Plans are going forward regarding the Norwich Downtown Boutique Hotel project on South Broad Street, Commerce Chenango President & CEO Kerri Green visited WCDO Today & gave an update regarding the timeline:

Green also said that a 6th meeting of the Norwich DRI Local Planning Committee will be held on Tuesday, at 3:00 PM in the Community Room of Commerce Chenango at 15 South Broad Street in Norwich, to continue the Committee’s discussion and review of potential projects for inclusion in Norwich’s Strategic Investment Plan. This meeting is open to all members of the public, with time reserved at the end of the meeting for public comment. The meeting will also be available on ZOOM.

The Raymond Corporation is celebrating their 100th Anniversary this month, President & CEO Michael Field told WCDO News about the origins of the company:

Field Said that they will have a celebration next Tuesday which will feature the unveiling of their 100th Anniversary Exhibit, which will tour the County, Country & even into Mexico in the coming year. The Oneonta Fire Department responded to a truck fire on Grand Street Wednesday Afternoon. The engine was fully engulfed when firefighters arrived, the driver escaped without injury, there were no injuries among firefighters reported.

The New York City Department of Environmental Protection announced today that they are not in a position to shutdown the Delaware Aqueduct this fall as originally planned. The schedule is now planned for October 1, 2023 through May 31, 2024, the new timeline will ensure that the DEP completes and tests new system configurations and that outside communities are also prepared for the shutdown.

A.M. NEWS THURSDAY 6-9-22

The Oneonta Police Department is seeking public help in the murder on May 30th of 24 year old Kaleb O’Neill of Oneonta. O’Neill was found with stab wounds in the alley near 6 Dietz Street, he was declared dead after being transported to A.O. Fox Hospital. Anyone with additional information on the investigation is asked to contact the Oneonta Police Department Detective Division at 607-432-1111.

The Village of Sidney announced that the Water service was restored to residents & businesses downtown last night. Superintendent of Public Works Brandon McEwan told WCDO that the Main Street Bridge will remain closed until further notice, as they continue to assess the need for repairs.

Officials announced the new name of the former NYSEG Stadium on Henry Street in Binghamton to Mirabito Stadium today. State Police and local law enforcement statewide will increase patrols to combat drunk, impaired, and reckless driving throughout Memorial Day weekend. The enforcement period started today and runs through Tuesday, June 1st. Memorial Day is one of the busiest travel holidays of the year and Drivers can expect to see sobriety checkpoints and increased patrols by State Police and local law enforcement agencies. Last year, Police issued over 8,000 Tickets over the Memorial Day Holiday Weekend.

On Saturday, The Rolling Antiquers will be holding a free vintage car cruise-in at East Park in Norwich, from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. East Park Place Street will be cordoned off, with the capacity to hold 40 cars, cars will be rotated throughout the day, COVID guidelines will be followed.

Temporary lane closures for road and bridge construction projects on State highways will be suspended until Tuesday, to ease travel throughout Memorial Day weekend. Road work may continue behind permanent concrete barriers or for emergency repairs. Motorists are also urged to abide by New York’s Move Over Law and to utilize the 64 text stops located statewide for texting, making phone calls, and other non-driving tasks.

Delaware County Public Health released their weekly COVID 19 report, with 14 new cases 16 active cases 2 hospitalized, and 69 quarantined, they report 2385 total cases and 47 deaths since the start of the pandemic.

Chenango County Public Health confirmed the 77th death from COVID 19 in the County.  The county has 33 active cases, 119 quarantined, & 1 hospitalized.  There have been 3458 total confirmed cases in Chenango County of the virus, with 3261 recoveries.

Sidney Village Police are investigating the painting of a religious slur on a trash container at a building on Cartwright Avenue that is owned by Village Mayor Andy Matviak and rented to a Muslim owned business, Matviak talked to WCDO news about the incident:

Mayor Matviak said that so far, no arrests have been made.

State Police arrested 29 year old Kyle Vansteensburg of Ohio, was wanted by the Cuyohoga County Sheriff’s Office in Ohio for Attempted Unlawful Sexual Conduct with a Minor after he was one of 27 men arrested in an undercover sting by Ohio’s Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.    Vansteensburg was found to be a passenger in a vehicle that was stopped by troopers for vehicle and traffic violations on State Route 23 in the Town of Oneonta.   Vansteensburg was arraigned in the Town of Oneonta court and remanded to the Otsego Jail without bail, pending an extradition hearing back to Ohio.

State Police reported that 15 year old Adrianna Leidecker was located in Steuben County by Troopers, She was returned to the custody of her parent.  Leidecker has had a recent history of running away from her home.
