The Chenango County Health Department statistics show a slight increase in COVID 19 levels over the past two weeks, however the CDC risk level for Chenango County remains “LOW”. What seemed like a slam dunk passing of legislation to cover Military Veterans for illnesses they received by exposure to burn pits while deployed all over the world, New York Senator Kirsten Gillibrand told WCDO News how that bill failed in the Senate today:

Between 2007 and 2020, 12,582 veterans claimed conditions related to burn pit exposure, they will wait to see if the legislation is passed in a slightly altered form in the coming weeks.

SUNY Board of Trustees approved the criteria for allocating $113 million in direct funding from State, to support campus programs designed to increase services to SUNY students, bolster enrollment at SUNY institutions, and support college completion rates. The additional $53 million will be used to hire new full-time faculty.

The State Health department reported that there are 80 known cases of the Monkeypox virus in New York State currently. 32 of the 80 cases are in Westchester County, 17 in Suffolk County on Long Island, the rest of the cases are mostly isolated around New York City, its Northern Suburbs, 3 in the Capital District and 10 in Western New York Counties. Local sales tax collections in New York state totaled more than $5.5 billion in the 2nd quarter of 2022, an increase of 12.2% or nearly $604 million compared to the same quarter last year, according to a new report by State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli. April and May collections grew by 15.7% and 16.7%, respectively, while June increased 6.5%, only a handful of counties saw more than 5% year-over-year growth in 2nd quarter sales tax collections and 31 counties had declines. Terry DeCutler of Sidney and Nicholas DeCutler of Unadilla, will be facing Grand jury Action in Otsego County Court shortly, both were charged with 2nd-degree murder for the May 30th fatal stabbing of 24 year old Kaleb O’Neill in an alleyway near 6 Dietz Street in Oneonta. The DeCutler brothers are being held pending Grand Jury Action, the investigation is ongoing.

Law Enforcement agencies are warning Motorcyclists to watch out for deer on state roads, following an uptick in that type of accident. More people are rising motorcycles due to the summer weather and the high gas prices, a Steuben County Motorcyclist had to be airlifted after his bike his a deer earlier today, about 1 in 11 accidents with motorcycles involve deer.

The Affordable Care Act’s premium tax credits are set to expire in the coming months, U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand is urging her colleagues to extend this coverage and save millions of Americans from losing their health care coverage:

State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli’s office recently conducted an audit of the Franklin Central School. The Key Findings were that District officials did not adequately manage network user accounts, periodically compare installed software to an authorized software inventory or develop an IT contingency plan. In addition to finding sensitive information technology control weaknesses, the audit found that 9 of the District’s network user accounts were not needed. District officials generally agreed with the Audit’s recommendations and have initiated or indicated they planned to initiate corrective action.

Governor Kathy Hochul signed Alyssa’s Law, requiring schools to consider the use of silent panic alarm systems when conducting review and development of their school safety plans. The bill is named after one of the victims of the 2019 mass shooting at the Marjorie Stoneman Douglass High School in Parkland, Florida. The panic alarm systems cost just a few thousand dollars to purchase, and can be implemented in the classroom as a smartphone app.

State Police issued 15 tickets in Deposit Tuesday during an “Operation Hard Hat” detail. Troopers monitored traffic on the Interstate through Deposit while road crews made bridge repairs. During the detail, a trooper blends in with the workers and watches for risky and unsafe behavior. 15 tickets were issued, 11 of them were for Speeding.

State Police arrested 25 year old Mason Kneedler of Cortlandville was arrested for 5 counts of Possessing a Sexual Performance by a Child. Kneedler is accused of possessing images consistent with child sexual exploitation. An investigation was initiated after a cyber tip was received by the New York State Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force. Kneedler was issued appearance tickets to the Cortlandville Town Court on July 11th . .

New York celebrated Juneteenth today, when the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Act was signed into law by Governor Kathy Hochul. The law will make it easier to sue over discriminatory voting policies and require areas with a history of civil right violations to get approval before changing election rules.

The Associated Press reported today that New York’s new law barring sales of bullet-resistant vests to most civilians doesn’t cover the type of armor worn by Payton Gendron of Conklin, when he killed 10 people at a Buffalo supermarket, May 14th. Gendron wore a steel-plated vest, which stopped a bullet fired at him by a security guard in the supermarket. New York’s law restricts sales of soft bullet-resistant vests to people who work in law enforcement and the military, plus people in certain other professions that require protective gear, that list has not been finalized.

Oneonta Police arrested 31-year-old Terry DeCutler of Sidney and 34-year-old Nicholas DeCutler of Unadilla,, for 2nd degree murder, for the May 30th murder of Kaleb O’Neill in the alley near 6 Dietz Street. They were arraigned in City of Oneonta Court and were remanded to the custody of the Otsego County Sheriff pending court action on Wednesday. The investigation is continuing, Anyone with additional information is asked to contact the Oneonta Police Department Detectives Division at (607) 432-1111.

State Troopers were dispatched Friday to a report of a drowning at Highland Park in the town of Union. When troopers arrived, a 12-year-old boy had already been pulled out of the pool by lifeguards and CPR was being performed. The 12-year-old was not breathing and had no pulse. Troopers, EMT & members if the Endwell Fire Department eventually had the 12-year-old breathing and did have a pulse when he was transported to Wilson Hospital, & he was later airlifted to Upstate University Hospital where he is still listed in critical condition.

Governor Hochul announced that $567 million is now available to help low-income electric and gas utility customers pay off past utility bills. This one-time, low-income utility bill credit will be applied to affected customers’ bills by the utilities, & requires no action by customers enrolled in the EAP program, The credit is expected to be applied to customers’ accounts by Aug. 1st. .

Governor Cuomo is restricting travel by state workers to Indiana following the controversy over that state’s new “Religious Freedom Restoration Act”. The Prosecution has rested in the 3rd murder trial of Cal Harris in Schoharie County Court this morning. The defense is scheduled to call more witnesses to the stand, including Cal & Michelle Harris’s daughter Jenna. Cal Harris has been convicted twice before for the September 2001 Murder of his estranged wife Michelle, & was twice granted new trials on appeal. The current trial has lasted 8 weeks so far.
