New York Attorney General Letitia James will make the Election Protection Hotline will be available for the upcoming June 22nd election and during New York’s early voting period, which runs from this Saturday to Sunday, June 20th.   The hotline will be available to troubleshoot and resolve a range of issues encountered by voters; issues can be called in to 1-800-771-7755,

Norwich City Police arrested 45 year old Bernie Infante of Norwich for criminal possession of a weapon Thursday, after a neighbor of Infante called police saying that he did not feel safe following a confrontation.  City Police stated that Infante pointed a shotgun at officers, then turned & shot through a wall into the neighbor’s apartment, the bullet grazed the neighbor, who denied medical attention.  Infante attempted to escape but was apprehended by officer, he was taken to Chenango Memorial Hospital for a medical evaluation & was being held pending arraignment, more charges may be filed.

Governor Cuomo today announced the state has awarded $10 million in aid to localities statewide to support emergency response operations.  The grants will allow municipalities in 57 counties and New York City to make improvements to their 9-1-1 response and emergency service dispatch operations.  Locally Chenango County gets over $188,000, Delaware County $142,000 & Otsego County over $205,000.

State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli today announced that former Pharsalia Town Supervisor Dennis Brown pleaded guilty to stealing $240,000 in public funds and must now pay full restitution.   Brown pleaded guilty today in Chenango County Court in Norwich to 2nd degree Grand Larceny, he must pay $240,000 in restitution, of which he has already paid $125,000, and faces a potential state prison term at his sentencing on September 17th.

A.M. NEWS FRIDAY 6-11-21

34 year old Jason Johnson, who was wanted since Wednesday Night in connection with shooting a New York State Trooper, was taken into custody at about 4:30 Thursday afternoon in the town of Colesville.  State Police & Broome County Deputies were sent on a Welfare check of an individual Wednesday night at about 8:30PM, Johnson is accused of Shooting Trooper Becky Seager, who suffered a non-life threatening hip injury & was treated & released at Wilson Hospital.   Johnson was arraigned this morning at Broome County Central Arraignment and Processing on 2 counts of Attempted Murder, he was remanded to the Broome County Jail on no bail.  Other charges are pending.

The Chenango County Health Department is hosting a Free Johnson & Johnson Vaccine Clinic at the Norwich Firehouse During the Chicken Barbecue on Saturday from 1:00 to 3:00 pm.  The Clinic is first come first serve, 100 doses are available.  Participants must be 18 years or older for this type of vaccine & they will need to complete a health screening form before the shot.  More information is available at 337-1660.

The Chenango Arts Council announced that Opening Receptions Are Back, in the Marea Brown and Raymond Loft Galleries at 5:30 pm.  Local Artist Rainy Collins-Vickers’ exhibit of stained glass artwork will be on display now through June 25.

State Police announced the Run for the Fallen begins in Syracuse today & heads toward Albany over 3 days, to honor fallen service members.  Part of the second day of the run comes through Otsego County & Traffic delays are likely around 11:00 a.m., along State Route 20 from West Winfield through Richfield Springs and East Springfield. The race ends Sunday from Sharon Springs to Albany; more information is available on the State Police website.
