Otsego County Sheriff’s Office arrested 45 year old Leo Guerrero of the Town of Otsego, for criminal mischief & Harassment, following the report of a domestic dispute on March 5th. Guerrero is accused of taking the victim’s phone to prevent the victim from contacting 911 & subjecting the victim to unwanted physical contact, he was released on his own recognizance following arraignment and the issuance of an order of protection.

Local sales tax collections in New York state increased by 14.1% in February compared to the same month in 2022, according to an analysis released today by State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli. Overall, local collections totaled $1.64 billion, up $203 million compared to the same time last year. New York City’s collections totaled $718 million, an increase of 11.6%, or $74.5 million, over February of 2022. All counties experienced strong increases in February collections, with most seeing double-digit growth.

Joe Ermeti of Sidney announced his candidacy for Delaware County District Attorney, the position is on the ballot this year following the election of former District Attorney John Hubbard to the position of County Court Judge. Ermeti has been an attorney for more that 30 years of experience as an attorney, he has served as Town of Sidney Attorney, Village of Bainbridge Attorney, and Otsego County Assistant Public Defender, and operated his own law office in Sidney from 1993 until 2019. Ermeti will face will be running in the June 27th Primary against Acting Delaware County District Attorney Shawn Smith

Former Otsego County Sheriff Donald Mundy has passed away. Mundy served as the Sheriff from 1993 until 2006, he also founded the Otsego County Law Enforcement Academy in 1995 which still trains Law Enforcement Officers throughout the region, he also served as a New York State Trooper from 1963 to 1985.

The Delaware County Sheriff’s Office arrested 23 year old Caitlyn Crandall of Sidney after a warrant was issued for her arrest by the Delaware County Family Court. Deputies arrested Crandall Wednesday afternoon, she was arraigned at the Village of Sidney Court & was remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility on no bail, and was directed to appear in Family Court when it was next in session.

Broome County DA’s office announced that 40 year old Quintin Wilson of Binghamton was convicted in Broome County Court in connection with a daytime Binghamton home invasion during which 2 people terrorized a 29-year-old woman. Wilson was found guilty for 2 counts of burglary, obstructing governmental administration and endangering the welfare of a child on March 5th 2021. Wilson will be sentenced on June 9.

Delaware County District Attorney’s Office announced that 41 year old Joshua Condon of Hartwick was sentenced to 20 year in prison for sexually abusing an 8 year old child. The sentences will be followed by 10 years of Post Release Supervision, and he will be required to register as a sex offender.

Delaware County District Attorney’s Office announced that 49 year old Lyman McCann of Delhi was arraigned on a 3 county Indictments in Delaware County Court last week. McCann was charged with failure to register a change of address, criminal possession of a weapon and Offering a False Instrument for filing . McCann is accused of failing to notify Law enforcement of a change of address, failing to register as a sex offender and possessing a billy club in October of last year, he was sent to the Delaware County Jail on $5,000 Cash Bail or $10,000 bond.

State Police & The Norwich City Police are investigating a situation where an individual entered the Chenango Memorial Hospital Today in need of medical attention from a gun shot wound. Proper protocols were followed at the hospital, Area Schools were also locked down, the public is not in imminent danger, this is an ongoing investigation.

Governor Kathy Hochul today announced that nearly $30 million has been awarded to help increase capacity at more than 400 existing state-licensed, registered, or permitted child care programs that are located in underserved areas of the state. In the Southern Tier, 12 awards will be issued, totaling over $620,000.

New Yorkers enrolled in the SNAP will receive the maximum allowable level of food benefits for October. All households participating in SNAP — including those already at the maximum level of benefits — will receive a supplemental allotment this month, resulting in a roughly $234 million infusion of federal funding into the State economy.

State Police arrested 66 year old Raymond Sidlauskas of Afton for 2nd degree Arson, for intentionally setting a trash can on fire and caused tens thousands of dollars of damage to a Bassett Hospital room and medical equipment. Several rooms were evacuated due to the fire and over a dozen patients, including nurses and a security guard were treated for smoke inhalation. The fire was extinguished by employees at the hospital. Sidlauskas was arrested and was transported to the Otsego County Jail for Centralized Arraignment.

Otsego Express public transit routes will start charging fares again in November. Over the last 6 months, Otsego County subsidized fares for passengers and funded the program with the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act.

Otsego County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the Dollar General on State Highway 28 in Hartwick for the report of a vehicle running into a utility pole, where the driver fled the scene on foot. Deputies and Cooperstown Police located the driver , 40 year old Kevin Clapper of Fly Creek a short distance from the scene. Clapper was arrested and charged with Aggravated DWI; Leaving the scene of a property damage accident & Consuming alcohol in a motor vehicle among several other charges, He was issued appearance tickets to the Town of Hartwick Court at a later date.

State Police are looking for 2 people who scammed a clerk at the Owego Speedway October 5th, by engaging in a series of purchases including lottery tickets and Visa cards, stealing over $3,693 from the store. The incident occurred on October 5, and it is believed the pair conducted a similar scam in Johnson City earlier that evening. They may be operating a white Ford sedan.
