With the National Weather Service issuing a “Wind Advisory”; NYSEG announced that there staff is monitoring weather forecasts throughout the upstate Counties today & tonight. Customers are urged to be attentive to weather reports and prepare for the possibility of service interruptions. Storm readiness teams are in place, if the expected high winds knock down trees & power lines.

The American Cancer Society Tri Town Relay for Life Team Captain’s meeting will be held on Monday May 7th at SFCU at 5:30 PM. Cancer society officials said that it’s not too late to sign up teams for the event in Bainbridge on June 8th in General Clinton Park. The annual “Paint the Town Purple” Event will be held on Friday may 18th this year. More information is available at 766-6910.

Saturday will be the 7th Annual ‘I Love My Park Day’ at 135 New York State Parks, Historic Sites and Public Lands, with more than 8,000 volunteers expected to participate. Most events will begin at 9:00 am and end by 12:00pm, a list of Participating parks, can be found at ptny.org/events/i-love-my-park-day. Governor Cuomo also announced $90 million in revitalization and rehabilitation projects at nearly 50 State parks and historic sites across New York this year, which was recently included in the State Budget.

The Center for Disease Control has released a report that states that over the last 13 years the number of illnesses has tripled from mosquito, tick, and flea bites. As the summer inches closer & the insect population becomes more prevalent, the CDC recommends using repellent with 20% or more DEET, or applying permethrin on your clothing. They also suggest washing all clothes on in hot water and dry them on a hot setting to kill off any remaining ticks.

The Guataleman man at the center of a recent controversy in Oneida County between ICE agent & Governor Cuomo, was indicted Wednesday on a charge of Illegal re-entry into the United States. Marcial DeLeon-Aguilar was detained on April 18th by when U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents raided the Collins family farm in Rome, where he had been working and living with his pregnant wife and 4 children. DeLeon-Aguilar has been deported 3 times since 1997: 1 time after an aggravated assault conviction, and 2 times after his illegal re-entry into the U.S.

The Sidney Center Improvement Group received trees donated, with plans to plant some of the trees at the Park, and the rest will be given away, according to Group Spokesman Mike Sellitti:

The trees will be given away by the Sidney Center Firehouse Starting at about 9:00 AM Saturday.

The Chenango Arts Council will have 2 major events going on Saturday, with the Allegro 5K Run/ Walk in Norwich in the Morning & a local talent showcase Saturday Night, Council Executive Director Alecia O’Neill explains:
