Sidney Police responded to a trespassing complaint on March 17th at a vacant home on Ritton Street in the Village. During the investigation it was learned that a male involved in the case had an active arrest warrant issued by Delaware County Family Court. 41 year old James Nash was arrested on a Delaware County Family Court warrant & was then turned over to the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office.

Wegmans has issued a voluntary recall for select store brand pre-cut fruit due to possible listeria contamination. Certain Wergman’s brands of Watermelon, Pineapple, Cantalopes & Melons are part of the recall, the items may be returned to the Customer Service desk for a full refund. The Madison County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an accident that killed an Otsego County man Sunday morning. The crash happened around 4:45 a.m. Sunday in the town of Brookfield, deputies found a Jeep Cherokee off the road and overturned partially in a creek. 36-year-old Travis Chesebro of West Edmeston was pronounced dead at the scene, the investigation is ongoing.

Governor Kathy Hochul reported that the State Health Department is closely monitoring BA.2 variant of COVID 19 as the positivity rate has increased over the last several days. On Sunday, the rate increased back up to 1.98%, 901 Patients are Hospitalized, there are 159 in an ICU with 71 on ventilators, 6 died in hospitals & nursing homes Sunday from the virus.

Today is “National Agriculture Day” a day to celebrate the importance of the American Farm, Chenango County Farm Bureau President Bradd Vickers told WCDO News that the number of farms continues to trend downward:

Vickers said that Agriculture has contributed more than 5.7 billion dollars to New York State’s economy, there are 33,400 farms in the State with 6,900,000 acres of operated farmland, more information is available at ccfbny.org.

The annual St. Baldrick’s fundraiser in Chenango County shattered last year’s record of $38,315, by bringing in over $52,000 Saturday. 40 participants shaved their heads, in solidarity with children enduring cancer treatments, Saturday’s event was dedicated to 6 year old Trinity O’Connor, of Sidney, who recently passed away following a 4 year battle with cancer.
