The Tioga County District Attorney’s Office has indicted 37 year old Lawrence Faucett of Ulster Pennsylvania, for failing to move over & crashing into a New York State DOT vehicle, which led to the death of DOT employee Dennis Howe.  Faucett pleaded not guilty to criminally negligent homicide for the March 13th crash.

State Police responded to a tractor-trailer rollover accident on I-88 westbound in the town of Colesville, at about 9:15 this morning.  Troopers reported that the operator changed lanes and lost control of the vehicle; it eventually went into the median, overturned & went off the north shoulder.  The unidentified driver was ticketed for moving from a lane unsafely.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 30-Year-Old Kyle Alverson of Delhi for Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated with a Blood Alcohol Content of .18% or more, DWI, Leaving the Scene of a Property Damage Motor Vehicle Accident, Moving from Lane Unsafely, Inadequate Stop Lamps, and Failure to Notify DMV of an Address Change. The arrest was a result of an investigation of property damage automobile accident on County Highway 14.  Alverson was arraigned in the Town of Delhi Court and was remanded to the Delaware County Jail on $1,000 Cash Bail.

The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested 2 Cortland residents for burglaries committed in Chenango County.  Michael and Matthew Maricle are accused of committing multiple burglaries in the Towns of Pharsalia and Plymouth; they are accused of forcing their way into homes and stealing various items, including firearms.  Detectives recovered DNA at the scene; the Maricle brothers were arraigned in the Town of Oxford Court and are scheduled to return to court at a later date, more arrests are expected.

Governor Cuomo today announced that Taste NY sales increased to a record $17.8 million in 2018. Since its creation in 2013, the Taste NY initiative has seen steady growth from $1.5 million in in sales in 2014 to $17.8 million last year.

State Police arrested 59 year old Edward Skillen of Milford for felony Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs, after a trooper observed Skillen speeding in a school zone in the Milford School zone and initiated a traffic stop.  Skillen was processed and released on appearance tickets returnable to the town of Milford Court later today.

State Police arrested Mallory Bufalini of Sherburne for DWI after Troopers checked on a disabled vehicle on State Highway 12 in the town of Sherburne.   After an investigation, Police accused Bufalini of driving her vehicle while impaired; she was released on appearance tickets to the town of Sherburne Court on April 25th.

State Police arrested 21 year old Dylon Wall of Davenport for the Criminal Mischief, False Personation and Unlawful Possession of Marihuana, after a trooper was dispatched to the Walmart in Oneonta after a complainant reported that Wall smashed her front windshield. After an investigation, Wall is accused of intentionally damaging her property, he was located at his residence, he was also found to have marijuana in his possession & he allegedly gave troopers a false name. Wall was arraigned in the town of Oneonta Court and is scheduled to reappear in court on September 20th; he was turned to State Police in Norwich from open warrants in Chenango County.

State Troopers arrested 4 people after a vehicle was stopped for traffic violations on County Route 41 in Afton. After an investigation, the driver, 25 year old Priyank Raj of New Haven, CT was arrested for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Unlawful Possession of Marihuana and several traffic violations. 3 passengers, 31 year old Michael Bueno of Cliffside Park, New Jersey 26 year old Watchaiapon Chiamsatchamongkho, of Massachusetts & 19 year old Jahennye Fortado of New York City were all arrested for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance and Unlawful Possession of Marijuana, for allegedly possessing marijuana and MDMA. All 4 were arraigned in the town of Afton Court and remanded to the Chenango County Jail on $2,500 cash or $7,000 bond, pending court action on August 27th, in the town of Afton Court.

State Police arrested 35 year old Walter Lewis of Sanford for DWI, Criminal Mischief, Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation and Harassment, after Troopers were dispatched to a domestic dispute in Sanford. Lewis is accused of aggressively grabbing a victim and causing bruising, while the victim was holding a child. The victim also told troopers he broke a tablet & took off in a vehicle. Troopers located Lewis on Sherman Creek Road, he was arraigned at the Broome County Central Arraignment where he was remanded to the Broome County Jail on bail.

State Police conducted a traffic stop on I-88 in the town of Milford for a traffic violation. An investigation by Troopers and CNET resulted in the seizure of approximately 4 pounds of marihuana and approximately $3,500 cash. Troopers arrested Javice Lawrence, Ronnie Smith and Toshaun Guthrie of Albany for Criminal Possession of Marihuana, they were arraigned in the Town of Hartwick Court and remanded to the Otsego County Jail.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies, arrested 46 year old James Henderson of Walton, for Reckless Driving, Failure to keep right, moving unsafely from lane, and parking on pavement. Henderson is alleged to have not stopped his vehicle during Walton Police Department’s attempt to execute a traffic stop, after driving erratically, nearly colliding with 3 vehicles. Henderson was arraigned and was remanded to the Delaware County Jail on $10,000 cash bail or $20,000 bond,.

Utica Democratic Assemblyman Anthony Brindisi already announced his intentions to run for the 22nd congressional district in November 2018, at a press conference in Utica this morning. Brindisi seeks to unseat Republican Claudia Tenney, who is only 6 months into her first term in Congress. The 22nd congressional district covers part of Chenango & Broome Counties locally. Brindisi will reschedule a press conference for Binghamton that was postponed today due to the extraordinary session of the Assembly called by Governor Cuomo for today in Albany.

Lawmakers were called back to Albany today for an Extraordinary session to deal with some left over legislation that was not dealt with before the end of the 2017 session last Wednesday. Local Assemblyman Cliff Crouch said that some of the bills really should be dealt with by the local municipalities, and not the state legislature:

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies & local EMT’s responded to a 1 car roll-over accident with entrapment, at approximately 2:00 PM Tuesday on State Highway 28 in the Town of Middletown. 78 year old Doris Hubar of Margaretville was extricated from the overturned vehicle & was transported to Margaretville Memorial Hospital and was transferred to Albany Medical Center for further treatment. Hubar may have experienced a medical emergency while driving, causing her to lose control & flip her vehicle after striking a tree. No tickets have been issued, the investigation is continuing.

Idelson announced that some of the activities for the 75th anniversary next year include the 6th annual Hall of Fame Classic on May 23rd through the 25th, the 75th Anniversary Birthday Celebration on June 12th through the 14th, the Hall of Fame Weekend will be on July 25th through the 28th, and a Concert on August 2nd at the Clark Sports Center, featuring a the Boston Pops and former big leaguer Bernie Williams, with more names to be announced early next year.

Chenango county sheriff Ernest Cutting responded to a civilian complaint of a vehicle on the side of the road with the driver slumped over the wheel and the headlights on.  28-year-old Brandon Cornell of Bainbridge was charged with DWI and Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs. He was issued appearance tickets for the Town of Afton Court and will appear at a later date.

The Cancer Services Program of Delaware, Otsego and Schoharie counties will offer free health screenings in Sidney next month to women 40 and older that are uninsured. New York will not re-open health-insurance policies under the federal health-care program as the state already meets most of the new requirements. President Obama announced last week that health exchanges would give insurers an opportunity to renew current policies for one year under the Affordable Care Act after numerous glitches on the federal website. New York hasn’t had problems with enrollment, called NY State of Health.

State agencies spent more than $462 million on overtime in the first nine months of 2013, a jump of $65 million over for the same period in 2012, according to state comptroller Tom DiNapoli. The amount of overtime rose $65.3 million or 16. percent. DiNapoli urged state agencies to improve their personnel management, reduce overtime costs and carefully monitor its use.

The Oneonta Common Council approved a 2014 budget by a vote of 5 to 2. The $15.3 million dollar general fund budget for 2014 carries buy cipro 250 a tax levy increase of 1.57 percent. The council will hold a public hearing on the plan Monday at City Hall at 7 p.m. and will vote on adopting the budget December 3rd.

State Senator Jim Seward announced introduction of legislation he is sponsoring that will extend the emergency medical technician five-year recertification demonstration program. Senator Seward’s bill provides active volunteer emergency medical technicians EMT’s in certain counties with additional time to meet recertification requirements.

Seward said that if the bill is approved, it would extend the demonstration program until July 1st  2018. The program is limited to EMT’s who practice in the following counties: Delaware, Otsego, Schoharie an 5 other counties around the state.

Governor Cuomo today announced a complete review of the State’s electric regulations and policies to support the expansion of New York’s market for electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles. The review and the removal of regulatory barriers supports the Governor’s Charge NY initiative to create a statewide network of up to 3,000 public and workplace charging stations over the next five years and to put up to 40,000 plug-in vehicles on the road by 2018 and one million in 2025.

Molly Youngs of Sidney was knocked out of the Scripps national spelling bee this morning in Washington DC.  Molly went out in Round 2 on ‘apparatchik’, she will remain in Washington for the remainder of the competition as a spectator.

The Cornell Cooperative Extension’s 29th Annual Food & Fitness Conference will be held at the Foxcare Center Conference Room in Oneonta on Monday, June 17th from 2:00 to 4:30 pm.
