State Police and local law enforcement will be out in force through Labor Day weekend in order to crack down on impaired and reckless driving during Labor Day weekend. The enforcement period runs through Monday, September 4, the State Police will increase patrols to combat drunk, impaired, and reckless driving throughout this Labor Day weekend.

Governor Kathy Hochul today announced that temporary lane closures for road and bridge construction projects on New York State highways will be suspended from 6 am. on Friday, September 1, to 6 am. on Tuesday, September 5, to ease travel throughout Labor Day weekend. Suspension of roadside construction during a weekend of increased traffic also helps protect the safety of highway workers, including those in organized labor, during a holiday that honors the ideals of the labor movement.

Delaware County Board of Elections are alerting County Residents that Individuals have been going door to door impersonating County Board of Elections staff. These individuals are confronting voters regarding their registration status and accusing voters of committing crimes. If you encounter one of these individuals in Delaware County, please call 607-832-5321 immediately. The Delaware County Board of Elections has already notified local law enforcement.

State Police are currently recruiting to add to their numbers, especially those who live in the Troop C coverage area. Troop C Recruiting Officer Trooper Lauren Warner Told WCDO News of some of the requirements to become a State Trooper:

September is Suicide awareness Month, and 2 events will be coming this month to raise awareness & raise funds to combat the continuing suicide problem. Karen Heisig is the Director of the Greater New York Chapter of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, she talked about how people can get involved in the cause:

Heiseg said that there will be a Walk at the 6th Ward Booster Club Field in Oneonta on September 16th starting at 8:00 AM, another will be on September 24th starting at SUNY Delhi at 12:00 Noon, people can register for the walks at AFSP.ORG/Oneonta or AFSP.Org/Delaware County, more information is also available at 315-664-0346.
