P.M. NEWS Friday 3-19-21

State Police and Broome County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to a residence on Hall Street in the town of Union to check on the welfare of the resident.  Troopers, Deputies & Endwell Fire Department members located 2 people were found deceased inside the home, they have been identified as 49-year-old Marc McKercher and 48-year-old Cynthia Pratts-Lyons, the investigation is continuing.

State Police arrested 58 year old Martin Lewicki of Norwich for 3rd degree Burglary & Criminal Mischief.   State Police asked for the public’s help in identifying a person who broke into the Balsam Inn in the town of Pharsalia last November, Surveillance video caught the suspect taking neon signs, bar lights, a bar table, bar stools and destroying several items, a tip led investigators to Lewicki, who was arrested, arraigned & was remanded to the Chenango County Jail without bail.

Delaware County Public Health will be conducting a COVID-19 vaccination clinic on Saturday at the DCMO BOCES- Harrold Campus, on State Route 206 from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM. This vaccination clinic is open to New York state residents or people who work in New York State who presently qualify by being 60+ years of age, an eligible worker 18+ years of age, or those with qualifying medical conditions 18+ years of age.  Eligibility requirements are available at covid19vaccine.health.ny.gov, Registration is mandatory at delawarecountypublichealth.com/covid-19.

Chenango County Public Health reported 11 new COVID cases today.  They have had a total of 2609 positives, 2362 recoveries and 64 deaths.  Currently, Chenango County has 5 hospitalized, 95 active cases & 272 quarantined.

Chenango County Sheriff’s Department arrested 46 year old Christina Clifford of Edmeston following an investigation into forged fraudulent checks being cashed in a Town of North Norwich business. Clifford was charged with 2nd degree Forgery &plus conspiracy & petty larceny, she was taken into custody without incident, & was released to on an appearance ticket to appear in the Town of North Norwich Court at a later date.

Friends of Rogers started their 2nd annual Electric Car Raffle today March 19th, which features a prize of a 2020 Tesla Model 3. The raffle runs through October 15th, the winner will be announced on October 21st. at Rogers Center and will be open to the public. The state-run mass vaccination site at SUNY Oneonta opened today with Bassett Healthcare Network staff, state Staff, the National Guard and Otsego County Public Health on hand.  Anyone currently eligible under state guidelines can find the link to register at bassett.org, or at the ‘Am I Eligible’ App or website or by calling 1-833-NYS-4-VAX (1-833-697-4829).

Chenango County Correctional Officers discovered an unconscious male inmate in his cell Wednesday.    22 year old Dillin Button was pronounced deceased after attempts to revive him were unsuccessful.  The autopsy ruled his death as a result of a bacterial blood infection of the heart and pneumonia, it was revealed that 2 weeks earlier that Button was diagnosed with a bacterial blood infection and pneumonia at an area hospital & he checked himself out of before receiving complete treatment.

Beginning March 29th statewide travel for sports and recreational activities will be permitted. The New York Mets and New York Yankees can resume play with spectators in their stadiums, beginning April 1st, with 20% capacity allowed, along with other COVID protocols in place.

Delaware County Public Health reported 19 new COVID 19 cases Thursday out of 352 tested.  They report 111 active cases, 7 hospitalized & 354 in quarantine.

The State Health Department reported that on Wednesday over 271,000 COVID tests were given statewide, with 2.87% testing positive.  Patient hospitalizations, the number of patients in an ICU bed & the number on ventilators continue to decline, there were 57 deaths from the virus.

The Otsego County Department of Health will be holding a vaccination clinic at the Meadows Office Complex in Cooperstown Today.  Registration is up on the Otsego County Department of Health Website.

Chenango County Public Health will hold a Vaccine clinic today at the former Label Shopper Store in the South Plaza Center on State Route 12 in Norwich.  Registrations are required at co.chenango.ny.us; for groups outlined by the state Health Department.
