Delaware County Sheriff’s Office arrested 4 individuals on drug charges. Deputies were assisted by the Delhi Police, Deputies located a quantity of Fentanyl and drug paraphernalia within the vehicle and on the persons inside the vehicle. Arrested were 25-year-old Sean Gillespie of Delhi, 27-year-old Marissa Peck of Andes, 32-year-old Shaun Carman of Delhi & 27-year-old Erin Hubbell of Margaretville, All 4 were transported to the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office to await Centralized Processing Arraignment.

State Police were called to State Highway 12B in the town of Sherburne Sunday for a report of a motorcycle accident. When Troopers arrived, a dirt bike was observed in a ditch at the point of Foote Hill Road and State Highway 12B, their investigation determined that 26 year old Derek Leinbach of Sherburne, was traveling on State Highway 12B when he slid off the road into a ditch, he was pronounced dead at the scene, The investigation is ongoing.

Contraceptives will be available without a prescription in New York under an order signed by state health officials on Tuesday. The measure comes as the first over-the-counter birth control pill was made available in U.S. stores this month. The Food and Drug Administration said that the once-a-day Opill could be sold on store shelves and without a prescription. More than 25 states already allow pharmacists to provide contraceptive care.

74 year old George Sydlar of Davenport was sentenced to 30 days in jail when he appeared in Delaware County Court Tuesday. A jury convicted Sydlar of Falsely Reporting an Incident to 911, for calling 911 repeatedly to falsely report that his neighbor committed a crime, Police instructed Sydlar that his complaint with the neighbor was a civil complaint & and not a criminal one. A pre-sentence investigation was conducted by the Delaware County Probation Department, Sydlar refused to cooperate, & he was sentenced to 30 days in Jail, and he was transported to the Delaware County Correctional Facility to serve his sentence.

Delaware County District Attorney’s Office reported that Katie Ryerson was convicted of Petty Larceny, while she was employed at the Delhi Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, she stole oxycodone pills from a nursing home resident for her own personal use in June 2023. Ryerson was placed on interim probation supervision for at least one year. Part of this requires Ryerson to enroll in and complete the Delaware County Adult Treatment Court Program. If she fails to complete the program, she will be sentenced to one year in jail, she is also expected to temporarily lose her nursing license.

43 year old Misty Cintron of Sidney was convicted in Delaware County Court to Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance & Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance with intent to sell. Cintron admitted to selling fentanyl in the Village of Sidney on December 30, 2022. and for possessing at home with intent to sell. she was arrested along with Brandon Hendricks last November, he was also convicted of similar charges in February. Cintron will be sentenced to 3 and 1/2 years in state prison, on the 1st charge, and 3 and 1/2 years in state prison, to be followed by 1 year of post-release supervision for her 2nd conviction, The sentences will run concurrently, and she will also be permitted to enroll in the Lakeview Rehabilitation program once she is transferred into state prison, Cintron was remanded back to the Delaware County Correctional Facility.

6 area Fire departments responded to a barn fire on State Highway 28 near Fly Creek Tuesday morning around 6:30 a.m. Firefighters were able to save a tool shed and all its contents, a Barn, chicken coop and a tractor were lost in the blaze.

Otsego County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the Dollar General on State Highway 28 in Hartwick for the report of a vehicle running into a utility pole, where the driver fled the scene on foot. Deputies and Cooperstown Police located the driver , 40 year old Kevin Clapper of Fly Creek a short distance from the scene. Clapper was arrested and charged with Aggravated DWI; Leaving the scene of a property damage accident & Consuming alcohol in a motor vehicle among several other charges, He was issued appearance tickets to the Town of Hartwick Court at a later date.

State Police are looking for 2 people who scammed a clerk at the Owego Speedway October 5th, by engaging in a series of purchases including lottery tickets and Visa cards, stealing over $3,693 from the store. The incident occurred on October 5, and it is believed the pair conducted a similar scam in Johnson City earlier that evening. They may be operating a white Ford sedan. A new state law goes into effect today that will fine motorists with vehicle mufflers and exhaust systems modified to make them louder than the stock applications. The maximum fines for installing the illegal equipment will increase from $150 to $1,000, and if repair shop owners are caught installing the equipment three times within 18 months, they risk losing their certificate of inspection stations and operating certificate. The legislation also adds a requirement for inspection stations to check motorcycles for mufflers and exhausts that have been illegally modified.

Broome County District Attorney Mike Korchak announced that Jordan Rindgen, Yaron Kweller & Leor Kweller were arraigned in Broome County Court. Rindgen was charged with Criminal Sale of a controlled substance, Criminal Possession of a controlled substance, sexual abuse, criminal sexual act, Criminal facilitation & Unlawfully dealing with a child. Yaron Kweller was charged with 1st degree Rape & Criminal Sexual act, Leor Kweller was charged with 1st degree rape & Sexual Abuse. The charges stem for an incident near the Colonial Bar in Downtown Binghamton that the 3 men owned, on November 27th of 2021. All 3 pleaded not guilty to the Charges from the Indictment handed down in Broome County Court.

A judge has ordered New York’s Democrat-controlled Legislature to redraw the state’s congressional and legislative districts after finding they were unconstitutional. Judge Patrick McAllister ruled that maps redrawing the state’s congressional districts were gerrymandered to benefit Democrats, he gave lawmakers until April 11 to draw new maps, if those fail, the judge said he would order the state to pay for a court-approved expert to redraw the maps.

November 10 was the last day absentee ballots could be received by the Board of Elections across New York State, and now those votes will be officially added to the count. There were many more absentee ballots sent out this year due to the pandemic, in New York’s 22nd Congressional District race, the counting of the absentee ballots starts this week, Republican Claudia Tenney held a lead over incumbent Anthony Brindisi, but there were more than 64,000 absentee ballots requested in that district this year.

Fire Investigators in Otsego County believe that it was a spark from a lawn mower may have caused a fire that destroyed a barn in Fly Creek Tuesday. Chenango County Public Health announced today their latest COVID 19 numbers, they have 36 Active cases, 240 are quarantined, & 4 people are hospitalized. They report a total of 472 cases since the spring, with 9 deaths, 413 recoveries & they have conducted just under 40,000 tests.

Hartwick College reported no new cases of COVID-19 were reported, they still have 9 active cases on campus; the total number of cases detected on campus since August 1st is 66.

Otsego County Department of Health reported 4 new cases of COVID 19 Tuesday. The County has 39 active cases, no one is hospitalized, there have been 8 deaths, of the 1072 total confirmed cases, 755 cases are linked to SUNY Oneonta & 64 cases are reported in Hartwick College students .

Delaware County Public Health reported another 10 cases of COVID 19 Tuesday, giving them a total of 251 since March. There are 11 hospitalized, among the 72 active cases, 240 are quarantined, 170 have recovered, the county has had 9 deaths.

The State Health department reported that 3965 people tested positive for COVID 19 Monday out of 128,036 total tests, or just over 3% of all tested. Patient Hospitalizations went up by more than 100 to 1,548, the number in ICU beds went up by 14 to 296 & the number of ventilators was up slightly to 128. There were 32 COVID Deaths, the state death toll is 26,005.

State Senator Jim Seward announced the late Corporal Michael Mayne of Burlington Flats is the 2020 inductee to the New York State Senate Veterans’ Hall of Fame from the 51st Senate District. Corporal Mayne served in the United States Army during Operation Iraqi Freedom, he lost his life at the age of 21, along with 2 other American soldiers and a translator on February 23, 2009, in Iraq when insurgents attacked his unit.

State Police arrested 48-year-old Frederick Gustina of Cleveland, New York, for Aggravated DWI with a B.A.C. result of .31%, plus other traffic violations. The arrest occurred after troopers responded to a domestic dispute at a home on East Main Street in the Town of Worcester, troopers were advised that Gustina had left the area in a Toyota FJ Cruiser; he was stopped nearby and was taken into custody. Gustina was arraigned in the Town of Maryland court and was remanded to the Otsego County jail in lieu of $500 cash bail or $1,000 property bond; his next court date is on June 20, 2017.

61-year-old Gerald Porter of Binghamton was found guilty today in Broome County Court of burglarizing the apartment of a deceased resident’s body was removed. The jury convicted Porter for 2nd-degree burglary & criminal possession of stolen property, he faces sentencing on September 7th.

65-Year-old Robert Doggert of Tennessee has been sentenced to 19 years in a federal prison, on charges of solicitation to commit a civil rights act, & solicitation to commit arson. Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies investigated a 1-car accident Tuesday evening on State Highway 206 in the Town of Tompkins that resulted in a Walton woman being air-lifted to the hospital. The driver of the vehicle, 30-year-old Joshua Crisell of Walton lost control of his vehicle when he reached for an item in the vehicle causing the vehicle to run off the roadway, strike a number of small trees and overturn. A passenger in the vehicle, 29-year-old MistyBlue Crisell, sustained back and head injuries and was airlifted to Wilson Hospital in Johnson City. Crisell was charged with failure to keep hands on the steering wheel, moving from lane unsafely and operating a motor vehicle out of license class, he would face action in Town of Tompkins Court at a later date.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies and members of the Delhi Fire Department and Emergency Squad responded to an off-road, All Terrain Vehicle accident on Tuesday night at Elk Creek Road. 75-year-old Peter Clark of Delhi left his farm shortly after 6:00 PM, to search for lost livestock in a wooded area when his four wheeled ATV rolled over, trapping Clark’s legs beneath the vehicle. Graduation ceremonies will begin locally at 10:00 AM for the Sidney, Delhi, Greene, Norwich, Walton & Harpursville seniors, at 10:30 for Gilbertsville Mount Upton Seniors, at 10:45 for Oneonta Seniors and 11:00 AM for Oxford academy graduates. Exercises continue Saturday afternoon at 2:00 PM for Unadilla valley Grads, & Saturday evening at 7:00 for the Bainbridge Guilford district. On Sunday Afternoon at 1:00 PM, Edmeston seniors will graduate.

The State Legislature wrapped up their 2015 session early this morning in Albany. Area Assemblyman Cliff crouch comments:

The legislative session went about week longer than initially expected, Crouch said that there are a few items left on the table, it’s unsure if Governor Cuomo will call lawmakers back for special sessions later in the year to deal with those issues.

The Broome County Sheriff’s Office responded this morning to the report of a tractor trailer hauling baby formula rolling over on I-88. The accident occurred at about 7:10 this morning in the town of Dickinson, near the ramp to I-81 South; about 34,000 pounds of powdered baby formula was in the truck at the time. 50 year old Allen Boudreau of Vermont apparently went off the right shoulder of the road on a sharp curve, The trailer tipped over and skidded along the Barrier over I-81, it eventually flipped onto its side at the end of the bridge and went down over an embankment in the area of Nirchi’s Pizza on Front Street. Boudreau was taken to UHS Wilson Hospital in Johnson City for minor injuries, he was issued tickets for speed not reasonable and prudent and failure to maintain lane, more charges may be forthcoming.

State Police arrested 47 year old Keith Barlow of Fly Creek for Driving While Intoxicated. The arrest occurred after a traffic stop for driving with a broken tail light on State Route 28 in the Town of Otsego. Barlow’s arrest became a felony due to a prior conviction for DWI within the last 10 years. Barlow was arraigned in the Town of Hartwick Court and was remanded to the Otsego County Jail in lieu of $1,000 cash bail or $2,000 bond.

19th district Congressman Chris Gibson will be in Franklin today. The Congressman will appear at 5:30 PM for the Franklin Veterans Memorial flag presentation at the Village Park, Gibson will present a flag from the U.S. Capitol to be flown over the park in honor of local veterans. At 7:00 PM, Congressman Gibson will deliver the commencement address to Franklin High School graduating seniors, at the Franklin High School.

The Oneonta Common Council will have a special meeting at 6:00 PM Monday. The Council will consider approval of the applications for certain grants relating to the operating of the Oneonta Municipal Airport. The meeting will be held in the Common Council chambers at City Hall it will be open to the public.

Cuomo’s legislative agenda is disbanding. The Committee to Save New York blanketed the tv airwaves in 2011 and 2012, promoting Cuomo’s budget plans and financial austerity measures like the state’s now-implemented property-tax cap. The group went silent in 2013 as new state rules took effect that would have required it to disclose its major donors. The decision to disband comes as the Moreland Act Commission, which was created by Cuomo earlier this year, conducts an investigation into corruption and the state’s campaign finance system.

The New York City Department of Environmental Protection announced several stream improvement projects. Work includes Fly Creek at Fleischmanns – Middletown in Delaware County, receiving $1.3 million to stabilize eroded streambanks and damaged retaining walls. Another project will be started at Dry Brook at the Arkville Trailer Park – $400,000 to stabilize areas of erosion, and the stream bank and flood plain will be reconstructed to their approximate pre-flood locations.

Gov Cuomo raised the possibility of creating a “death penalty” for underperforming public schools in New York, suggesting he may push legislation next year allowing the state to take action. Cuomo said he will craft a plan for dealing with “failing schools” when lawmakers return to the state Capitol in January. The governor laid out a number of possibilities for dealing with underperforming schools, including potentially allowing the state, a local mayor or a charter school to take over. Any of those moves would require approval by state lawmakers.

Proposed tax incentives to encourage revitalization of house in Oneonta will be reviewed tonight at 6 in common council chambers at city hall in Oneonta. The city community imporovement committee will present motions on home rule pertaining to the program at the council’s regulary scheduled meeting which will start at 7pm. The public is welcome.

The New York State Fair has ended with a slight increase in attendance over last year, with more than 850,000 people visiting the fairgrounds in Syracuse. Fair officials say yesterday’s closing-day attendance was nearly 61,000, pushing overall attendance for 2013 to just over 851,000. That compares to about 845,000 last year. The all-time record for attendance was set in 2001, when more than 1 million people passed through the gates.

Wolfanger was arraigned in the Town of Greene Court and released on his own recognize, he is scheduled to reappear in the Town of Greene Court at a later date.

The Chenango county sheriff’s department arrested 48-year-old Richard Pollock of Norwich for 2nd degree Criminal Contempt.   Pollock was arrested following a complaint by the victim that Pollock allegedly violated an order of protection.   Pollock was arraigned in the Town of Sherburne Court and sent to the Chenango County Correctional Facility on $500 cash bail.  Pollock is to re-appear in court on a later date.
