The Chenango County Sheriff’s department continues to gather evidence in the murder case of Lucinda Knoll of Norwich, who was allegedly beaten in from of her 7-year son, by 48-year-old William Danielson of Preston last Friday morning in Norwich.  Sheriff Ernest Cutting said that they have evidence, but they are looking for more witnesses to come forward:

Danielson is being held without bail on a 2nd degree murder charge, He & Knoll had been negotiating child custody for the 7 year old over the last 4 months; he will face grand jury action later this month.  Anyone With information can call 337-1921 or 337-1863

State Police received a missing person report on 74-year-old Marvin Taub of Oneonta, after he had picked up his neighbor’s dogs to walk them at the Pine Lake Campus of Hartwick College in Davenport.   Taub’s vehicle was located in the parking lot; State Police, Forest Rangers, Hartwick College Public Safety and Davenport Fire & EMS conducted a search.   Crews located tracks leading to a frozen pond, where Taub’s body was discovered & removed.  The death was ruled as accidental, the cause listed as drowning & hypothermia.

State received a missing person report on 74-year-old Ira Landess and 71-year-old Nancy Klinger-Landess of Harpersfield.   The Investigation revealed that both were missing along with their German Shepherd, a search of their property revealed a large ice hole in a frozen pond on the couple’s property with a dog toy near the hole.  State police Scuba Divers searched the pond, Ira Landess’s body was recovered, and the cause of death was accidental drowning & hypothermia.  Mrs. Landess’ body was recovered on Wednesday, along with her dog, her death was also ruled accidental due to drowning & hypothermia.

The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested 29-year-old Jeremy Cruz of Greene for Felony Criminal Mischief following an incident in the Town of Greene.  The victim had filed a complaint that a tenant had drilled a hole into the bottom of a fuel oil tank causing the fuel oil to leak out. Cruz was charged and was issued an appearance ticket for the Town of Greene Court and will appear at a later date.

Many new laws went into effect on Wednesday.  The Small Business Income Tax Reduction goes into effect this year.  This will be the 1st year of a 3-year phased-in tax cut.  Also. The state’s minimum wage increased to $8.00 an hour, it was coupled with a new Minimum Wage Reimbursement Tax Credit to help offset some of the increased wage costs for businesses.

Binghamton City police are looking for a suspect following a new years day stabbing on Downs Avenue in Binghamton.  Officers were called to the scene at about 3:00 Wednesday morning and found a 30-year-old man had been stabbed in the chest multiple times, following an argument.  The unidentified victim was taken to an area hospital and is recuperating following surgery, the investigation is continuing.

The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office and Norwich Police Department participated in a joint agency DWI sobriety checkpoint on Rexford St in the City of Norwich. Arrested were 42-year-old Angus Cullipher of Oxford for Driving while Intoxicated, Driving with a BAC over .08 and open container in a motor vehicle. Cullipher was released to a sober 3rd party & was issued citations for the Town of Norwich court.  Deputies also arrested 19-year-old Neilen Barker of New Berlin for Operating a motor vehicle while ability impaired by drugs and Unlawful possession of marihuana. Barker was issued traffic citations for the Town of Norwich court and released to a third party.
