2 men arrested for 4 gas station robberies in the same day in April of 2020 were sentenced in Otsego County Court.  42 year old Bryan Ruple was charged with Burglary & robbery & was sentenced to 7 years in jail in a plea bargain arrangement, and 41 year old Derrick Gray, 41, was charged with robbery and attempted robbery, he was sentenced to 2 1/2 to 5 years in prison, in Otsego County Court.

Otsego County Health department reported their 61st death from COVID 19 Monday & 9 new cases.  Otsego County reports 57 active cases, 8 are hospitalized They have had a total of 2388 cases since the pandemic started & 42 of the 61 deaths have occurred since January 1st.

Chenango County Public Health reported 3 new COVID cases today, they have 71 Active Cases, 261 Active Quarantines & 6 are hospitalized. They have had 3369 COVID cases.  Chenango County reported 2 more COVID deaths this morning, bringing their total to 76.

The State Health Department conducted almost 100,000 tests for COVID Monday, with over 1500 testing positive, for a 1.52% positivity rate.  Total COVID hospitalizations are at 2,026, the lowest amount since last November; there were 32 COVID related fatalities statewide Monday.

Governor Cuomo announced on Monday that SUNY and CUNY students must be vaccinated before they can return to in-person classes in the fall, The Governor is also calling on private universities to do the same.

The New York State Sheriffs’ Association elected Delaware County Sheriff Craig DuMond as Secretary of the New York State Sheriffs’ Association.  Sheriff DuMond will work with Sheriffs around the state to further the efforts of the Sheriffs’ Association to enhance public safety in New York State through professional training and accreditation programs, public safety programs, and advocacy.

Otsego County Sheriff’s department arrested an inmate at the Otsego County Jail on 19 counts of criminal contempt.  33 year old Tadd Sherwood is accused of repeatedly contacting the protected party that had an order of protection against him, while he was an inmate at the County Jail.

Jeff Idelson has been appointed as Interim President of the Hall of Fame through August 15, 2021. Idelson, who served as the Hall of Fame’s President from 2008-2019, begins in this role on Saturday, May 15.   Hall of Fame President Tim Mead announced that he would be leaving the organization this month, two years after succeeding Idelson in that role.

State Police have arrested 41 year old Jeremie Hoyt and 43 year old Peleg Booth, both of Davenport on numerous charges after an investigation into child pornography.  On April 28, State Police, their BCI Unit and the Computer Crimes Unit executed a search warrant in the town of Davenport after a tip was received from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.   Hoyt and Booth are accused of engaging in sexual acts with a child less than the age of 15, Hoyt is also accused of possessing and promoting images of child pornography.   Hoyt was arraigned & was remanded to the Delaware County Jail on $50,000 cash bail or $250,000 bond, Booth was arraigned & was remanded to the Delaware County Jail on no bail.  The investigation is on-going.

New York State continues to see progress against COVID-19, as Hospitalizations Drop to 2,016 Sunday, The number of ICU Patients Drop to 493, & the number of Ventilators Drop to 301, The Statewide Positivity Rate is 1.43%, there were 27 COVID-19 Deaths in New York State Sunday.

Delaware County Public health reported 11 new COVID cases for Saturday, Sunday & Monday out of 583 tested.  The number of active cases is 47, the number hospitalized is 6 & 55 are quarantined.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies stopped a vehicle on State Highway 10 Wednesday after observing it fail at the stop sign and traffic light.  48-year-old Charles Pieper of Walton was stopped, his State driving privileges were suspended, he was charged with aggravated unlicensed operation and failure to stop at a stop sign, and he was released to appear in the Town of Hamden Court on a later date.

Mass vaccination sites continue to open around the state, State health Commissioner Dr. Howard Zucker was at the opening of such a site on Long Island This Morning:

Dr. Zucker said that the state has been promised by the Biden administration that everyone will be eligible for the COVID 19 Vaccines by the end of May and the production is being ramped up by Pfizer, Moderna as well as Johnson & Johnson, some pharmaceutical companies that did not develop a vaccine have agreements with the first 3 to produce vaccines.

Chenango County Public Health reported 32 new COVID 19 cases since Friday, bringing their total to 2563 since the pandemic began.  They currently report 78 active cases, 227 quarantined and 11 hospitalized.  There have been 2328 Total Recoveries & 63 deaths from the virus.

Sidney Police Department responded Saturday to the report of a person being thrown from a vehicle on a public highway.  Officers located a 17 year old male with injuries consistent with what was reported, he was transported to a medical facility for evaluation.   Sidney Police arrested 42 year old Stanley McDonald of Sidney for DWI, Aggravated DWI, Reckless driving, driving a motor vehicle without a proper license, McDonald was released on appearance tickets to appear in Village of Sidney Court at a later date, the investigation is continuing & more charges may be forthcoming.

US Senator Kirsten Gillibrand appeared in Binghamton this afternoon to call for legislation to expand community school funding and bolster services for low-income and underserved students, families, and communities. The Full-Service Community School Expansion Act of 2021 would deliver more than $3.6 billion to expand community schools,  Gillibrand will appear at 1:00 PM at the Binghamton University Downtown Center on Washington Street.

State Police arrested 24 year old Aaron Johnson of Norwich, for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance with intent to sell, Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs, Criminal Possession of a Weapon, Possessing a Loaded Firearm in a Motor Vehicle and 4 counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance.  Troopers initiated a traffic stop after observing a vehicle on State Highway 7 in the town of Unadilla, failing to maintain a lane.  Troopers observed a rifle in the passenger seat,  Johnson is accused of possessing methamphetamine and heroin.   Johnson was issued appearance tickets to the town of Unadilla court today.

Brian Ruple of Oneonta & Derrick Gray of Laurens pleaded guilty to a variety of charges connected with a break in last year at Losie’s Gun Shop, a holdup & assault of a clerk at the Dollar Tree in Oneonta & the hold up of convenience stores in Oneonta & Otego on April 24th 2020. Ruple will serve a total of 9½ to 12 years in state prison, plus five years of supervised release, Gray was charged with 3rd-degree robbery and attempted robbery in connection with the gas station hold ups, both face sentencing later this year.

The State Health Department reported 206,680 New Yorkers were tested for COVID Saturday, with  5,943 positives, a positivity rate of 2.88%.  Patient Hospitalizations dropped to 4,486 , the number in ICU beds was down to 927 & the number on Ventilators dropped to 619, there were 62 deaths, the state reports over 39,000 deaths since the pandemic began.

Delaware County Public Health announced 25 new COVID 19 positive cases Friday & 9 new cases Saturday, & 9 more on Sunday with 2 more deaths attributed to the virus over the weekend, giving the county 44 deaths since the pandemic hit a little over a year ago.  Delaware County reported 133 active cases, 15 hospitalized & 405 quarantined

The Sidney Central School District has been notified that a 4th grade student has tested positive for COVID-19. The student has not been on campus since Friday, March 12th. The Delaware County Health Department has conducted an investigation and the contact tracing has been completed. There will be no change to the instructional model at this time.

Chenango County Public Health announced that they are at 245 total positive cases of COVID 19 since March.  They currently have 6 Active Cases, 1 person is hospitalized, 104 are quarantined, and there have been 7 deaths & 215 recoveries.

The Otsego County Sheriff’s Deputy, who allegedly accidentally discharged his weapon in an Oneida county restaurant Saturday night, has put on a leave of absence.  A child and a woman suffered minor injuries when the bullet ricocheted off of the floor in Camden New York, State Police are investigating the incident, and the name of the deputy has not been released.

State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli announced that former Delhi Deputy Highway Superintendent Brian Rosenthal was charged with 3rd degree Grand Larceny last week, for allegedly overstating his sick leave by more than 270 hours, worth about $6,000.  Rosenthal was charged following a joint investigation by DiNapoli, State Police and the Delaware County District Attorney’s office.

2 Otsego County residents charged in a string of armed robberies & burglaries in April, appeared in Otsego County court Friday.  41 Year old Brian Ruple of Oneonta & 41 year old Derrick Gray of Laurens are accused of a break in at Losie’s Gun Shop, and armed robberies at Oneonta & Otego convenience stores in April, pleaded not guilty to a variety of robbery & assault charges, they face court action at a later date.

NYSEG is urging customers to be vigilant of scammers posing as representatives of the energy company, after they received reports of customers having accepted calls from people who claim to be NYSEG employees.  The new scam attempts reportedly involve a call explaining that an overcharge has been made to the customer’s account and offer a future bill credit, with the caller asking for personal information.   Customers have also reported calls threatening to cut service unless an immediate payment is made over the phone.  NYSEG officials said that customer service will never demand customers to purchase debit cards such as Green Dot cards to make payments, anyone with questions should contact NYSEG by using the phone numbers on their monthly bill.

Delaware County is reporting no new positive test result for COVID-19 and 4 additional recoveries. The known active cases in the County as of today is 3, all 3 are isolated at home. To date there have been 117 confirmed positive cases of COVID19 in Delaware County, with 65 people now under mandatory quarantine, 6 people have died and 108 have fully recovered.

Otsego County Department of Health announced that there will be free rapid testing at the Armory in Oneonta from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM today & Wednesday. Pre-registration is required by calling 547-4279.  The Otsego County Current COVID numbers:  683 confirmed cases linked to SUNY Oneonta,  15 confirmed cases in Hartwick College students,  45 active cases currently residing in the county, there have been  841 total confirmed cases, there are no hospitalizations.
