The Deposit Fire Department and Eastern Broome Emergency Services responded to a house fire in the Town of Sanford, Oquaga Lake Road was closed between Old Route 17 and Hanson Road. No injuries were reported, the structure sustained significant fire damage. Mutual aid was provided by fire fighters from Windsor, West Windsor, Harpursville, Ouaquaga and Afton.

Broome County District Attorney Mike Korchak announced that 32 year old Amanda Hoyt of Binghamton, pleaded guilty to the felony offense of Attempted Burglary in the Second Degree. In January, Hoyt illegally entered a St. Charles Street apartment in the Village of Johnson City and struck the resident in the arm with a hammer causing injury. Hoyt is a Second Violent Felony Offender and will be sentenced to 5 years in state prison on November 15th.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a Fight-in-Progress Complaint in the Hamlet of Arkville on July 16th. Rolland Billadeau of Shandaken allegedly pushed and struck the victim, Billadeau was located on August 21st and was served with a criminal summons on the charge of Harassment in the Second Degree. The State Health Department reported a polio case, in Rockland County, it’s the 1st case of Polio in the U.S. in nearly a decade. Officials did not offer details yet on who the resident is, whether the person was vaccinated or their current condition. Governor Cuomo announced $13 million is available for restoration and recovery efforts following the severe storms and flash flooding on August 13-15 that severely impacted communities in the Southern Tier. A new residential assistance program has been created to provide funding to primary homeowners whose damages exceed insurance claims and other available aid. With maximum grants of $50,000, this program will help eliminate the unmet need of homeowners. A woman, who suffered cardiac arrest Friday, is expected to survive after the quick actions of State Troopers and a citizen. A trooper was dispatched to a report of a 70-year-old woman who had collapsed in the lobby of the Richfield Springs Post Office, She was unresponsive when the trooper arrived and a citizen was already performing CPR. Another trooper arrived & administered the Automated External Defibrillator, EMS arrived, and they took the woman to Basset Hospital in Cooperstown. The unidentified woman regained consciousness at the hospital and is expected to recover.

State Police and local law enforcement have increased patrols to crack down on impaired driving and underage drinking through Halloween. The enforcement campaign runs through Thursday and is funded by the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee. During last year’s initiative there were 1,593 accidents, 226 injuries, 1 fatality, Troopers also arrested 248 people for DWI and issued more than 9, 057 tickets for speeding, distracted driving and other traffic violations.

State Police arrested 38 year old Annvernette Ellis of Edmeston for Driving While Intoxicated, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance and Aggravated Unlicensed Operation plus several traffic tickets. A trooper on patrol near the intersection of State Highway 20 and State Highway 8 observed Ellis commit several traffic offenses, a traffic stop was initiated and found Ellis was drinking an alcoholic beverage while driving, she also possessed oxycodone. Ellis was arraigned & was remanded to jail pending future court action.

The Chenango County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a call for a burglary in progress on Morgan Hill Road in the Town of Afton. The caller reported that when he entered his building and unknown individuals fled the scene out the rear door of the building. The Sheriff’s Office K-9 Team & Deputies patrolled the wooded area behind the house, hours later, they arrested 37 year old Jessica Palmatier of Bainbridge, for Criminal Possession of a controlled substance, 3rd degree burglary, and she was arraigned in the Town of Afton Court and remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility on $5,000 cash bail. State police assisted, they arrested the 2nd suspect, 39 year old Jeb Davis of Sidney, and he was charged with 3rd degree burglary & was arraigned in the Town of Afton Court and remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility with no bail.

The Otsego County Sheriff’s department, the Susquehanna Animal Shelter & Southern New York Pig Rescue in Hornell teamed up Monday to remove 4 pigs that were malnourished, from a property on Fisk Road in the town of Morris. Fundraising efforts were underway to have the pigs spayed or neutered by the Cornell University Veterinary program, the name of the owner of the pigs has not been charged, and the investigation is ongoing.

Governor Cuomo signed legislation passed by the Legislature this year, to allow pets to board any public transportation service in the event of a state of emergency and evacuation. Governor Cuomo today announced that the Raise the Age law is now in effect, it removes 16-year-olds who have committed a criminal act from the adult criminal justice system and places them in age-appropriate settings. 16-year-olds who are arrested for non-violent offenses will have the same opportunities for diversion and community-based services as youth 15 and under. 16-year-olds charged with serious offenses will be processed as adolescent offenders in a Youth Part of criminal court and placed in specialized secure detention facilities for adolescents instead of adult jails.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 32 year old Matthew Hubbard of Walton for Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle, operating a motor vehicle while registration suspended, and other Vehicle and Traffic law violations. Governor Cuomo announced today legislation has been signed to extend the period for workers and volunteers to file a Notice of Participation for lost wage and medical benefits as a result of their involvement in the recovery and clean-up operations after 9/11. Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 43 year old Christopher Candanedo of Queens for False Personation, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation, and Unlawful Possession of Marihuana, after a traffic stop on County Highway 16 in the Town of Delhi. During the traffic stop Candanedo had given Deputy’s a false date of birth, which further investigation revealed that his driving privileges had been revoked. Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 38 year old Juan Acevedo of Delhi, Sunday for driving while ability impaired by drugs and unlawful possession of marihuana. Deputies allege that Acevedo was operating a motor vehicle in the Town of Delhi in an impaired condition at a high rate of speed. Governor Cuomo announced a joint effort by state agencies to crack down on underage drinking on college campuses and in college towns as the fall semester begins. The State Liquor Authority and the State DMV, working with local law enforcement agencies, will conduct statewide sweeps of locations holding liquor licenses, including bars, restaurants, liquor stores and grocery stores, looking for fake IDs and illegal sales to minors. The combined enforcement effort will begin immediately, Persons under the age of 21 found to be using fake IDs or false documents with the intent of purchasing alcohol can be arrested and have their license revoked for a minimum of 90 days or up to one year. Businesses charged by the State Liquor Authority with underage sales face civil penalties of up to $10,000 per violation, and repeat offenders also face potential suspension or revocation of their liquor licenses.

Former Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos on Tuesday was found guilty of fraud and corruption in a retrial stemming from his efforts to help his son receive a no-show job. His son, Adam Skelos, was also found guilty of eight charges as well. It was the second time Dean and Adam Skelos were found guilty of the charges in a federal courthouse. The faced a retrial this year after their 2016 convictions were tossed following the Supreme Court’s reinterpretation of the definition of theft of honest services.

State Police arrested 2 people after a traffic stop on State Route 12 in Chenango. 31 year old Derrick Jenks of Greene was arrested for 3 counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, 27 year old Leigha Nault of Greene was arrested for 3 counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Unlawful Possession of Marihuana, & Unlawfully Dealing with Fireworks and Possession of a Controlled Substance Outside of Original Container. Nault was operating a vehicle on State Route 12 which was not insured. After an investigation, troopers located marijuana, heroin, LSD, and several different types of illegal fireworks. Nault and Jenks were released on appearance tickets in the town of Chenango Court on July 24th.

On Friday evening, July 6, 2018, members of the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office, State Police, including K-9 units, and the Village of Walton Police Department conducted an Enhanced Traffic Safety Enforcement Campaign in the Village of Walton and surrounding area towns. This campaign resulted in a total of 57 traffic summonses being issued. The collaborative detail resulted in the following arrests: 4 Arrests for Driving While Intoxicated; 2 Arrests for Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated; 1 Arrest for Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle; 4 Arrests for Unlawful Possession of Marihuana; 1 Arrest for Reckless Driving & 1Unlawfully Fleeing a Police Officer.

The Village of Unadilla was awarded funds under the Small Cities Community Development Block Grant Program, for $375,000 to provide a Village-Wide Owner-Occupied Housing Rehabilitation Program. The state Department of Health paid $1.28 billion in unnecessary Medicaid managed care premiums over a nearly six-year period for enrollees who already had private insurance, according to an audit by State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli. About $70.6 million of the premiums were paid to MCOs that were related through some form of ownership to the 3rd-party insurer. DiNapoli recommended DOH: Improve monitoring efforts to prevent and recover the premiums; Implement controls to remove those recipients with 3rd-party health insurance; & Review the managed care premiums, and recover unnecessary payments. State Police conducted a traffic stop on I-88 in the town of Milford for a traffic violation. An investigation by Troopers and CNET resulted in the seizure of approximately 4 pounds of marihuana and approximately $3,500 cash. Troopers arrested Javice Lawrence, Ronnie Smith and Toshaun Guthrie of Albany for Criminal Possession of Marihuana, they were arraigned in the Town of Hartwick Court and remanded to the Otsego County Jail.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies, arrested 46 year old James Henderson of Walton, for Reckless Driving, Failure to keep right, moving unsafely from lane, and parking on pavement. Henderson is alleged to have not stopped his vehicle during Walton Police Department’s attempt to execute a traffic stop, after driving erratically, nearly colliding with 3 vehicles. Henderson was arraigned and was remanded to the Delaware County Jail on $10,000 cash bail or $20,000 bond,.

State Police in Oneonta was notified that a skimming device was found inside the ATM at Community Bank, NA at 4987 State Route 23 in Oneonta. The device was found by a technician who was called to repair the ATM. the skimming device was placed inside the ATM Friday night by unknown older white male wearing glasses, shorts, a ball cap, and a hooded sweatshirt. The same suspect was involved in a similar skimming device incident in Scranton, PA in February. the ATM’s security features may have immediately disabled the ATM, but it is still unknown whether any cards may have been compromised. 2 raccoons have tested positive for rabies, one in Andes and the other in Bovina. 1 dog was exposed to a confirmed rabid raccoon in Andes, there were no human exposures, and the dog was not up to date on vaccinations & has begun 6 month quarantine. In Bovina one person was bitten by a confirmed rabid raccoon, that person has begun Rabies Post Exposure Treatment.
