Broome County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 35 year old Devyn Wilcox of Harpursville on 27 counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child & 1 count of disorderly conduct on Thursday. Deputies responded Thursday afternoon to the Harpursville School District Bus, Wilcox is accused of entering the stopped bus and began yelling, screaming, swearing and threatening juveniles, according to witnesses & video. There were 30 students from elementary school to high school ages on the bus. Wilcox was taken into custody without incident at his residence, he was processed at the Broome County Sheriff’s Correctional Facility and released on appearance tickets for the Town of Colesville Court at a later date. The investigation is continuing.

The 5th Annual Matthews Auto Walkathon on October 7th was a huge success, despite torrential rain, and a record breaking $129,798 was raised for 10 local kid’s charities. The Sidney Central School Observatory will be open tonight 9:00-10:00 PM after the Sidney football game. In the event of cloudy skies or inclement weather, the session will be canceled. The Observatory is located behind the high school building, go past the main entrance of the gymnasium and turn right past the pool & follow the road to the lower back parking lot.

The fire was reported at about 6:30 last Wednesday Night, one woman died in that fire, her name has not yet been released, the investigation is continuing.

The Broome County Sheriff’s Department announced that 17-year-old Ali Masland was reported missing from her residence on West Chenango Road in the Town of Chenango late Wednesday afternoon. Masland is described as 5’2, 100 pounds with brown hair and black eyes, she wears glasses and she has developmental disabilities and may be carrying a backpack. Anyone with information on Masland is asked to contact the Broome County Sheriff’s Office at 778-1911.

Induction Weekend events kick off Friday at Sidney Alumni Field when all honorees are announced at halftime of the Sidney versus Walton football game, following the game, all inductees, Sidney alumni and their guests are invited to a get-together at the Sidney VFW. Governor Cuomo signed legislation passed by the Legislature, to protect barbershops, beauty shops and salon service providers against individuals who steal their services. The new law will make it a class A misdemeanor, for those who fail to pay for services provided by a barbershop, salon, or beauty shop. Under previous law, an individual who knowingly failed to pay for those services was not subject to criminal prosecution, leaving certain small business owners at risk of financial loss with little recourse.
