Norwich Police arrested 47-year-old Paul Russell of Norwich on charges of Sexual Abuse, Course of Sexual Contact against a Child, Forcible Touching, for allegedly subjecting a child to sexual contact. Russell was arraigned in Norwich City Court and remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility on $20,000 cash bail, he is scheduled to reappear in City Court on Tuesday.

The Investigation is continuing of Former State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman, who resigned Monday after allegations of physical violence against 4 women. Area Assemblyman Cliff Crouch said that this was another case that points up the need for ethics reforms for state elected officials:

Schneiderman was replaced by Barbara Underwood on an interim basis, the case if being investigated by Nassau County DA Madeline Singas.

Governor Cuomo today announced that $3 million is available to help New Yorkers suffering from serious health issues that are aggravated by extreme heat in order to purchase an air conditioner. Individuals can apply through HEAP at their local department of social services. To qualify, applicants must meet existing HEAP eligibility criteria and income guidelines, which vary by household size, and have at least one member of the household that suffers from a documented medical condition exacerbated by extreme heat. Applications will be accepted through August 31, or until funding runs out, the applications are available at otda.ny.gov.

UHS Chenango Memorial Hospital will launch a new education series for women; it will begin Monday at the Bohemian Moon at 103 East Main Street in Norwich. The event will begin at 6:00 PM, the presentation and discussion led by Dr. Phyllis Sheriff-White will follow at 7:00 PM.

The City of Oneonta will be performing maintenance on the upper and middle levels of the parking garage on Monday beginning at 4:00 a.m. The upper level entrance and exit will be open for the duration. All vehicles must be removed from the mid-level no later than 7:00 PM this Sunday. The upper and lower levels of the garage will remain open, and all other municipal parking lots, at Dietz Street, Wall Street & the Westcott Lot will remain open. All 7 Democratic Party Candidates in the race for the 19th Congressional District will participate in a debate Saturday at Delaware Academy in Delhi. The event will run from 4:00 to 6:30 PM, it is free & open to the public.

Graduates of SUNY Oneonta will walk the stage in 3 ceremonies on Saturday: the School of Social Science at 9:00 AM, the School of Arts and Humanities and School of Natural and Mathematical Sciences at 1 PM and the School of Education and Human Ecology and School of Economics and Business at 4:00 PM. Receptions will be held after each on the academic quad.

The Tri Town Theater will be performing “4 Weddings & An Elvis” for 3 performances at the Sidney High School this weekend. Steve Quimby is a veteran actor who performed early in his career with the Late Jack Deuel in the Tri Town Theater, he told WCDO News that he was honored to be asked to direct this play, & he is dedicating his efforts in Jack’s memory:
