi. Wallace was arraigned in Town of Delhi Court and remanded to the Delaware County Jail in lieu of $500 cash bail or $1000 secured bond.

State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli released the results of an audit of the village of Deposit today. The Audit found that the Board did not ensure all disbursements were approved before payment and listed on an approved abstract & did not ensure all disbursements were supported and for proper purposes. The audit found that the board began to enforce the collection of delinquent real property taxes in March 2016, but $172,900 remains outstanding. DiNapoli’s report recommended that the board Review, audit and approve all disbursements before payment, unless otherwise allowed by law, Ensure disbursements are adequately supported and for proper purposes & that they should audit the Clerk-Treasurer’s records and report at least once a year.

Delaware County Sheriff Deputies arrested 34 year old Otto Mullen of Cobleskill for Unlawful Possession of Marihuana, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation and other traffic infractions, after a traffic stop where Mullen was observed traveling at a high rate of speed on State Highway 10 in the Town of Hamden. Mullen is accused of operating a motor vehicle while his driving privileges were suspended & possessing marihuana. Mullen was processed and released with appearance tickets to appear in the Town of Hamden Court at a later date.
