Approximately 460,000 New York Medicaid recipients diagnosed with diabetes received diabetes-related services costing more than $1.2 billion in state fiscal year 2013-14, according to a report released by State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli. The report notes that about 1.6 million adult New Yorkers, or 10.3% of the adult population, have been diagnosed with either Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes, which is higher than the 3-year nationwide average of 9.6%.

Runners from all over will participate in this year’s “Pit Run” Sunday. The annual race will begin at 10:45 at Neahwa Park in Oneonta, it is named in honor of Late State Police Investigator Rick Parisian of Oneonta, who died trying to stop an armed robbery at an Oneonta supermarket in 1994.

The last day to register to vote in the November 3rd General Election for Delaware county residents is Friday October 9, 2015, it is also the last day for the Board of Elections to receive an enrollment change to be effective for 2016. The 52nd Senate District covering Deposit and Hancock has a 1-year vacancy. County Court Judge and County Family Court Judge and many town offices are up for election. Absentee ballots, sample ballots with any propositions for the General Election are available at the Board of Elections Office in Delhi, Registration Forms and Absentee Ballot applications may be downloaded from co.delaware.ny.us/departments.

Fire Prevention Safety Week is this Sunday October 4th through Saturday October 10th. The Franklin Fire department will hold their 2nd annual open house & public safety day on Sunday, from 12:00 Noon to 3:00 PM, with free refreshments, free smoke detectors & participation with the American Red cross, Delaware county sheriff’s department state police & Bassett health care among others. Delaware County Public Health Services announces that the next free Rabies Vaccination Clinic For dogs, cats, and ferrets on October 14th from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Delhi Fire Hall at 140 Delview Terrace.
