36 year old Richard Hayes of Oneonta appeared in Delaware County Court & was arraigned on a sealed indictment for Aggravated Sexual Abuse, Failure to Register or Verify as a Sex Offender, for inappropriately touching a female child less than 11 years old, causing physical injury to the child, Hayes is also accused failing to register with the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office as he was required by law. After being arraigned, Hayes pleaded not guilty to the indictment, he was remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility on $50,000 cash bail pending future court action.

28 year old Scott Googins of Delhi was indicted by the Delaware County Grand Jury on a 3-count indictment. Googins was charged with 2nd degree strangulation, 3rd degree Assault, & criminal mischief, he is accused of choking a female victim until she lost consciousness, intentionally causing physical injury to the same victim & preventing the victim from calling 911 during the domestic assault. Googins was released from custody after posting $3,000 cash bail, if convicted, he up to 7 years in state prison.

State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli reported that New York State received $1.06 for Every Tax Dollar Sent to Washington D.C. in Federal Fiscal Year 2022, it was the 3rd Consecutive Year of Positive Balance. The money mostly came from the federal pandemic relief funds, previously, New York was sent way more to the federal Government than they received back. In Federal Fiscal Year 2022, New York state generated $361.8 billion in federal taxes and benefited from $383 billion in federal spending.

Broome County Sheriff’s Deputies responded Tuesday night to a report of a robbery in progress at the Sunoco Gas Station / Empire Food Store in Harpursville. Brody Kenyon of the Town of Colesville had entered the store and demanded a lighter and lighter fluid, he allegedly doused the employee with it and attempted to set him on fire, the attempt was unsuccessful, the spilled lighter fluid ignited and burned an ATM before extinguishing. Kenyon then stole several items & fled on foot. Patrols located Kenyon, he was charged with Arson, Assault with Intent to Cause Serious Injury with a Weapon, Robbery, Reckless Endangerment, he was arraigned and remains in custody at the Broome County Correctional Facility. Kenyon was also charged with attempted Burglary & criminal mischief for attempting to break into the Harpursville Fire Station and damaging property, prior to the gas station incident.

State Police arrested 30 year old Damion Horne of Oxford for Possession of a Sexual Performance by a Child. State Police received a cybertip of child sexual abuse material that was uploaded to an online file manager, an investigation determined that Horne viewed child sexual abuse material through a mobile device. Horne was arrested and issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Oxford Court on May 8th.

The Broome County Sheriff’s Office announced that 40 year old Rasheed Crawford of Binghamton was arrested following a robbery in Endicott. On Wednesday night, Crawford allegedly pulled a handgun to rob an Endicott gas station, he left the scene in a cab. Broome County Sheriff’s Office patrol in the Town of Union spotted the cab, conducted a traffic stop & Crawford was successfully taken into custody and turned over to the Endicott Police Department. Crawford was also wanted by the Binghamton Police Department regarding two robberies that occurred in the City of Binghamton on April 9, 2024.

State Police received a cybertip of child sexual abuse material that was uploaded to a mobile messaging application in November, An investigation determined that 31 year old Bethany Crispell of Smithville, used a mobile messaging application to view and exchange child sexual materials. Crispell was charged with Promoting a Sexual Performance by a Child Under the Age of 17 and Possessing a Sexual Performance by a Child, she was remanded to the Cortland County Correctional Facility and is due to appear in the Town of Smithville Court on February 6th.

3 murder suspects are in custody after a joint police operation between the U.S. Marshals, Southern Tier SWAT Team, the Broome County Special Investigations Unit Task Force and the Endicott Police Department Wednesday night. U.S. Marshals Service notified Broome County Sheriff’s Deputies of 3 murder suspects possibly staying in Endicott, for a murder, robbery & Arson on January 20th in Norristown, Pennsylvania. A search warrant was obtained for 1104 Monroe Street in Endicott, the law enforcement agencies executed the search warrant & arrested 29 year old Daquan Allen, 18 year old Damon Brantley & 28 year old Jerry Butler, they were taken to the Broome County Sheriff’s Correctional Facility as fugitives from justice, where they were remanded, & are awaiting extradition to Pennsylvania.

Delaware County Sheriff Deputies arrested 20 year old Timothy Taylor of Starlight Pennsylvania, formerly of Franklin last year for the charge of Endanger the Welfare of a Child and Sexual Misconduct. On September 27th, 2023, the Town of Hancock Court had issued an Bench Warrant for Timothy Taylor for Failing to Appear for a scheduled Court hearing. On December 31st, the Delaware County was contacted by the Chenango County Sheriff’s office that they had taken Taylor in custody on unrelated charges. Taylor was turned over to the Delaware County Sheriff Deputies where he was transported to the Delaware County Correctional Facility to await the Centralized Arrangement Process.

In 2023 the Sidney Police Department announced that they handled a total of 3,063 calls for service. The Department report said that they responded to 2,032 calls that were criminal in nature, 76 of those were felonies, there 73 animal complaints, 150 were EMS or Fire related, 287 were assisting another agency, 79 were mental health incidents & there were 73 Motor vehicle accidents in Sidney in 2023. Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested 22 year old Cody Amidon of Sherburne for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance with intent to sell & Criminal use of Drug Paraphernalia, after conducting a traffic stop on a motor vehicle for an equipment violation, in the Town of Norwich. Amidon had a backpack containing methamphetamine, a digital scale, and packaging materials, He will appear in the Town of Norwich court at a later date.

Troopers Steven Missale and Ronald Raymond observed a Mercedes E350 Wednesday traveling on I-87 between exit 15 and exit 15A, The driver of the vehicle was wanted in connection with a attempted homicide in Albany, A traffic stop was conducted & 35 year old Rakim Tillery of Albany, fired on the troopers who both returned fire, striking Tillery, who was pronounced deceased on the scene. 45 year old Kellie Sanderson of Delhi, pleaded guilty to Welfare Fraud in Delaware County Court, she submitted several false applications that failed to disclose income to the Department of Social Services & was overpaid a total of $9,219.00 in public benefits, after she failed to report financial gifts that she failed to disclose to the Department of Social Services. Sanderson will be sentenced to 5 years of felony probation supervision with a requirement to pay restitution.

State Police were asked to check the welfare of a student at Schenevus Central School, The student left the school after speaking with school staff and was interviewed at home by Investigators. It was determined that the student was suffering from a mental health crisis and did have a firearm in his possession while at school. The student did not make any direct threats or display a weapon at any time. The juvenile was charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon and Criminal Possession of a Weapon on School Grounds and appeared before a judge in Otsego County Supreme Court – Youth Part. Investigators applied for an Extreme Risk Protection Order and the juvenile was transported for a mental health evaluation.

Ganesh Ramsaran pleaded guilty to killing his wife Jennifer in 2012 in Chenango County Court Thursday. Ramsaran was sentenced to 22 years in prison for manslaughter, Ramsaran was granted a retrial last year after Ramsaran claimed he received inadequate defense in his previous trial.

Broome County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 35 year old Devyn Wilcox of Harpursville on 27 counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child & 1 count of disorderly conduct on Thursday. Deputies responded Thursday afternoon to the Harpursville School District Bus, Wilcox is accused of entering the stopped bus and began yelling, screaming, swearing and threatening juveniles, according to witnesses & video. There were 30 students from elementary school to high school ages on the bus. Wilcox was taken into custody without incident at his residence, he was processed at the Broome County Sheriff’s Correctional Facility and released on appearance tickets for the Town of Colesville Court at a later date. The investigation is continuing.

The State Department of Health released a report regarding tobacco related cancers from 2016 – 2020. Approximately 46,000 cases of tobacco-related cancers are diagnosed in New York State each year. Among the four cancers most closely related to tobacco, rates of esophagus, larynx and lung cancer have steeply declined, but oral cancer increased by 1.3%. Tobacco-related cancers make up 40% of all State cancer cases diagnosed annually. 73 year old Danton Schriber of Walton appeared in Walton Town Court today and entered a guilty plea to Driving While Intoxicated. On May 12th, State Police pulled Schriber over after several traffic violations were observed, he failed the sobriety test and a chemical analysis of his blood revealed a blood alcohol content of .15%. Schriber’s license was revoked for 6 months, he was assessed a fine and surcharge, and ordered the installation of an Ignition Interlock Device, he will also be required to enroll in the Impaired Driving Program and the Victim Impact Panel.

Delaware County Sheriff Deputies announced the arrest of 37-year-old Nicole Olvera of Delhi, following a motor vehicle accident investigation. On August 11th, Deputies responded to an accident on State Highway 28, in the Town of Delhi. Olvera was charged with DWI and driving while having a blood alcohol content of 0.08% or higher, plus moving from lane unsafely, Olvera was released on appearance tickets returnable to the Town of Delhi Court at a later date.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Office arrested 40 year old Katie Mills of Wellsville. On July 29th, Deputies received a call regarding an abandoned vehicle parked in a driveway located on State Highway 28 in the Town of Delhi. Deputies made contact with Mills, they discovered that she was operating a motor vehicle while her driving privileges had been suspended, having 4 active suspensions. Mills was charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation, Uninspected Motor Vehicle, Operating a Motor Vehicle without Insurance, and other related charges, she was released with an appearance ticket where she will appear in the Town of Delhi Court at a later date.

42 year old Vincent Rispoli of Delhi was sentenced in Delaware County Court after refusing to participate in the Delaware County Adult Treatment Court Program. Rispoli had previously pled guilty on May 8th, to DWI, he was arrested by Delhi Police on November 21, 2021, Rispoli had a BAC of .18 percent. Judge Rosa sentenced Rispoli to a 1-year conditional discharge, a fine and surcharge, Victim Impact Panel, the Impaired Driving Program, and a six-month driver’s license revocation. Prior to sentencing, Rispoli had been given the opportunity to participate in the Delaware County Adult Treatment Court Program, but refused stating that he did not believe he had a substance abuse problem.

The Broome County Special Investigations Task Force executed a narcotics search warrant in the Town of Chenango, at the Comfort Inn on Upper Front Street. 42 year old James Konidis of Binghamton is accused of throwing a package of narcotics out of his 4th floor window in an attempt to hide or dispose of the drugs, investigators located 6.1 grams of Fentanyl thrown from the window, plus they seized methamphetamine as well as a scale for weighing narcotics from the room. Konidis was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Tampering with /Attempting to Conceal or Destroy with Physical Evidence, Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia, Konidis was taken to Central Arraignment at the Broome County Sheriff’s Correctional Facility for processing and arraignment.

Today, U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand visited the Southern Tier Crime Analysis Center to announce Senate passage of her FEND Off Fentanyl Act. Fentanyl is 50 times stronger than heroin, the majority of illegal fentanyl entering the United States is made with Chinese precursor chemicals and manufactured in Mexico. This bill will empower the U.S. government to go after the cartels bringing Fentanyl into the US and those producing and shipping the precursor materials. The law also enhances sanctions enforcement and gives the Treasury Department tools to combat fentanyl-related money laundering.

State Police arrested 3 teens after fleeing from law enforcement in a vehicle. Troopers were in Endicott they observed a Hyundai Elantra that was reported stolen out of the Syracuse area. Troopers attempted to make a traffic stop, The vehicle accelerated and failed to comply. Numerous violations occurred through multiple villages, towns and city. While on Interstate 81 near exit 5, Troopers deployed a Stinger, which is a tire deflation device, All 4 tires deflated and 3 juvenile occupants were taken into custody, they were charged with Criminal Possession of Stolen Property, the 16-year-old driver was also charged Unlawfully Fleeing from a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle. The Broome County provided an update on the progress of their new Criminal Investigations Unit at the Broome County Correctional Facility. The new unit consists of a supervisor and 2 full-time investigators, including a trained K9 handler that can search for drugs and various contraband inside the facility. The Unit has made 8 arrests resulting in 6 felonies and 3 misdemeanors, ranging from Promoting prison contraband to assault, to criminal mischief.

43 year old Nicholas Marte of Mount Upton  was sentenced to 1 year of Drug Treatment Court, along with 5 years of felony probation supervision in Delaware County Court. On April 7, 2022, Hancock Police discovered Marte passed out in his vehicle at the Valero Parking lot, police confiscated needles and heroin. Marte pleaded guilty to Attempted Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, on Monday he was sentenced on his conviction, he must enroll in and successfully complete Adult Treatment Court.

Otsego County Sheriff’s Office arrested 34 year old Jesse Dilatush of Burlington following an investigation of a burglary which occurred in 2022. Dilatush was charged with Burglary, Grand Larceny Petty Larceny & Criminal Mischief, he is accused of forcing his way into a dwelling and stealing a Kubota tractor which was later found abandoned in the Town of Burlington. Chenango County Sheriff’s Office located Dilatush in the Town of Columbus and he was turned over to investigators for arrest processing, he was being held at the Otsego County Correctional Facility pending court proceedings.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies responded Friday to a 2 car motor vehicle accident with injuries on State Highway 206 in the Town of Tompkins. After further investigation, deputies identified the one of the drivers of the vehicle as 66 year-old Terence Gebler of Walton, whose driver’s license was suspended. Johnnie Hardwick of Binghamton will spend 12 years in jail following a hold up at Weis Markets in Binghamton last October. Hardwick was approached by a store employee & pulled a knife and threatened to stab the employee. State Police are warning New Yorkers of a computer scam. Police report that when logging on to a computer, a message is displayed on the screen that states to contact Microsoft due to a virus, the victim then contacts the phone number provided and speaks with a person who identifies themselves as a representative of Microsoft’s Security Office. The victim is then told their bank account information has been compromised. Anyone who receives a message to reach out to “Microsoft” support should not call & should never provide any personal information as it can be used to steal personal information.

Police seized Opioids, methamphetamine, suboxone strips, 5 long guns and 2 handguns, they arrested 47 year-old James Roberts on drug and weapons charges & 43 year-old Danielle Ashdown on weapons charges. Thursday, officers pulled over a vehicle with stolen plates in Binghamton and seized hydrocodone, ecstasy and a pair of handguns, 1 was reported stolen from Owego, they arrested 44 year-old Rondell Wright, 34 year-old Calvin Chambers, 24 year-old John Carter and 38 year-old Shauna Massey. On Thursday, officers raided 1 Lawton Avenue in Binghamton and seized meth, fentanyl and drug selling materials. Police arrested 39 year-old Robert Titus on drug charges.

On April 22, Broome County Sheriff’s Office patrol responded to motor vehicle accident at State Route 12 and 12A in the Town of Chenango, 50 year old Jennifer Chamberlain of Binghamton was talked out of the vehicle by a deputy as gas was spilling onto the pavement, fire fighters responded to the crash and leak. Chamberlain attempted to make a turn, but veered wide left, crossing lanes of traffic. Her vehicle jumped over a raised curb and continued over a mulch bed striking several signposts and bushes before coming to a stop in the gas station parking lot. The broken signposts had ruptured the vehicle’s gas tank. Chamberlain’s BAC was .27%, over 3 times the legal limit, she was charged with Driving While Intoxicated, Aggravated DWI with a BAC of 0.18 or more, Speed Not Reasonable & Prudent, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation among other charges, she was arraigned and released on an appearance ticket for Town of Chenango Court.

Attorney General Letitia James announced that 340 firearms were turned in at a community gun buyback event hosted by her office and the Johnson City Police Department. Attorney General James’ office held 9 gun buyback events statewide with more than 3,000 guns turned in, including 185 assault rifles, 1,656 handguns, and 823 long guns. In Johnson City, they received 25 assault rifles, 169 handguns, and 114 long guns.

Delaware County District Attorney’s office announced that 45 year old Timothy Bennett of Walton, pleaded guilty to Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated by alcohol and Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Vehicle, Wednesday. Bennet crashed his car in January on State Highway 10, in the Town of Walton. The investigation revealed that the Bennet was intoxicated by alcohol and had a BAC of .18 & had a suspended driver’s license, he was sentenced to a 3-year term of probation supervision, he must complete the impaired driver program and a victim impact panel, undergo a drug and alcohol evaluation, & he must install an ignition interlock device in any vehicle he owns, his license was revoked for a minimum of 1 year, and he was ordered to pay over $1600 in fines and surcharges.

State Police responded Friday evening to a reported fatal car versus pedestrian accident on State Route 7 in the Town of Colesville. The investigation revealed that a pickup truck was traveling westbound on State Route 7 when the driver was unable to avoid the pedestrian, who has been identified at 47 year old Angela Kelley of Binghamton. The investigation revealed that Kelley was walking in the westbound lane while dressed in dark clothing and the operator of the pickup was unable to avoid Kelley in the roadway.

48-year-old Jeremy Griffin of Endicott pleaded guilty to felony Assault in Broome County Court. In August, Griffin repeatedly punched a 32-year-old woman in the face, fracturing her jaw, during a domestic dispute at an apartment on East Main Street in Endicott. He was also in violation of a court order of protection prohibiting him from contact with the woman. Griffin has a prior felony conviction for burglary in 1993. He will be sentenced to 4 years in New York State prison on May 16.

The New York State Police today announced that Troopers issued more than 11,800 tickets during a special STOP DWI traffic enforcement period over Super Bowl Weekend. During the campaign which started on Friday, February 10th through Monday February 13th. Troopers arrested 183 people for DWI and investigated 490 crashes, which resulted in 73 people being injured and four fatalities.

Local sales tax collections in New York state increased by 9.2% in January compared to the same month in 2022, according to State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli. Every county experienced some year-over-year growth in January collections, with Delaware County seeing the largest increase at 26%, followed by Schenectady and Cayuga counties.

Otsego County Sheriff’s Office arrested 61 year old Michael McBride of Oneonta following a domestic dispute in the Town of Oneonta on February 13th. McBride was charged with Criminal Contempt & Harassment, he is accused of violating an order of protection during the course of a domestic dispute by subjecting the victim to unwanted physical contact, he was being held pending future court action.
