The Broome County District Attorney’s office announced that 68-year-old Alan Geller of Binghamton was found guilty of Forcible Touching. Geller was a Physician’s Assistant who was accused of groping a women patient inappropriately while conducting a physical examination in December of 2021. Geller faces up to 1 year in jail at sentencing.

The Chenango SPCA announced that the Bissell Empty the Shelters adoption special is back this year until December 11th. Bissell is promoting the adoption of cats and dogs from the shelter by donating $25 toward the adoption of cats and $50 toward the adoption of dogs, Donations can be made online at ChenangoSPCA.org/donate, by calling 607-334-9724 extension 7.

State Police arrested 73 year old Brooks Anderson of Albany for Unlawfully Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle. Anderson was observed traveling at a high rate of speed by a trooper on I-88 in Worcester, the trooper attempted a traffic stop but Anderson fled into the town of Oneonta, where he was boxed in by Police vehicles and then refused to exit the vehicle. Anderson was ultimately taken into custody and was processed, he will appear in the Town of Worcester Town Court on December 20th.

The new Oneonta VA Clinic at Foxcare opens today, with full service beginning tomorrow, Peter Potter of the Albany VA clinic told WCDO News that a Doctor will be there on an interim basis until a permanent Doctor is named:

The VA clinic replaces the Bainbridge VA clinic which had experienced a 76% decline in visitations in recent years.

State Police and local law enforcement agencies issued a record 3,062 tickets from April 1 to November 17 of this year as part of Operation Hardhat. Last year, Police issued 2,336 tickets, this year’s tickets, included over 1200 were for speeding, 426 for using a cell phone while driving, 124 were for violating the Move Over Law, 229 tickets were issued in the Southern Tier.

State Health Commissioner Dr. Mary Bassett will resign from the position effective January 1st. Dr. Bassett announced that she will be returning to the Harvard Chan School of Public Health, which will require her to move to Massachusetts, a new Health Commissioner will be chosen shortly.

Vestal Police have arrested an unidentified 17 year old for 2nd degree Manslaughter, Criminal possession of a forged instrument & 3 counts of reckless endangerment, for being the driver of a vehicle that crashed on November 24th. 18 year old Kadin Abdullah was pronounced dead at the scene of that accident.

Law Enforcement agencies are investigating a 1 vehicle accident early Thursday morning in Vestal at Clayton Avenue and Lagrange Street. The initial report suggests that the vehicle left the roadway & struck a fence, 18-year-old Kadin Abdullah of Vestal was a passenger in the vehicle & he was pronounced dead at the scene, the investigation is continuing.

A.M. NEWS Friday 11-25-22

26 year old Kout Akol of Binghamton was convicted for 1st degree manslaughter, criminal possession of a weapon, tampering with physical evidence & endangering the welfare of a child, in Broome County Court Wednesday. Akol was arrested on July 3rd of 2021 for the stabbing death of 27 year old Takecia Mitchell in her Binghamton apartment. Akol faces up to 25 years in prison, he will be sentenced on February 23rd.

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer announced Wednesday the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services has reversed its eligibility criteria for Critical Access Hospital status. The program allows rural healthcare providers to receive federal reimbursements to help ensure they are able to service patients. The rule reversal is expected to go into effect January 1st.
