Chenango County Public Health reported a 10th death from the COVID 19 virus today. Chenango County has 36 active cases, 3 people are hospitalized, 230 people are quarantined there have been 480 cases of the virus since March, with 423 recoveries, they have conducted over 40,000 tests.

Hartwick College reported no new cases of COVID-19 have been detected. There are eight active cases on campus; the total number of cases detected on campus since August 1, 2020 is 67.

Otsego County Department of Health announced that a raccoon has tested positive for rabies in the town of Hartwick on Thursday. An unvaccinated dog was exposed & will be quarantined, there was no human exposure, more information about rabies is available at 547-4230.

SUNY Oneonta’s COVID Response Team hosted 2 online town halls recently, 1 for employees and another for students and their parents, to report on planning for the spring 2021 semester. Recordings and transcripts of both town halls are available at suny.oneonta.edu. Acting President Dennis Craig formed the COVID Response team earlier this month to lead spring semester planning, with 50 faculty and staff members, administrators, students and other stakeholders, A video by President Craig regarding the potential for in-person classes in the spring is also available at suny.oneonta.edu.

Over 162,000 New Yorkers were tested for COVID 19 Wednesday, with 4,797 positives reported, just under 3% positivity. Patient Hospitalization increased by another 49 to 1,677; the number of patients in ICU beds is up to 308, and patients on ventilators is up to 136. There were 29 deaths from the virus Wednesday, the state death toll is 26,055.

Otsego County Department of Health reported 6 new cases of COVID 19 Thursday, they now have 46 active cases, no one is hospitalized, there have been 1078 total confirmed cases, 8 deaths, with 756 cases linked to SUNY Oneonta & 65 confirmed cases in Hartwick College students.

Delaware County Public Health reported 4 new COVID 19 cases Thursday, with 71 active cases, 9 hospitalizations, & 222 in Quarantine. The county is up to 260 total cases, 9 deaths & 180 recoveries.

Sidney Area Boy Scouts will do their annual food drive a little bit differently this year, due to the COVID 19 pandemic. Sidney Boy Scouts spokesman Dave Leidy explains:

The Better Business Bureau is warning residents of a scam that pretends to alert someone in an email that a package is being delivered, but instead is trying to steal personal information. Melanie McGovern of the Better Business Bureau explains:

McGovern said that people should report these fake deliveries emails to the Better Business Bureau at bbb.org.

The Firemen’s Association of the State of New York announced that Governor Cuomo has signed legislation addressing the growing decline in volunteer firefighters across the State. The new law creates a New York State Recruitment and Retention Task Force that will study challenges to recruiting and retaining volunteer firefighters.
