The Otsego County Sheriff’s Office stated that they were notified this morning by a local school district regarding the social media threat to unnamed schools, regarding possible gun violence at 12:15, but no specific date or school was named. This incident is currently being investigated by not only the Sheriff’s Office but multiple police agencies within and outside of Otsego County. The threat has been received by students at various schools in the area and statewide, the threat appears to be false. Officers communicated with school officials and were present in the areas of all of the schools this morning. Officers will continue to show a police presence & the investigation is ongoing.

Governor Kathy Hochul announced today that the statewide Mask Mandate will be re-instituted; masks will be required in all indoor public places. The Governor stated that an exception to the mask rule will be if a business or venue has a vaccine requirement. The State Health Department reported that the COVID positivity rate is back over 5% state wide, Hospitalization are well over 3000, the number in ICU Beds & on ventilators has increased at a lower rate than earlier in the year, due to a high rate of vaccinations.

State Attorney General Letitia James Announced that she is backing out of a run for New York Governor, and will concentrate on re-election to her current position. James was polling at a distant 2nd to current Governor Kathy Hochul among democrats, according to recent Sienna College Polls.

Bainbridge Fire Fighters responded to the report of a garage fire at 46 Pearl Street in the village this morning. Firefighters from Coventry & Afton also responded, early reports suggest that the fire was contained to a garage, which was a total loss, no injuries were reported, the cause of the fire is under investigation.

The Delaware County Chamber of Commerce announced today that the annual Toys For Tots Campaign was wildly successful. Delaware County Chamber of Commerce President Ray Pucci comments:

Toys for Tots works with the U.S. Marine Corps to provide a tangible sign of hope to economically disadvantaged children at Christmas. The Toys for Tots program was created in 1947 and has distributed 584 million toys to date to 265 million children.

Otsego County Sheriff’s Department arrested 41 year old Jeremiah Butler of the town of Maryland, following an investigation into a November 13th motor vehicle accident in the Town of Middlefield. Butler was charged with Felony DWI, operating a Motor Vehicle with a BAC of .08 of higher, failure to keep right, speed not reasonable & prudent along with other charges, Butler was released on an appearance tickets for Town of Middlefield Court at a later date.

Payne said that photos with Santa Claus will be held after parade at Jerry’s Inn, The Bainbridge Chamber of Commerce will also have a Toys for Tots collection at the Bainbridge Firehouse, they will have another collection on Sunday during the Christmas Caroling at 5:00 pm behind Bob’s Diner, and toys must be new & unwrapped.
