Sidney Police Department received report of an armed robbery Friday Afternoon at about 1:35 PM at Smiley’s at 17 West Main Street. The suspect displayed a Handgun, demanded cash, he was wearing a black and purple wig, blue Oneonta YellowJackets hooded sweatshirt and pink slippers. The suspect left went hrough yards, left behind the disguises and left in a Silver Subaru parked on Adams Street, & left the village. The suspect is a bald or balding, heavy set white male over 6 feet tall. The Susquehanna Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals has received a $5,000 grant investment from national nonprofit Petco Love in support of its lifesaving work on behalf of animals in Otsego County through clinics aimed at expanding access for animals who need care. 39 year old Timothy Jarczynski of Maryland pleaded guilty to DWI in Davenport Town Court & was sentenced to a 1-year conditional discharge. On September 28, 2022, a citizen called 911 to report an erratic driver on State Route 23, after following Jarczynski for approximately 10 minutes, he crashed into a ditch where a State Trooper determined that Jarczynski was impaired at the time of the accident. Jarczynski was sentenced to a 1-year conditional discharge and his license was revoked, he was ordered to attend a victim impact panel and successfully complete the impaired driver’s program, If he obtains a driver’s license, he will be required to install an ignition interlock device in any vehicle he owns or operates, he could still face 1 year in jail if he violates any of these conditions.

45 year old Katrina Lott of West Edmeston pleaded guilty to Driving While Intoxicated and was sentenced to 3 years of probation, in Deposit Town Court last week. On June 13, 2023, Lott was driving on County Route 8, when she lost control of her vehicle and drove into the ditch. A State Trooper responded to the crash scene and determined that Lott was likely under the influence of alcohol when open containers were spotted in the vehicle. Lott had a BAC of .16% – two times the legal limit.

Syracuse Police Officers encountered a suspicious vehicle Sunday Night, they attempted a traffic stop & the vehicle took off, officers did get the License plate number, it was traced to a Liverpool address to stop the vehicle, Syracuse Police & Onondaga Sheriff’s Deputies responded & were encountered by an armed male and an exchange of gunfire followed. The Acco Brands plant in Sidney is being sold, Acco Officials said that the company signed a non-binding letter of intent to sell the building to a renewable energy company, if the building is sold in 2024, operations would continue in Sidney throughout much of 2024. On April 6th Deputies responded to an iPhone Crash Detection for a motor vehicle accident on State Highway 28 in the Town of Meredith. Deputies found the motor vehicle accident, 2 of the occupants were transported for non-life-threatening injuries to a local hospital, while 2 others were treated by EMS. Last Wednesday, Oneonta Police Department was called to investigate a reported gunshot wound by A.O. Fox hospital emergency room staff. Officers learned that 51-year-old John Walley of Otego was transported to the hospital by a third party in a private vehicle, which left before police arrived. Walley was interviewed briefly and stated that he was on Chestnut Street when he was injured by a bullet, no evidence at the scene was found, he was re-interviewed & has refused to cooperate. The case will be closed but may be re-opened should additional information be received and the victim agree to cooperate. State Police arrested 28 year old Benjamin Truitt of Marathon Tuesday for Grand Larceny. Truitt was arrested after an investigation of a report of a jet ski and trailer stolen in April from outside a residence in Marathon. Truitt allegedly hooked the trailer and jet ski to a vehicle and removed it from the property then putting it in the backyard of a residence on Front Street. The trailer and jet ski were ultimately returned to the owner. State Police arrested 51-year-old Lauren Brooks, of West Edmeston, following an investigation and subsequent indictment by the Steuben County Grand Jury, for contact he had with a minor child. The incidents of contact occurred while Brooks resided in the town of Corning from 2012-2016, he was arraigned for Course of Sexual Conduct Against a Child, Endangering the Welfare of a Child, and 298 counts of Criminal Sexual Act, 90 counts of 2nd degree Rape and 28 counts of 3rd degree Rape. Brooks was remanded to the Steuben County Jail in lieu of $10,000 cash bail $20,000 property bond. The investigation is continuing, and anyone who may have been a victim of Brooks and has not come forward, can contact the State Police at 607-962-3282.

Broome County District Attorney’s office announced that 23-year-old Muhammad Aziz was sentenced to five years in New York State prison and five years post release supervision after pleading guilty to criminal possession of a weapon, back on June 15th, State Police executed a search warrant at Aziz’s residence in Johnson City, they seized cocaine and methamphetamine, along with an illegal and loaded .9 mm pistol. The DA’s Office also announced that 34-year-old Michael Perez was sentenced to two to four years in New York State prison after pleading guilty to attempted criminal possession of a weapon, back on November 5th, 2021, Perez assaulted and threatened a United Health Services Security Officer with a knife outside of a UHS medical facility in Binghamton.

The Madison County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an accident that killed an Otsego County man Sunday morning. The Delaware County Sheriff’s & Sidney Police arrested 3 people in the Village of Sidney Thursday following narcotics trafficking investigation conducted. Arrested were 22 year old Harry Ramirez of Sidney and Bronx with 2 charges of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance and one charge of 3rd degree Robbery. Ramirez is accused of forcibly stealing money from a cooperating witness, was found to possess a quantity of heroin with intent to sell. Police conducted a search of Ramirez’, Sidney residence, 44 year old Dawn Beta, and 29 year old Jasmine Santiago of Valley Stream, are accused of possessing and unsuccessfully attempted to flush and destroy heroin. Beta and Santiago were charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance & Tampering. Police seized heroin, liquid PCP, hypodermic instruments and more than $1000 cash. All were arraigned, Ramirez were remanded to the Delaware County Jail on $350,000 cash bail. Beta and Santiago were each remanded on $250,000 cash bail pending further court action.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a reported bomb threat at DCMO BOCES Harold Campus in the Town of Masonville Thursday. A written threat to the building was located in a bathroom, students were evacuated & The Delaware County Sheriff’s Office and State Police Explosives Detection K9 unit searched the school and were unable to locate explosives. 16-year-old Andrew Slentz of New Berlin was arrested for 1st degree filing a False Report; he was arraigned in the Town of Masonville Court and remanded to the Delaware County Jail on $500 cash bail. Troopers will sobriety checkpoints, & they will be watching for distracted drivers, vehicle occupants who are not buckled up and drivers violating the “Move Over Law”. Nearly 200 new state troopers graduated from the police academy yesterday as part of the State Police graduation ceremony. Hanna said the new “Hours of Service” rule could result in an annual cost of $376 million to the trucking industry and could delay timely delivery of food, retail and construction products. Hanna has introduced a bill to delay the regulation until an independent assessment of the rule is complete.

Governor Cuomo’s popularity is moving upward, according to a new poll from Siena College out today. The Siena poll found 65% of registered voters found Cuomo’s performance was favorable up 7% from the June poll numbers, while 30% found Cuomo’s job performance unfavorable. Among the Upstate voters polled, 55% said that Cuomo’s performance was favorable, with 41% choosing unfavorable.

A motorcyclist was killed Sunday when a nearby car hit a deer, sending it airborne and into the path of the motorcycle. Madison County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the accident on state route 8 in the Town of Brookfield Sunday, they reported that 31-year-old Phurba Tamang, of Utica was driving on Route 8 when she hit a deer, which became airborne and struck a motorcycle driven by 49 year old Cyle Chesebro of West Edmeston, Chesebro was pronounced dead at the scene.

Delaware County Deputies investigated a car & pedestrian accident on County Hwy 21 in the Town of Walton. 60-year-old David Gomez of the Bronx was traveling on County Highway 21 near Runion Road Thursday, when he had struck 37 year old William Caputo of Walton, who was walking down the center of the road. No tickets were issued to Gomez and Caputo was transported to Bassett hospital in Cooperstown for treatment of injuries.
