The State’s private sector job count climbed by 24,200, to over 7.8 Million according to preliminary figures released by the State Department of Labor. Over the past 2 months, the State has added 67,800 private sector jobs. In June the State’s unemployment rate decreased from 5.7% to 5.5%.

A Town of Sherburne resident was arrested by the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office for Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle, Reckless Endangerment, Unlawful Manufacture & disposal of Methamphetamine, Tampering with Physical Evidence, plus other drug related charges. 26-year-old John Quinn was charged following a failure to comply pursuit, where he is accused of fleeing police & throwing several items from the vehicle, which were later recovered. Quinn was arraigned in the Town of Sherburne Court and was held on $50,000 cash bail pending action in the Town of Sherburne Court at a later date.

Governor Cuomo has more than $12.6 million in his campaign account; according to campaign finance filings released Wednesday. Cuomo raised $5 million in contributions and made another $195,000 from interest and contributions from the state Democratic Party. Cuomo has not commented on future campaigns on the state or federal level.

Delaware County Deputies conducted a traffic stop on State Hwy 10 in the Town of Delhi, 30 year old John Perez of Grayson, Louisiana charged with DWI, speed unreasonable and prudent, inadequate exhaust, no turn signal and a fractured windshield. Perez will reappear in the Town of Delhi Court at a later date.

The Sidney Village Police Department reminds village residents to lock vehicles & not leave valuables in the vehicle. There have been a string of larcenies from vehicles that were left unlocked. Anyone with information is asked to contact the village police art 561-2301.

The village of Bainbridge is experiencing water issues, where village residents may have outages or low water pressure. The Department of Public Works is working to repair the situation and is looking to complete those repairs as quickly as possible.

A jury was seated in a federal courtroom in White Plains Monday in the trial of State Senator Tom Libous of Binghamton. Libous is accused of lying to the FBI about using his political influence in getting his son Matthew at a Westchester law firm. Matthew Libous faces prison time for tax evasion. Tom Libous still holds a seat in the New York State Senate.

Federal officials have scheduled hearings on the 2nd natural gas pipeline proposal through the Southern Tier. The sessions hosted by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission will begin at 7:00 PM Thursday at the Foothills Performing Arts Center in Oneonta, & at the Days Inn in Schoharie. Kinder Morgan proposes constructing a pipeline along the same corridor as the recently approved Constitution Pipeline, to move gas from Pennsylvania into New England. The Kinder Morgan Pipeline still needs approval from FERC.

The Chenango county health department has scheduled a free rabies clinic tonight in Coventry. The clinic will be held from 5:30 to 6:30 at the Coventry Highway department, for dogs, cats & domesticated Ferrets.

State Police at Oneonta arrested 46 year old Nicholas Mihalik of Davenport for 3rd degree Assault. The arrest resulted from a complaint at a residence in the Town of Kortright, Mihalik was arraigned and remanded to the Delaware County Jail on bail.

Delaware County Public Health will hold a Free Rabies Vaccination Clinic For dogs, cats, and ferrets today. The clinic will run from 5:00 to 6:30 PM in the Colchester Highway Garage in Downsville.

Governor Cuomo today announced advance ticket sales for the 2015 Great New York State Fair will begin Today at 9 a.m. with expanded online savings for advance admission, midway and bargain book items. For the first time, online purchases will be available throughout all 12 days of the Fair and fairgoers will be able to use an electronic ticket on their smartphone for easy entry. Tickets will be available online and in hundreds of stores across New York. 5 products will be sold online at www.etix.com, the State Fair runs from August 27th to September 7th this year.

Governor Cuomo today announced the launch of an online training course for law enforcement officials to improve the initial response to child abuse allegations. The training is aimed to help officers better identity, understand and investigate child abuse causes to enhance prosecution and reduce trauma to victims. 32-year-old Mitchell McComas of Harpursville is facing several charges, following an incident at Otsiningo Park in the town of Dickinson. McComas was charged with reckless endangerment, unlawful fleeing a police officer, and reckless driving, deputies reported that an officer attempted to stop McComas in a mini-van, when he failed to stop at a stop sign while exiting the Park. Police gave chase through residential streets; McComas’s vehicle struck one vehicle during the pursuit. He fled on foot after the vehicle got stuck op railroad tracks at state Route 7. McComas was apprehended & is being held in the Broome County Jail.

An Afton man is accused of brandishing a knife while stealing an expensive dog in the Town of Dickinson Wednesday. The Broome County Sheriff’s Office responded to an incident on Sunset Drive in the Town of Dickinson, where 65-year-old Edward Panus allegedly pulled a knife on a dog breeder, and ran off with a Bulldog. Panus was spotted at the Broome County Airport, he was taken into custody before he could board a plane to Alaska and flee the state. The dog has not been recovered, & may be in the Afton or Harpursville area, anyone with information is asked to contact the sheriff’s department at 778-1196.
