The Chenango County Health Department statistics show a slight increase in COVID 19 levels over the past two weeks, however the CDC risk level for Chenango County remains “LOW”. Health Department officials remind County Residents to get vaccinated & boosted, vaccine clinics are scheduled for August 1st for those seeking to get a Moderna, Pfizer 1st or 2nd Booster dose, another clinic will be on August 11th with a Moderna 1st Dose for children aged 2 to 11 years old. What seemed like a slam dunk passing of legislation to cover Military Veterans for illnesses they received by exposure to burn pits while deployed all over the world, New York Senator Kirsten Gillibrand told WCDO News how that bill failed in the Senate today:

Between 2007 and 2020, 12,582 veterans claimed conditions related to burn pit exposure, they will wait to see if the legislation is passed in a slightly altered form in the coming weeks.

SUNY Board of Trustees approved the criteria for allocating $113 million in direct funding from State, to support campus programs designed to increase services to SUNY students, bolster enrollment at SUNY institutions, and support college completion rates. The additional $53 million will be used to hire new full-time faculty.

The State Health department reported that there are 80 known cases of the Monkeypox virus in New York State currently. 32 of the 80 cases are in Westchester County, 17 in Suffolk County on Long Island, the rest of the cases are mostly isolated around New York City, its Northern Suburbs, 3 in the Capital District and 10 in Western New York Counties. Local sales tax collections in New York state totaled more than $5.5 billion in the 2nd quarter of 2022, an increase of 12.2% or nearly $604 million compared to the same quarter last year, according to a new report by State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli. April and May collections grew by 15.7% and 16.7%, respectively, while June increased 6.5%, only a handful of counties saw more than 5% year-over-year growth in 2nd quarter sales tax collections and 31 counties had declines.
