On April 28th, members of the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office, State Police, and City of Norwich Police Department conducted an enhanced traffic-safety enforcement campaign in the Norwich area. 5 people were arrested on a variety of drug charges during the detail. During the detail a total of 17 criminal arrests were made in addition to 41 traffic summons for various vehicle and traffic violations.

Chenango County Sheriff’s department arrested 2 juvenile residents from the Village of Smyrna Thursday for Reckless Endangerment, following an investigation into an accidental shooting. The 2 unnamed juveniles were pointing rifles at each other in a reckless manner when the 16 year old’s gun discharged striking the 17 year old in the shoulder, the 17 year old was taken to Community Memorial Hospital and released with minor injuries. Both juveniles were issued appearance tickets for Village of Smyrna Court and were released to their parents.

State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli’s office approved the purchase of a $12.5 million, used Sikorsky Helicopter that would be used to fly the governor around the state. The State Police will take delivery of the aircraft next month, DiNapoli initially rejected the proposal earlier this year, they reversed course and gave the State Police permission to pursue the deal, after a state helicopter carrying Cuomo filled with fumes and made an emergency landing at Stewart Airport in Newburgh.
