At the meeting Tuesday night in Bainbridge, the General Clinton Canoe Regatta Committee approved of a big change in the schedule of the annual event, Chairman John Harmon explains:

Harmon said that the idea to shorten the Regatta had come up several times in the past, but it was never able to come to fruition until this year. This Year’s General Clinton Canoe regatta will be May 27th to the 29th.

The Oneonta Common Council unanimously approved a motion Tuesday, to submit an application for a SAFER grant to help with additional staffing for the Oneonta fire department, Oneonta Mayor Mark Drnek comments:

Mayor Drnek said that if the grant is approved, the money would be used to hire up to 8 full-time firefighters, then the city would hold a civil service exam on March 19 for prospective firefighters, the application deadline is February 16.

Republicans in both the state Senate & State Assembly are looking to repeal or dramatically change the Bail Reform legislation that passed during the Cuomo Administration 2 years ago. Tuesday’s COVID 19 testing numbers continue to show a decrease in the percentage of positive cases, according to the Governor’s office & The State Health Department. Over 177,000 New Yorkers were tested, with over 9300 positive cases, for a positivity rate of 5.25%. Patient Hospitalizations dropped sharply to 6628, ICU Patient numbers declined by 46 to 1094, Patients on ventilators decreased by 26 to 641, 136 deaths were reported in Hospitals & Nursing homes Tuesday.

Otsego County Health Department reported 46 new COVID 19 cases Tuesday, with 4 hospitalized and 1 new death reported. The County’s 7 day positivity rate was just under 12%, there have been 9 deaths already this year & 104 since pandemic hit in Otsego County 2 years ago.

State Lawmakers released their proposed redistricting maps this week, the state will lose one seat in the House of Representatives based on population shifts in the 2020 census. Redistricting wound up back in the hands of the legislature, after the Independent Redistricting Commission failed to come up with a plan, which they were required to do based on the 2014 public referendum that took redistricting away from lawmakers. 22nd District Congresswoman Claudia Tenney announced that she will seek to win the new 23rd District.

The New York State Department of State and the Division of Consumer Protection today alerted consumers about real estate and rental scams, in which scammers work to steal prospective tenants’ money when they are looking to rent a home or an apartment. New Yorkers claimed losses of over $1.7 million during the last 3 years from scammers, if a consumer has fallen victim to a rental scam, they are encouraged to file a complaint with the Division of Consumer Protection. Governor Kathy Hochul announced 25 new #VaxtoSchool pop-up vaccination sites to increase vaccination rates among school-aged New Yorkers. In the Southern Tier, 2 sites will be opening Friday, at the Chenango Valley High School from 2:40 pm to 5:00 pm & at the Broome-Tioga BOCES Main Campus in Binghamton from 10:00 am to 12:00 Noon. State Police issued 17,797 tickets and arrested 207 people for impaired driving during the special traffic enforcement detail over Columbus Day weekend. The initiative began on Thursday, October 7th and continued through Tuesday, October 12th. Statewide, law enforcement issued a total of 38,255 tickets, including 828 for impaired driving and 10,593 for speeding.

The Village of Sidney is beginning to gather the community’s ideas for reusing publicly owned land near the Susquehanna River. Nasir Azmat of Franklin accepted a plea deal Friday in the Town of Sidney court, he pleaded guilty to overdriving, torturing, and injuring animals. Azmat was sentenced to 60 days in jail followed by 3 years of probation; he cannot own, possess or register animals during the 3 year probation. Azmat will also be placed on the Delaware County Animal Abuse Registry. Azmat was charged in February 2020 after Delaware County Sheriff’s Office found 20 dogs in deplorable conditions on Azmat’s property, the dog were allegedly used for dog-fighting.

Delaware County Public Health reported 1 more COVID death, 39 new positive cases, 11 hospitalized & 311 Quarantined, for Thursday & Friday of last week. The County positivity rate remains at 8.46%. Delaware County has had 60 deaths since the start of the pandemic. The county has had 51% of residents fully vaccinated.

The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Transit Administration today announced a $3.25 million grant award to the Broome County Department of Transportation to purchase new electric buses. The grant is one of 49 projects to receive funding through the Low- or No- Emission Grant program, which funds the deployment of zero-emission and low-emission transit buses and supporting facilities.

NY State of Health and the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets announced that Certified Enrollment Assistors will be on site at select farmers’ markets statewide to educate New Yorkers about new and enhanced federal financial assistance that is now available to current enrollees and new enrollees. Delaware County Public Health reported 2 more COVID 19 related deaths in their weekly report Thursday, bringing their total to 51. Delaware County had 6 new positive cases with 8 active cases, 2 hospitalized & 14 quarantined, and they reported a total of 2425 cases since the pandemic began last year.

Otsego County Health Department reported that they had 61.3% of county residents 18+ have received at least 1 dose of the COVID vaccine and 50% have completed the vaccine series. Otsego County had reported over 700 new cases in January & March of this year, in June they have had 16 new cases, they have 2 active cases, no one is hospitalized & there have been 2468 total cases in 2021.

State Police arrested 29 year old Anthony Masi of Sidney, for Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation, Unlawfully Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle, Resisting Arrest, Possession of a Forged Instrument, and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance. Troopers attempted to initiate a traffic stop on a vehicle on James F. Lettis Highway, Masi failed to comply. Masi was spotted by troopers operating at a high rate of speed in the village of Unadilla. Masi’s vehicle lost a front tire and his vehicle became disabled on Willow Street in the village of Sidney. Masi refused to comply with trooper’s commands and resisted arrest. He was ultimately taken into custody with the assistance of a New York State Police K9. Masi was transported to AO Fox Memorial Hospital. Masi was issued appearance tickets to the town of Oneonta court on April 6th, he was issued an appearance ticket for the misdemeanor of Resisting Arrest to the village of Sidney court on April 22nd. After processing, Masi was released to a sober third party.

State Police were searching for a 28-year-old Dylan Shoemaker, who has autism; Several Police agencies searched overnight for Shoemaker, Dylan Shoemaker has been located. He is in good health. The New York State Police thanks all the agencies and volunteers that assisted in the search and everyone that shared the message.

State Police arrested 34 year old Jason Manderville of Oneonta for Menacing & Petty Larceny, after Troopers were dispatched to a domestic dispute on Oneida Street in the town of Oneonta. Manderville allegedly threatened a victim with a chainsaw, he was located in a wooded area behind his residence and arrested, & he was processed and virtually arraigned & was released on his own recognizance and order to appear in the town on Oneonta court on April 6, 2021. The victim was issued a stay away order of protection. Later on the same day State Police arrested Manderville for Arson and Criminal Contempt, after Troopers, Oneonta Fire Department and Oneonta EMS were dispatched to a house fire where troopers arrested Manderville a few hours earlier. Troopers located Manderville in a wooded area near State Highway 205 and he was taken into custody. Manderville was arraigned on the new charges & was remanded to the Otsego County Jail on $10,000 cash bail or $20,000 bond.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Schenevus man following a motor vehicle accident in the Town of Davenport early Thursday morning. Deputies responded to County Highway 12, they located the driver, 54 year-old Dennis Thompson of Schenevus, who was walking away from the accident scene. Investigation revealed that Thompson was intoxicated at the time of the accident and lost control of his vehicle and struck a tree. Thompson was subsequently arrested and charged with the misdemeanor offenses of aggravated driving while intoxicated with BAC of .18% or more and common-law driving while intoxicated, as well as the offenses of moving from lane unsafely and speed not reasonable and prudent. Thompson was issued traffic summonses and was released pending his appearance and arraignment in the Town of Davenport Court on a later date.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Office announced that a vehicle and traffic violation on State Highway 17 in the Town of Deposit on Wednesday morning resulted in the arrest of Pennsylvania man. Deputies observed a vehicle being operated with an inoperable tail light. Deputies stopped the vehicle and identified the driver as 25-year-old Nicholas Dunlap of Starlight, Pennsylvania. A routine driver’s license inquiry revealed that Dunlap’s New York State driving privileges were suspended in 2019 for an insurance lapse. Dunlap was charged with aggravated unlicensed operation, and insufficient tail lamps. Dunlap’s vehicle was towed from the highway and he was released after being directed to appear in the Town of Deposit Court on a later date to answer the charges.

Governor Cuomo, & state leaders announced an agreement on legislation to legalize adult-use cannabis. The bill would establish the Office of Cannabis Management to implement a regulatory framework that would cover medical, adult-use and cannabinoid hemp. The bill would also expand New York State’s existing medical marijuana and cannabinoid hemp programs. The legislation provides licensing for marijuana producers, distributors, retailers, and other actors in the cannabis market, The legislation has the potential to create Tax collections of $350 million annually, & itr is expected to create 30,000 to 60,000 new jobs.

35 year old Kenneth Fink of New Berlin man was arrested Friday on an active Arrest Warrant issued by the Chenango County Court following a Sealed indictment. The Chenango County District Attorney’s Office presented an Arson case to the Chenango County Grand Jury, Fink was indicted for 3rd degree Arson, Fink was arraigned in the Chenango County Court and released until a later Court date. It is alleged that On March 1, 2020, Kenneth R. Fink set fire to his residence located at 4322 State Highway 80 in the Town of Columbus.

Sidney Police Department responded to a larceny complaint last Monday at a local business. 2 people who were caught on security video committing the crime, Sidney Police Department arrested 30 year old Terence Barrows of Solvay & 46 year old Kimberly Barrows of Illinois, on a variety of charges, Terence Barrows was released on an appearance ticket to appear in Village of Sidney Court at a later date. Kimberly Barrows was arraigned in Village of Sidney Court and remanded to the Delaware County jail to await extradition to Illinois.

State Police, the Bureau of Criminal Investigation and Computer Unit arrested 43 year old Charles Rowe of Norwich, for Promoting a Sexual Performance by a Child and Possessing a Sexual Performance by a Child. He was arrested following the execution of a search warrant at his residence. Rowe was arraigned virtually and remanded to the Chenango County Jail.

State Police arrested 62 year old Delos Decker of Bainbridge for Criminal Possession of a Weapon, Reckless Endangerment & Criminal Mischief, Decker was involved in a road rage incident on March 19th, He’s accused of shooting at a vehicle, causing damage to the other vehicle’s rear window to shatter then leaving the scene. A tip led investigators to Decker. After an investigation, Decker was arrested by members of the Bureau of Criminal Investigation. Decker was arraigned virtually and remanded to the Chenango County Jail on $10,000 cash bail or $15,000 bond.

Secretary to the Governor Melissa DeRosa is under fire, for saying to some state lawmakers in a ZOOM meeting that the administration “Froze Up” after being asked last summer for information by the US Department of Justice, regarding the death toll in the state’s nursing homes from COVID 19. Local State Assemblyman Joe Angelino is the Ranking Republican on the Assembly Oversight, Analysis and Investigation Committee, he told WCDO news of his reaction:

The State Health Department has released updated statistics in the last week that greatly increased the number of deaths of Nursing home residents to over 12,700, by including those who died from COVID while in a hospital.  This Afternoon, DeRosa clarified her statements by stating that Governor’s Office had asked State Lawmakers to wait for the administration’s response on Nursing Home deaths, so the administration could first resolve the Federal inquiry, she said that they were fully transparent with the Federal & then state inquiries in that order.  Some Lawmakers are calling for limiting the Governor’s emergency powers & for the resignations of DeRosa; many have also been calling for the resignation of State Health Commissioner Dr. Howard Zucker.

2010 Unatego graduate Aaron “Frosty” Foster, who grew up in Wells Bridge, passed away unexpectedly Thursday in Tennessee.  Foster was a bluegrass musician, who currently had the #6 song on the Bluegrass charts, with Troy Boone, entitled “Country Fool”. Major League Baseball announced today that all 120 Minor League Clubs offered an invitation to become Professional Development League (“PDL”) license holders, have officially agreed to accept. The Binghamton Rumble Ponies, selected as partners by the New York Mets, will provide both facilities and communities that are essential to the development of the next generation of big-league stars.  The Rumble Ponies will compete in a brand new League for the 2021 season and beyond. They will take part in the New Double-A Northeast League, and will be seeded in the Northeast division.

State Police arrested 33 year old Carlos Smith of Utica, for torturing, injuring & failing to feed 6 dogs left at his former residence in the town of Davenport in December.  Smith was officially charged with 6 counts of failing to provide proper sustenance to animals; a warrant was issued for his arrest, which occurred late Thursday afternoon.

State Police located 15 year old Trevor Mallory in the City in Binghamton in good health; he was turned over to the custody of a family member.  Mallory was reported missing on February 2nd, where he was last seen leaving the town of Colesville in a vehicle.  State Police stated that tips from the public & and the sharing of Mallory’s picture on social media led to his reappearance.

State Police updated their information regarding Thursday’s crash of a garbage truck on State Route 17 in the town of Windsor.  The unidentified 64 year old driver from the Bronx was traveling at an unsafe speed, and made an unsafe lane change, he went through the guiderail and into the median, struck an earth embankment, the truck continued & the tractor became detached & overturned and came to rest in the median between the over passes for State Line Road.  The driver was taken to Wilson Hospital in Johnson City, the truck is registered to Lae Transport Corp in Newark, New Jersey, the investigation is continuing.

State Police arrested 25 year old Taylor Nelson of Afton for 2 counts of Criminal LOUDESPossession of a Controlled Substance, Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument, Operating a Motor Vehicle while Impaired by Drugs, & Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia. Troopers were dispatched to the Sunoco on County Route 39 in the town of Bainbridge to check the welfare of a male slumped behind the wheel of his vehicle. Troopers determined that Nelson was impaired and was in possession of a counterfeit $100 bill, methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia and items used to measure drug quantity. Nelson was arraigned in the town of Bainbridge Court where he was remanded to the Chenango County Jail on no bail.

State Police arrested 51 year old Marianne Stanislawski of Chenango for Grand Larceny, for allegedly taking advantage of a 75-year-old man who suffers from Alzheimer’s. An investigation revealed that Stanislawski knew the victim for several years; she would visit him weekly at his residence and help him run errands. The investigation further revealed that Stanislawski was making cash withdrawals that the victim did not approve of. Stanislawski was arrested and arraigned in the town of Oxford Court and released on her own recognizance and is to appear in court at a later date. An order of protection was issued by the judge protecting the victim.

Governor Cuomo today announced the state is dedicating $3 million for state-of-the-art studies to reduce flooding and ice jams and improve ecology on 48 priority flood-prone streams throughout New York State. Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 31 year old Jessie Bolster and 40 year old Roy Bolster of Harpursville after they were stopped in Hancock for Traffic infractions. Jessie Bolster was operating the motor vehicle while having several active suspensions; Roy Bolster was wanted on an active arrest warrant from Tompkins County Family Court. A search of the vehicle revealed the pair were in possession of Oxycodone & bags of crystal methamphetamine. Both were charged with 4 counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Jessie Bolster was additionally charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation. Both were arraigned & were remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility in lieu of $10,000 cash/$20,000 secured bond.

The Otsego County Sheriff’s Department responded Friday to the report of a bear getting hit by a car on State Route 28 in the town of Milford. The unidentified Driver was not injured, the vehicle was towed from the scene and the bear was killed in the collision, which was reported at about 7:20 AM Friday Morning.

State Police executed a residential search warrant at a home in the town of Delancey; they arrested 20 year old David Dotey on 3 felony counts of Promoting Obscene Sexual Performance by a Child, Possessing Obscene Sexual Performance by a Child and Computer Trespass. Dotey is accused of uploading and distributing sexual performance by prepubescent children, he was arraigned and was remanded to the Delaware County Jail on $2,500 cash bail or $5,000 property bond. The case is still under investigation, additional charges are possible.

Governor Cuomo announced $13 million is available for restoration and recovery efforts following the severe storms and flash flooding on August 13-15 that severely impacted communities in the Southern Tier. A new residential assistance program has been created to provide funding to primary homeowners whose damages exceed insurance claims and other available aid. With maximum grants of $50,000, this program will help eliminate the unmet need of homeowners. Applications from homeowners for the residential assistance program will be accepted starting today, the deadline for applications are February 4, 2019.

A woman, who suffered cardiac arrest Friday, is expected to survive after the quick actions of State Troopers and a citizen. A trooper was dispatched to a report of a 70-year-old woman who had collapsed in the lobby of the Richfield Springs Post Office, She was unresponsive when the trooper arrived and a citizen was already performing CPR. Another trooper arrived & administered the Automated External Defibrillator, EMS arrived, and they took the woman to Basset Hospital in Cooperstown. The unidentified woman regained consciousness at the hospital and is expected to recover.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 18-year-old Devon Dority of Hamden for Menacing and Attempted Assault. Dority is accused of attempting to cause physical

State Police at Deposit arrested 28 year old Rio Myers of Damascus for Driving While Intoxicated, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, & Unlawful Possession of Marihuana. A trooper on patrol was on the lookout for a vehicle operating erratically, a description was provided. The trooper was able to observe the vehicle in the town of Hancock unable to maintain a lane. A traffic stop was initiated and Myers was arrested, he was also found to be in possession of THC wax. He was released on appearance tickets returnable to the town of Hancock Court on October 22.

State Police arrested 25 year old Eric Frank of Oxford for Assault & Criminal Possession of a Weapon, Menacing and Reckless Endangerment, Troopers were dispatched to a residence on County Road 32 in Oxford for a report of a dispute. A complainant told troopers that Frank pointed a shotgun at the complainant then fired it in the air. He’s also accused of punching the complainant in the face then with the stock of the gun. Frank allegedly then struck the mailbox with his vehicle. Frank was arraigned in the town of Oxford Court and remanded to the Chenango County Jail on $15,000 cash bail or $30,000 property bond.

State Police at Binghamton arrested 45 year old Bobby Galusha of Harpursville for Criminal Trespass and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance. Troopers responded to the report of a couple in Windsor finding an unidentified man in their home. Galusha was arrested, he is accused of possessing suboxone at the time of the arrest, he was released on appearance tickets to the town of Windsor Court on August 15th.

Governor Cuomo today announced that he will propose legislation to further decouple New York State’s tax code from the federal code if President Trump moves forward with a plan for a $100 billion capital gains tax cut for the rich. The Governor also called on Congress to immediately block any attempt by President Trump to unilaterally cut taxes for the nation’s wealthiest 1% in violation of the Constitution. Governor Cuomo and Attorney General Underwood also filed a lawsuit to protect New York and its taxpayers from Washington’s drastic curtailment of the state and local tax deduction, which argues that the new SALT cap was enacted to target New York and similarly situated states & that it interferes with states’ rights to make their own fiscal decisions.

The State Department of Health confirmed the presence of Eastern Equine Encephalitis Virus in mosquitoes in Onondaga and Oswego Counties. EEE is a rare, viral disease spread by mosquitoes that can affect people and horses, people over 50 and younger than 15 are at greatest risk for acquiring the virus. Most people bitten by an infected mosquito will not develop any symptoms, severe cases begin with the sudden onset of headache, high fever, chills and vomiting, approximately a third of patients who develop EEE die, while many patients who survive EEE experience neurologic impairment. There have been no human cases of EEE this year, there is no vaccine. Officials suggest keeping mosquitoes away, by eliminating standing water in yards& using Repellents that contain DEET, IR3535, or oil of lemon eucalyptus.

Delaware County Sheriff Deputies responded June 3rd to County Hwy 33 in the Town of Kortright for a report of a personal injury auto accident. The driver, 58 year old Dominick Forte of Harpersfield was transported by Life Net Helicopter to Albany Medical Center for treatment of his injuries. Deputies arrested Forte for Aggravated Unlicensed Operation, DWI, Aggravated DWI, Speed unreasonable and prudent, failure to keep right, no seat belt and unlicensed operator. The contract to keep the Veterans Affairs Clinic on State Route 7 in Bainbridge will expire at the end of the year, they see between 75 to 100 Veterans a day, and are scheduled to get a 2nd doctor to serve their, yet the facility may be moved to Oneonta. Students in the “Introduction to Grant Writing” class, partner with a local organization with the goal of developing and submitting a grant proposal on their behalf. The National Baseball Hall Of Fame announced that the 2018 Inductees Exhibit is open and will remain on display through May 2019. The exhibit is located on the first floor & features a display for Vladimir Guerrero, Trevor Hoffman, Chipper Jones, Jack Morris, Jim Thome and Alan Trammell. The exhibit is accompanied by a highlight video for each member of the Class of 2018. State DEC Commissioner Basil Seggos announced $4 million in grant funding for generators of excess wholesome food and food scraps to expand their capacity to donate it to organic recycling facilities. An estimated 40% of the food produced in the United States goes uneaten while about 2.5 million New Yorkers go hungry. Seggos said that much of the wasted food is disposed of in solid waste landfills where its decomposition accounts for more than 15% of emissions of methane, which is a potent greenhouse gas. Otsego County Sheriff’s department & Emergency crews responded Tuesday morning at about 9:10, to a 2 vehicle crash on State Route 166. Deputies reported that 67 year old George Murray of Cooperstown crossed into the opposing lane into a vehicle driven by 49 year old Susan Edmonds of Cherry Valley. Both were transported to Bassett Medical Center, Murray was ticketed for Failure to keep Right.

Chenango County Sheriff’s Office cleaned up “Tent City” which was located along the Chenango River behind the North Plaza on City of Norwich property. The Sheriff’s Office cleaned up between 50-60 used needles, 16 – 50 gallon sized garbage bags of garbage and other larger items that were left behind by the occupants. Clean up took several hours and involved the Norwich Fire Department, Oxford Fire Department and the City of Norwich DPW.

Governor Cuomo signed legislation to remove guns from domestic abusers and close a loophole in state law that will ensure domestic abusers are required to surrender all firearms, not just handguns. The Governor also announced he is advancing new legislation to extend the waiting period for individuals who are not immediately approved to purchase a firearm through the National Instant Criminal Background Check System from 3 days to 10 days.

State DOT Officials announced that work has resumed on the $3.2 million rehabilitation of the East Bosket Road Bridge over County Route 28 in Windsor and State Route 17 in Sanford. The project, scheduled for completion this fall, will replace the concrete bridge deck and install new steel railings along each side of the structure. The approaches to the bridge also will be repaved.

New York State Police and the Utica Police Department are investigating a threat at Utica College earlier today. Staff and students at Utica College received an alert at about 11:00 AM today, that the campus was on lockdown because of the threat, everyone was ordered to stay where they were while the threat was investigated. There is no confirmation of any shots fired on campus, and there are no injuries reported. Law enforcement continues to investigate threat. Local, state, and federal law enforcement are on scene.

State Police arrested 26-year-old Christopher Neumann of Castleton in connection with a collision that injured 2 troopers & 2 tow truck operators early Sunday on Interstate 90. Troopers Brent Karow and Shane Swartz were investigating an unrelated 1-car crash on I-90 in North Greenbush at approximately 5:15 a.m. Sunday, when Neumann’s vehicle struck their patrol car, which then hit both troopers and tow truck operator, Jeffrey Waite. Trooper Karow was thrown 70 feet into the median, while Trooper Swartz and Waite were thrown under the tow truck, all 3 were taken to Albany Medical Center, a 2nd Tow Truck employee was hit by flying debris & was treated at the scene. Neumann was charged with 1st degree vehicular assault, DWI and numerous other traffic violations, he was arraigned & was remanded to the Rensselaer County Jail.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 49-year-old Daniel Fisher of Franklin Sunday on charges of Criminal Contempt & Harassment, for allegedly violating an Order of Protection. The State University of New York has established a task force to focus on food security issues at its 64 campuses. The SUNY system reported that 70% of its campuses have a food pantry for students or partnerships with community organizations that provide meals. SUNY Chancellor Kristina Johnson said the goal is for all campuses to have food pantries or arrangements with community groups that provide resources for food.

NYSEG made progress following the significant winter storm on Thursday. The storm resulted in more than 188,000 outages, as of Sunday morning, 117,000 customers had power restored. State Police arrested 49 year old Harvey Scott of Oneonta for Petty Larceny, after Scott allegedly walked out of the Oneonta Walmart with a cart full of items totaling $676. Harvey was remanded to the Ostego County Jail on $1,000 cash bond or $2,000 bail.

New York State received only 84 cents back for every dollar that it sent in taxes to the federal government in 2016, according to State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli. New York received $55 billion in Social Security payments, $47 billion for Medicare and more than $46 billion for Medicaid plus Billions of federal dollars for transportation, education and veterans benefits programs. Gardner is accused of choking a woman while her while children were in the residence, he was charged with Criminal Obstruction of Breathing and Endangering the Welfare of a Child. 23-year-old Edward Ferrall of Lynbrook Long Island was arrested early Saturday morning by Oneonta police, for 1st degree assault, criminal possession of a weapon, tampering with physical evidence, menacing and resisting arrest. Oneonta Police responded to 236 Main Street at about 2:25 AM, Police found the victim of a Head Injury, who was taken to Fox Hospital, and was transferred to Albany Medical Center. Ferrall was arraigned in Oneonta City Court and released on $5,000 bail, the investigation is ongoing.

State Police arrested 56-year-old J.J. Yellen of Davenport, for 3rd degree Assault and Endangering the Welfare of a Child. This arrest occurred after troopers were advised of a physical dispute in the town of Dryden, where Yellen allegedly pushed and grabbed a child, causing an injury to his neck. Yellen was arraigned in the town of Dryden court, and was released without bail required. The court issued an order of protection against him; Yellen’s next court date is on August 22nd.

Lawmakers from both major parties were not pleased with President Trump’s statements to the Wall Street Journal this week. Trump was quoted as saying that Upstate New York residents should just leave, and head to states where there are not enough people for existing manufacturing jobs, like Wisconsin. Local Congresswoman Claudia Tenney, who normally supports Trump, released a statement, saying that she hoped Trump’s comments were taken out of context, that Upstate has a rich history of manufacturing, and policies must be implemented to revive the region. State Health Officials & the DEC are taking steps to make sure that everyone knows the risks regarding harmful algae blooms in ponds & lakes in state parks. The blue-green algae blooms poison the water with toxins, which can disrupt liver and nervous system function and cause skin irritation in people, pets and wildlife. Officials said that Dogs are especially susceptible because they often drink from ponds and lakes, they suggest that if your dog goes into a lake with algae, hose them off so they don’t try to bathe themselves and end up eating it.

DOT Officials in the Southern Tier are looking to add personnel quickly following the closing this week of State Route 17 in Tioga County, where flash flooding took out chunks of land supporting a bridge that carried the highway over a bridge in the Nichols area, officials are hoping to have the bridge repaired by the Labor Day weekend.

Charged were 24 year old Cecily Choi of New Jersey, 20 year old Adrian Beall of Texas & 37 year old Jason Rodriguez of Brooklyn. All 3 subjects are accused of possessing numerous narcotics & marihuana, they were charged with 3 counts each of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Criminal use of Drug paraphernalia, Rodriguez was also charged with the misdemeanor of Driving a Motor Vehicle While Ability Impaired by Drugs. They were arraigned in the Town of Afton court and remanded to the Chenango County jail without bail.

A Roxbury man and woman were arrested by Delaware County Sheriff’s Office Investigators on felony drug possession charges Monday following a probation search that led to the seizure of approximately one hundred (100) grams of powder and crack cocaine, over eleven hundred dollars ($1100.00) cash and a number of fireworks. Sheriff’s Investigators arrested and charged 30 year old David Dykstra and 33 year old Lisa Skala on 2 counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance & Unlawfully Dealing with Fireworks. Dykstra was being supervised by the Delaware County Probation Department from a 2016 conviction in New Jersey. Dykstra and Skala were arraigned & were remanded to the Delaware County Jail on $150,000 bail pending further court action.

Governor Cuomo announced that he is directing the Traffic Safety Committee to examine the “Textalyzer” technology, which is being developed to determine if a motorist was texting while driving at the time of a crash. Cuomo said that committee will try to determine if the device can stand up to privacy & constitutionality questions that are being raised. Cuomo said that many state drivers are still using hand held devices while driving, in violation of state laws.
