State Police responded Friday evening to a reported fatal car versus pedestrian accident on State Route 7 in the Town of Colesville. The investigation revealed that a pickup truck was traveling westbound on State Route 7 when the driver was unable to avoid the pedestrian, who has been identified at 47 year old Angela Kelley of Binghamton. The investigation revealed that Kelley was walking in the westbound lane while dressed in dark clothing and the operator of the pickup was unable to avoid Kelley in the roadway.

48-year-old Jeremy Griffin of Endicott pleaded guilty to felony Assault in Broome County Court. In August, Griffin repeatedly punched a 32-year-old woman in the face, fracturing her jaw, during a domestic dispute at an apartment on East Main Street in Endicott. He was also in violation of a court order of protection prohibiting him from contact with the woman. Griffin has a prior felony conviction for burglary in 1993. He will be sentenced to 4 years in New York State prison on May 16.

The New York State Police today announced that Troopers issued more than 11,800 tickets during a special STOP DWI traffic enforcement period over Super Bowl Weekend. During the campaign which started on Friday, February 10th through Monday February 13th. Troopers arrested 183 people for DWI and investigated 490 crashes, which resulted in 73 people being injured and four fatalities.

Local sales tax collections in New York state increased by 9.2% in January compared to the same month in 2022, according to State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli. Every county experienced some year-over-year growth in January collections, with Delaware County seeing the largest increase at 26%, followed by Schenectady and Cayuga counties.

Governor Hochul recently proposed banning Menthol favored Cigarettes in the Executive Budget proposal, Brad Morrison is the Tobacco Free Chenango Coordinator and he commented about the proposal:

Morrison said that if the proposal becomes law in New York State, they would be the 3rd state to ban menthol flavored cigarettes.

Otsego County Sheriff’s Office arrested 61 year old Michael McBride of Oneonta following a domestic dispute in the Town of Oneonta on February 13th. McBride was charged with Criminal Contempt & Harassment, he is accused of violating an order of protection during the course of a domestic dispute by subjecting the victim to unwanted physical contact, he was being held pending future court action.
