The Deposit Fire Department and Eastern Broome Emergency Services responded to a house fire in the Town of Sanford, Oquaga Lake Road was closed between Old Route 17 and Hanson Road. No injuries were reported, the structure sustained significant fire damage. Mutual aid was provided by fire fighters from Windsor, West Windsor, Harpursville, Ouaquaga and Afton.

Agriculture in New York state paid close to $1 billion in wages and produced roughly $3.3 billion in gross domestic product in 2021, according to a report by New York State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli. The sector has proved to be among the most resilient during the COVID-19 pandemic, losing just 1% of jobs in 2020 compared to the statewide annual employment loss of 8.7%. Both employment and wages in the farming sector grew in 2021 to reach new highs of 23,868 employees and $970.2 million in wages.

Broome County District Attorney Mike Korchak announced that 32 year old Amanda Hoyt of Binghamton, pleaded guilty to the felony offense of Attempted Burglary in the Second Degree. In January, Hoyt illegally entered a St. Charles Street apartment in the Village of Johnson City and struck the resident in the arm with a hammer causing injury. Hoyt is a Second Violent Felony Offender and will be sentenced to 5 years in state prison on November 15th.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a Fight-in-Progress Complaint in the Hamlet of Arkville on July 16th. Rolland Billadeau of Shandaken allegedly pushed and struck the victim, Billadeau was located on August 21st and was served with a criminal summons on the charge of Harassment in the Second Degree. Billadeau is scheduled to appear before the Town of Middletown Court at a later date to answer for the charge. Sheriff’s Deputies were assisted by members of the New York State Police.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service issued a public health alert for Perdue’s frozen ready-to-eat chicken breast tenders “gluten free”, They may be contaminated with small pieces of clear plastic and blue dye. In the 52nd State Senate District, Lea Webb won the Democratic party nomination, and will face Republican Rich David in November. 29 year old Danielle Migdal of Norwich has been identified as the person who died in a 2 vehicle accident in the Town of Davenport July 6th. Migdal was a passenger in a vehicle on County Highway 10, that entered the intersection of State Route 23, & was struck by a pick up truck, the accident is still under investigation.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Office arrested Jose Juarez-Garrido of New Jersey after Deputies observed a vehicle traveling at 50 mph in a posted 30 mph zone in the Village of Walton Wednesday Morning. Deputies charged Juarez-Garrido with DWI and Driving with BAC of .08% or more, Speeding, & Unlicensed Operator, he was released on appearance tickets and is scheduled to appear in Village of Walton Court at a later date.

The State Department of Labor announced that the number of private sector jobs in the State increased over the month by 19,700, to just under 8 million in June 2022. The number is about 300,000 less than the highest number registered before the COVID 19 pandemic kicked in & the state closed down in 2020. The State’s unemployment rate held steady at 4.4% in June, following 5 consecutive months of decline.

Governor Kathy Hochul announced the opening of the initial intake tool to help small businesses determine their eligibility for the COVID-19 Capital Costs Tax Credit Program. The State Health Department reported a polio case, in Rockland County, it’s the 1st case of Polio in the U.S. in nearly a decade. Officials did not offer details yet on who the resident is, whether the person was vaccinated or their current condition. In 1979, polio was declared eliminated in the U.S., however travelers with polio have brought infections into the U.S., the case was in 2013.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 31 year old Jessie Bolster and 40 year old Roy Bolster of Harpursville after they were stopped in Hancock for Traffic infractions. Jessie Bolster was operating the motor vehicle while having several active suspensions; Roy Bolster was wanted on an active arrest warrant from Tompkins County Family Court. A search of the vehicle revealed the pair were in possession of Oxycodone & bags of crystal methamphetamine. Both were charged with 4 counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Jessie Bolster was additionally charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation. Both were arraigned & were remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility in lieu of $10,000 cash/$20,000 secured bond.

The Otsego County Sheriff’s Department responded Friday to the report of a bear getting hit by a car on State Route 28 in the town of Milford. The unidentified Driver was not injured, the vehicle was towed from the scene and the bear was killed in the collision, which was reported at about 7:20 AM Friday Morning.

State Police executed a residential search warrant at a home in the town of Delancey; they arrested 20 year old David Dotey on 3 felony counts of Promoting Obscene Sexual Performance by a Child, Possessing Obscene Sexual Performance by a Child and Computer Trespass. Dotey is accused of uploading and distributing sexual performance by prepubescent children, he was arraigned and was remanded to the Delaware County Jail on $2,500 cash bail or $5,000 property bond. The case is still under investigation, additional charges are possible.

Governor Cuomo announced $13 million is available for restoration and recovery efforts following the severe storms and flash flooding on August 13-15 that severely impacted communities in the Southern Tier. A new residential assistance program has been created to provide funding to primary homeowners whose damages exceed insurance claims and other available aid. With maximum grants of $50,000, this program will help eliminate the unmet need of homeowners. Applications from homeowners for the residential assistance program will be accepted starting today, the deadline for applications are February 4, 2019.

A woman, who suffered cardiac arrest Friday, is expected to survive after the quick actions of State Troopers and a citizen. A trooper was dispatched to a report of a 70-year-old woman who had collapsed in the lobby of the Richfield Springs Post Office, She was unresponsive when the trooper arrived and a citizen was already performing CPR. Another trooper arrived & administered the Automated External Defibrillator, EMS arrived, and they took the woman to Basset Hospital in Cooperstown. The unidentified woman regained consciousness at the hospital and is expected to recover.

State Police and local law enforcement have increased patrols to crack down on impaired driving and underage drinking through Halloween. The enforcement campaign runs through Thursday and is funded by the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee. During last year’s initiative there were 1,593 accidents, 226 injuries, 1 fatality, Troopers also arrested 248 people for DWI and issued more than 9, 057 tickets for speeding, distracted driving and other traffic violations.

State Police arrested 38 year old Annvernette Ellis of Edmeston for Driving While Intoxicated, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance and Aggravated Unlicensed Operation plus several traffic tickets. A trooper on patrol near the intersection of State Highway 20 and State Highway 8 observed Ellis commit several traffic offenses, a traffic stop was initiated and found Ellis was drinking an alcoholic beverage while driving, she also possessed oxycodone. Ellis was arraigned & was remanded to jail pending future court action.

The Chenango County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a call for a burglary in progress on Morgan Hill Road in the Town of Afton. The caller reported that when he entered his building and unknown individuals fled the scene out the rear door of the building. The Sheriff’s Office K-9 Team & Deputies patrolled the wooded area behind the house, hours later, they arrested 37 year old Jessica Palmatier of Bainbridge, for Criminal Possession of a controlled substance, 3rd degree burglary, and she was arraigned in the Town of Afton Court and remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility on $5,000 cash bail. State police assisted, they arrested the 2nd suspect, 39 year old Jeb Davis of Sidney, and he was charged with 3rd degree burglary & was arraigned in the Town of Afton Court and remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility with no bail.

The Otsego County Sheriff’s department, the Susquehanna Animal Shelter & Southern New York Pig Rescue in Hornell teamed up Monday to remove 4 pigs that were malnourished, from a property on Fisk Road in the town of Morris. Fundraising efforts were underway to have the pigs spayed or neutered by the Cornell University Veterinary program, the name of the owner of the pigs has not been charged, and the investigation is ongoing.

Governor Cuomo signed legislation passed by the Legislature this year, to allow pets to board any public transportation service in the event of a state of emergency and evacuation. The legislation expands existing law; it was changed after issues during Superstorm Sandy, where many pet owners refused to evacuate because they could not take their companion animals with them, which jeopardized the lives of the residents, their pets & emergency personnel attempting to evacuate them.

Governor Cuomo today announced that the Raise the Age law is now in effect, it removes 16-year-olds who have committed a criminal act from the adult criminal justice system and places them in age-appropriate settings. 16-year-olds who are arrested for non-violent offenses will have the same opportunities for diversion and community-based services as youth 15 and under. 16-year-olds charged with serious offenses will be processed as adolescent offenders in a Youth Part of criminal court and placed in specialized secure detention facilities for adolescents instead of adult jails.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 32 year old Matthew Hubbard of Walton for Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle, operating a motor vehicle while registration suspended, and other Vehicle and Traffic law violations. The arrest occurred during the course of an investigation into a disabled vehicle on State Highway 206 in the Village of Walton. Governor Cuomo announced today legislation has been signed to extend the period for workers and volunteers to file a Notice of Participation for lost wage and medical benefits as a result of their involvement in the recovery and clean-up operations after 9/11. Previously, the Governor signed legislation on September 11, 2016 to extend the period for individuals to register under the World Trade Center Disability Law through midnight tonight, the new bill extends the deadline until September 11, 2022.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 38 year old Juan Acevedo of Delhi, Sunday for driving while ability impaired by drugs and unlawful possession of marihuana. Deputies allege that Acevedo was operating a motor vehicle in the Town of Delhi in an impaired condition at a high rate of speed. Acevedo was also issued multiple traffic summons for speeding, uninspected motor vehicle and failure to change address. Governor Cuomo announced a joint effort by state agencies to crack down on underage drinking on college campuses and in college towns as the fall semester begins. The State Liquor Authority and the State DMV, working with local law enforcement agencies, will conduct statewide sweeps of locations holding liquor licenses, including bars, restaurants, liquor stores and grocery stores, looking for fake IDs and illegal sales to minors. The combined enforcement effort will begin immediately, Persons under the age of 21 found to be using fake IDs or false documents with the intent of purchasing alcohol can be arrested and have their license revoked for a minimum of 90 days or up to one year. Businesses charged by the State Liquor Authority with underage sales face civil penalties of up to $10,000 per violation, and repeat offenders also face potential suspension or revocation of their liquor licenses.

Local sales tax collections across New York grew 6% in the first 6 months of 2018, according to a report released today by State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli. Tax collections totaled $8.5 billion compared to $8 billion during the same period last year. The New York State Departments of Health and Agriculture & Markets cautioned New York residents, visitors and farmers about the continued importance of taking measures to protect against ticks, as a new tick species, the “longhorned tick,” was recently discovered in Westchester County. The State Department of Health reported that the longhorned tick has transmitted disease to humans in other parts of the world, and may pose a threat to livestock. The Department of Agriculture and Markets encourages livestock owners and veterinarians to also be vigilant for unusually heavy tick infestations, if longhorned ticks are suspected, farmers should consult with their veterinarians and contact the Department at 518-457-3502.

Former Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos on Tuesday was found guilty of fraud and corruption in a retrial stemming from his efforts to help his son receive a no-show job. His son, Adam Skelos, was also found guilty of eight charges as well. It was the second time Dean and Adam Skelos were found guilty of the charges in a federal courthouse. The faced a retrial this year after their 2016 convictions were tossed following the Supreme Court’s reinterpretation of the definition of theft of honest services.

State Police arrested 2 people after a traffic stop on State Route 12 in Chenango. 31 year old Derrick Jenks of Greene was arrested for 3 counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, 27 year old Leigha Nault of Greene was arrested for 3 counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Unlawful Possession of Marihuana, & Unlawfully Dealing with Fireworks and Possession of a Controlled Substance Outside of Original Container. Nault was operating a vehicle on State Route 12 which was not insured. After an investigation, troopers located marijuana, heroin, LSD, and several different types of illegal fireworks. Nault and Jenks were released on appearance tickets in the town of Chenango Court on July 24th.

Governor Andrew Cuomo has a 51-44% favorability rating among likely general election voters, according to the latest Sienna Poll. Cuomo leads Republican Marcus Molinaro by a 56-37%, Among Democrats, Cuomo leads Cynthia Nixon 61-26%. Nixon leads Molinaro by a 46-35% margin.

NYSEG is reporting several outages following last night’s storm. over 1400 were without power in the town of Guilford, about 330 in the town of New Berlin, & about 345 in the town of Butternuts & Unadilla. Crews are working to restore the power as quickly as possible.

The state Department of Health paid $1.28 billion in unnecessary Medicaid managed care premiums over a nearly six-year period for enrollees who already had private insurance, according to an audit by State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli. About $70.6 million of the premiums were paid to MCOs that were related through some form of ownership to the 3rd-party insurer. DiNapoli recommended DOH: Improve monitoring efforts to prevent and recover the premiums; Implement controls to remove those recipients with 3rd-party health insurance; & Review the managed care premiums, and recover unnecessary payments. Delaware County Sheriff Deputy’s arrested 48 year old Jason Lupo of Delhi for 3rd degree Assault, following a domestic dispute. Lupo was arranged in Town of Delhi Court and released to reappear at a later date.

The Chenango County DPW announced that they will close County Route 37 between County Road 36 & Keach Road in the town of Guilford, on Tuesday May 29th. State Police conducted a traffic stop on I-88 in the town of Milford for a traffic violation. An investigation by Troopers and CNET resulted in the seizure of approximately 4 pounds of marihuana and approximately $3,500 cash. Troopers arrested Javice Lawrence, Ronnie Smith and Toshaun Guthrie of Albany for Criminal Possession of Marihuana, they were arraigned in the Town of Hartwick Court and remanded to the Otsego County Jail.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies, arrested 46 year old James Henderson of Walton, for Reckless Driving, Failure to keep right, moving unsafely from lane, and parking on pavement. Henderson is alleged to have not stopped his vehicle during Walton Police Department’s attempt to execute a traffic stop, after driving erratically, nearly colliding with 3 vehicles. Henderson was arraigned and was remanded to the Delaware County Jail on $10,000 cash bail or $20,000 bond,.

State Senator Jim Seward joined officials from the Village of Cooperstown and the Friends of Doubleday Field to announce a $1 million state grant to help fund major renovations and improvements at Doubleday Field. State Police in Oneonta was notified that a skimming device was found inside the ATM at Community Bank, NA at 4987 State Route 23 in Oneonta. The device was found by a technician who was called to repair the ATM. the skimming device was placed inside the ATM Friday night by unknown older white male wearing glasses, shorts, a ball cap, and a hooded sweatshirt. The same suspect was involved in a similar skimming device incident in Scranton, PA in February. the ATM’s security features may have immediately disabled the ATM, but it is still unknown whether any cards may have been compromised. Anyone with information can contact State Police in Oneonta at 432-4844.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 34 year old James Bellows of Fleischmanns, as a fugitive from justice from McLeod County, Minnesota. Bellows was arraigned at the Town of Delhi Court where he was remanded to the custody of the Delaware County Jail without bail pending extradition from Minnesota.

2 raccoons have tested positive for rabies, one in Andes and the other in Bovina. 1 dog was exposed to a confirmed rabid raccoon in Andes, there were no human exposures, and the dog was not up to date on vaccinations & has begun 6 month quarantine. In Bovina one person was bitten by a confirmed rabid raccoon, that person has begun Rabies Post Exposure Treatment. Rabies clinics in Delaware County will be held Wednesday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Town of Stamford Garage, June 6th from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the Town of Tompkins Highway Garage, in Trout Creek & June 13th from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Town of Walton Highway Garage.
