The State Department of Labor announced that the number of private sector jobs in the State increased over the month by 19,700, to just under 8 million in June 2022. The number is about 300,000 less than the highest number registered before the COVID 19 pandemic kicked in & the state closed down in 2020. The State’s unemployment rate held steady at 4.4% in June, following 5 consecutive months of decline.

The Delaware County Chamber of Commerce will host a New York 19th Congressional Candidate Forum with a question and answer session featuring Republican candidate Marcus Molinaro and Democratic candidate Patrick Ryan. Both candidates are looking to fill the seat vacated by Antonio Delgado, who now serves as the New York Lieutenant Governor. The event will be held on August 4th from 6:30 to 8:00 PM at the Roscoe Beer Company Garden, on 145 Rockland Road. The special election will be held on August 23rd.

Governor Kathy Hochul announced the opening of the initial intake tool to help small businesses determine their eligibility for the COVID-19 Capital Costs Tax Credit Program. The $250 million COVID-19 Capital Costs Tax Credit Program will support small businesses that made investments to comply with emergency orders and regulations or to increase public safety in response to COVID-19. If deemed eligible by the screening tool, a link to the application will be provided when the program application opens. The Screening Tool Available online at formrouter.apps.esd.ny.gov.

The State Health Department reported a polio case, in Rockland County, it’s the 1st case of Polio in the U.S. in nearly a decade. Officials did not offer details yet on who the resident is, whether the person was vaccinated or their current condition. In 1979, polio was declared eliminated in the U.S., however travelers with polio have brought infections into the U.S., the case was in 2013.

Friends of Recovery of Delaware and Otsego Counties announced that they have the first Narcan vending machine available locally. The vending machine offers Naloxone kits that with 2 doses of Narcan nasal spray, it is located at The Turning Point of Otsego County at 22 Elm Street in Oneonta.

Upstate Shredding’s Southern Tier Tuesday’s philanthropic team announced that Getthere Mobility Management is this week’s winner of a $2,000 grant. Getthere is a program from the Rural Health Network of South Central New York to get people to appointments who have no other way to get to them.
