The Broome County Sheriff’s Office announced that Chenango Valley Teacher Matthew Stanton was the person killed in a crash into a stone barn on route 369 in the town Of Fenton Sunday morning. Stanton was driving at a high speed when his Chevy Equinox went off the road, striking the side of a stone barn, he was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators said that alcohol was a factor in the crash.

Norwich Police arrested 28 year old Devan Ellsworth of Norwich for Assault & endangering the welfare of a child after a child was seriously injured over the weekend. Ellsworth was charged following an incident on Henry Street in the City of Norwich; the child was not breathing & had suffered a head injury & was taken to Chenango Memorial Hospital & was transferred to Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse, where the child died. Ellsworth was arraigned & was remanded to the Chenango County Jail without bail; more charges may be forthcoming pending the results of the autopsy.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 20 year old Thomas Phillips of Fleischmann’s New York on 1 count of criminal mischief following a report of a vandalized vehicle at the Delaware County Fair. A 16 year old youth was also charged with criminal mischief in connection with the same reported vandalism of a vehicle in the parking lot at the Delaware County Fair.  Both Phillips and the 16 year old youth were later released on appearance tickets and are scheduled to appear at Walton Village Court at a later date to answer the charges.

Governor Cuomo today announced the launch of “No Students Goes Hungry” program, by expanding access to free breakfast for students in poverty, increases access to farm-fresh foods. The State is providing $7 million in funding to support equipment for high-poverty schools to purchase equipment such as refrigeration, coolers, vending machines, and breakfast kiosks.

State Police arrested 30 year old Maggie Davis of New Berlin for Driving While Intoxicated, several traffic tickets, including one for Refusal to Submit to Breath Test. Troopers on patrol observed the vehicle Davis was operating cross over the solid center line on multiple occasions while on State Route 32 in Norwich, a traffic stop was initiated and Davis refused to provide identification or to perform field sobriety tests. She was arrested and while being processed, refused to give her fingerprints. Davis was arraigned in the town of North Norwich Court where she was remanded to the Chenango County Jail on $2,000 cash bail.

State Police arrested 66 year old John Johnson of Newport for Driving While Intoxicated, after a trooper monitoring traffic on Interstate 88 in the town of Sidney observed Johnson’s vehicle unable to maintain its lane. A traffic stop was initiated and Johnson was arrested & was arraigned in the village of Sidney Court where he was remanded to the Delaware County Jail on $500 cash bail.

State Police arrested 26 year old Brooke Ketchum of Unadilla for Endangering the Welfare of a Child and Harassment, after Troopers were dispatched to a domestic dispute in Unadilla Saturday. Ketchum allegedly punched the victim in the mouth while in the presence of a child, Ketchum was arrested and arraigned in the town of Unadilla Court, she was released on her own recognizance & will reappear in court on October 15th, an order or protection was provided to the victim.
