The Otsego Health Department reported a 60th COVID death, following a review of recent death certificates.  The Department reported 10 new cases of COVID Thursday with 59 active cases & 5 hospitalized, their latest positivity rate was at 2%, 41 of the 60 deaths attributed to the virus have been reported since January 1st.

Chenango County Public Health reported 18 new COVID cases today, bringing their total to 3256 since the beginning of the pandemic.  They reported 109 active cases, 460 Active Quarantines & 4 Hospitalizations.

New updated guidance for graduation and commencement ceremonies goes into effect tomorrow in New York State.  Indoor and outdoor graduation and commencement ceremonies will be allowed with limited attendee capacity, depending on the event size and the location. All event organizers and venues hosting ceremonies must follow the State’s safety protocols, including requiring face masks, social distancing, health screenings and collection of contact tracing information. Detailed guidance for graduation events is available at coronavirus.health.ny.gov.

This weekend is the 10th annual I Love My Park Day at state parks, historic sites and public lands across New York. The Sidney Center Improvement Group will hold a fundraising bake sale this Sunday at 11:00 AM.  The event will be held at the Fire Station Field at the corner of Routes 35 & 23 in Sidney Center

UHS Chenango Memorial Hospital is holding its first walk-in COVID-19 vaccine clinic today until 6:30 PM at the Awestruck Tap Room in the Sidney Industrial Park.  Today will be a 1st dose Moderna vaccine clinic; it will be followed up with a 2nd shot clinic for today’s participants on Thursday May 27th, also at Awestruck in Sidney.  Walk-ins are welcome, anyone wishing to schedule a specific time can call Awestruck at 232-1143.

A.M. NEWS FRIDAY 4-30-21

State Troopers & local fire Departments responded to a bus fire in the northbound lanes on I-81 Thursday.  42 people were on the bus, 4 were injured; 1 person transported to Wilson Hospital for burns, 2 were taken to Binghamton General for smoke inhalation and 1 person was treated at scene.  Both northbound lanes were shut down for several hours just north of exit 7 Castle Creek, the highway was fully re-opened at about 6:20 PM.

The Village of Sidney’s annual Arbor Day tree planting ceremony will be held this afternoon at 1:00PM at Keith Clark Park. A Sugar Maple tree will be planted, the Sidney Shade Tree Commission has conducted the Arbor Day tree planting tradition since 1994 & Sidney has been designated as a “Tree City USA” community for 24 years.

Delaware County Public Health will be conducting a first dose Moderna COVID-19 vaccination clinic on Thursday May 6th, at 97 Main Street in Delhi.  This vaccination clinic is open to all New York state residents or people who work in New York State over the age of 18.  Registration is mandatory at apps2.health.ny.gov, more information or assistance getting registered is available by calling Delaware County Public Health at 832-5200. Delaware County Public Health reported 8 new COVID cases Thursday, out of 585 tests, they are down to 70 active cases, 6 hospitalized & 152 quarantined.
