49 Year old William Danielson of Oxford was sentenced Monday in Chenango County Court, to 20 years to life in prison. Danielson pleaded guilty to one count of 2nd degree murder, for the December 2013 death of his former girlfriend Lucinda Knoll of Norwich.

A Syracuse resident was arrested by the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office for an active arrest warrant for Grand Larceny and Burglary. 25 year old Kristen Seamans is accused of stealing several items from the Norwich Wal-Mart in 2014; she was arraigned in the Town of Norwich court and is being held at the Chenango County Correctional Facility on $1000 cash bail.

The Delaware County Sheriff’s department arrested 31-year-old Sean Dingle of Queens on drug charges, following the execution of a search warrant in the Town of Sidney. The warrant was obtained following a 5-month heroin trafficking investigation conducted by the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office, the Sidney Police Department, Delaware County Probation Department and the Broome County Special Investigations Task Force. Dingle was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance with intent to sell & Unlawful Possession of Marihuana after seizing 100 bags of heroin & a small amount of marijuana, that Dingle intended to sell at the Unadilla public fishing access lot in Sidney. Dingle was arraigned in Town of Sidney Court & was remanded to the Delaware County Jail without bail pending a future court appearance.

The Otsego County Department of Health announced today that a skunk in the town of Otego tested positive for rabies. Otsego County Health Department officials stated that 2 unvaccinated dogs were exposed & will be euthanized, the skunk was shot and the remains were sent to the state lab for testing. A free rabies clinic is scheduled for Otego at the fire department on October 7th from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.

The State DEC has adopted amendments to update and consolidate Petroleum Bulk Storage and Chemical Bulk Storage regulations. Governor Cuomo today announced $20 million is available for the construction of new affordable housing units damaged by Superstorm Sandy, Hurricane Irene or Tropical Storm Lee. The State DOT announced that traffic will be stopped tomorrow around the Prospect Mountain Construction project, as 2 bridges over the Chenango River will be brought down with controlled blasts. Officials stated that Beginning at about 10:15 AM, State Police will have the traffic in the area slowed down or stopped for about 15 minutes on I-81 south at exit 6. I-81 North at exit 2, State Route 17 East at exit 71 & I-88 west at exit 2. Governor Cuomo today signed “Amanda Lynn’s Law,” to strengthen penalties against those who seek to unlawfully conceal or dispose of a body. The measure is named after a Western New York woman who died under questionable circumstances in 2009 & whose body was hidden in a garbage can to avoid discovery. Current law only regulates the manner in which cemeteries, funeral directors, and medical professionals can dispose of remains and fails to address situations where they are intentionally concealed, altered, or destroyed to prevent its discovery. The new law makes this offense an E felony punishable by up to four years in prison and up to a $5,000 fine.

48-year-old William Danielson of Preston pleaded not guilty to 5 felony counts in Chenango County Court this morning. The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office accused Danielson of attacking his former girlfriend Lucinda Knoll in front of their son at the Maple Grove Trailer Park in Norwich on December 27th, she died from injuries sustained in the attack 2 days later. State police in Deposit arrested 25-year-old O’Neil Bower of Rochester for aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and unlawful possession of marihuana. The arrest followed a stop for speeding at 81 miles an hour in 55 miles an hour zone on State Route 17 in Hancock. Troopers discovered that Bower had a driver license that was suspended 9 times, they also found to Bower unlawfully possessed marihuana. Bower was arraigned in the Village of Hancock Court and released after paying his $100 cash bail.

State police in Oneonta arrested 21-year-old Brittany Alfarano of Oneonta for driving while intoxicated with a reportable BAC result of .15%. The arrest resulted from investigating a 1-car accident on Interstate 88 in Oneonta; troopers accuse Alfarano of also texting on her cell phone when she crashed. She was issued tickets returnable in the Town of Oneonta Court on January 28th.

State Police received a missing person report on 74-year-old Marvin Taub of Oneonta, after he had picked up his neighbor’s dogs to walk them at the Pine Lake Campus of Hartwick College in Davenport. Taub’s vehicle was located in the parking lot; State Police, Forest Rangers, Hartwick College Public Safety and Davenport Fire & EMS conducted a search. Crews located tracks leading to a frozen pond, where Taub’s body was discovered & removed. The death was ruled as accidental, the cause listed as drowning & hypothermia.

State received a missing person report on 74-year-old Ira Landess and 71-year-old Nancy Klinger-Landess of Harpersfield. The Investigation revealed that both were missing along with their German Shepherd, a search of their property revealed a large ice hole in a frozen pond on the couple’s property with a dog toy near the hole. State police Scuba Divers searched the pond, Ira Landess’s body was recovered, and the cause of death was accidental drowning & hypothermia. Mrs. Landess’ body was recovered on Wednesday, along with her dog, her death was also ruled accidental due to drowning & hypothermia.

The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested 29-year-old Jeremy Cruz of Greene for Felony Criminal Mischief following an incident in the Town of Greene. The victim had filed a complaint that a tenant had drilled a hole into the bottom of a fuel oil tank causing the fuel oil to leak out. Cruz was charged and was issued an appearance ticket for the Town of Greene Court and will appear at a later date.

Many new laws went into effect on Wednesday. The Small Business Income Tax Reduction goes into effect this year. This will be the 1st year of a 3-year phased-in tax cut. Also. The state’s minimum wage increased to $8.00 an hour, it was coupled with a new Minimum Wage Reimbursement Tax Credit to help offset some of the increased wage costs for businesses.

Binghamton City police are looking for a suspect following a new years day stabbing on Downs Avenue in Binghamton. Officers were called to the scene at about 3:00 Wednesday morning and found a 30-year-old man had been stabbed in the chest multiple times, following an argument. The unidentified victim was taken to an area hospital and is recuperating following surgery, the investigation is continuing.

The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office and Norwich Police Department participated in a joint agency DWI sobriety checkpoint on Rexford St in the City of Norwich. Arrested were 42-year-old Angus Cullipher of Oxford for Driving while Intoxicated, Driving with a BAC over .08 and open container in a motor vehicle. Cullipher was released to a sober 3rd party & was issued citations for the Town of Norwich court. Deputies also arrested 19-year-old Neilen Barker of New Berlin for Operating a motor vehicle while ability impaired by drugs and Unlawful possession of marihuana. 62-year-old Barry Renert waived extradition in Virginia; he was arrested in Richmond Virginia following the attack on a Cooperstown shopkeeper last Monday. Renert is accused of threatening the owner of Seventh Inning Stretch with a gun and the owner fired his own weapon in self-defense. No one was hurt. Assembly speaker Sheldon Silver wants to accelerate the state’s scheduled minimum wage increase to $9 by 2015 & tie it to the inflation rate. The Assembly passed a bill this year to raise New York’s minimum wage for most workers from $7.25 to $9 with inflation adjustments. A compromise approved by the Assembly, Senate and governor’s office raised the rate to $8 for 2014, $8.75 a year later and to $9 in 2016 without inflation adjustments.

The NY State of Health reported that 480,911 New Yorkers have completed their applications and 241,522 people have enrolled for health insurance coverage. Governor Cuomo today announced that nearly $500,000 in job training grants is still available to businesses that hire long-term unemployed New Yorkers. This funding is available through the On-the-Job Training National Emergency Grant , to get those who have been out of work for 26 weeks or longer connect to available jobs in their region. Businesses received an average of nearly $7,000 per hire, in the Southern Tier Region, 124 businesses have already hired 197 workers under the program.

Nearly a year after passage of the state’s new gun law, dealer sales of AR-15 semi-automatic rifles have ended in New York, and arrest data show more than 1,000 gun possession charges were boosted from misdemeanors to felonies because of the changes. 59 people were charged statewide for possessing large-capacity magazines. A report from the Division of Criminal Justice Services shows only one person charged with the illegal sale or transfer of a gun defined as an assault weapon as of mid-December. Owners may keep their older weapons but must register them by April 15th.

Binghamton Police arrested 3 people in connection with a drive-by shooting Last Thursday. Police responded to 57 Rush Avenue Thursday afternoon to the report of shots fired at an individual on a porch, Friday, police arrested 35 year old James Durham and 35 year old Celene Thompson of Binghamton, and 39 year old Lance Johnson of Johnson City were each charged with 1st degree attempted assault. No one was injured in Thursday’s attack.

Chenango county deputies arrested 49-year-old Terry Chapman of Norwich for Driving While Intoxicated. Chapman was arrested following an investigation into a Domestic Dispute in the Town of Oxford. During a subsequent traffic stop in the Town of Norwich, Chapman is accused of operating a motor vehicle while impaired by alcohol. Chapman was taken into custody without incident, processed, and released to appear in the Town of Norwich Court at a later date.
