Catholic Charities of Sidney and other local organizations will hold another Community Partnership Mass Food Distribution on September 30th at the Sidney Fire Station on River Street. Catholic Charities spokesperson Penny McKnight told WCDO News that they need volunteers to assist on that day:

McKnight said that they have had several of the Mass Food Distribution since last year, averaging about 12 tons of food given away at each event. The number to volunteer is 607-604-4071.

Governor Hochul and legislative leaders announced Thursday that a stimulus payment of about $270 will be sent to 1.75 million New Yorkers to combat inflation and improve affordability. The New York Department of Taxation and Finance will soon begin sending direct financial assistance to New Yorkers who received the Empire State Child Credit and/or the Earned Income Credit on their 2021 state tax returns. New Yorkers can expect to receive their checks by the end of October.

State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli’s office completed an audit of the Milford Central School District, which found that the board and district officials did not properly manage fund balance in accordance with statute. The District’s Surplus fund balance exceeded the 4% statutory limit by $600,000, or 5.4%, the Milford board and district officials did not develop and adopt a written multiyear financial plan or fund balance policy.

New York Lottery officials announced that a winning ticket for the Take 5 Midday drawing was purchased at the Mirabito Convenience Store in at 10 North Canal Street in Oxford on Thursday, September 8. The winning ticket was worth $9,683, Lottery ticket purchasers can check to see if they have the winning ticket at nylottery.ny.gov.

Governor Hochul announced that the suspension of certain taxes on Gasoline & Diesel Fuel will be extended through December 31st. The suspension was implemented back on June 1, the fuel tax suspension will provide a reduction of at least $0.16 per gallon

The Out Of The Woodwork Players will hold auditions for “A Suessified Christmas Carol”, tomorrow from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, and Friday September 16th from 6:30 to 8:00 PM, in the Bainbridge Town Hall Theater, many roles are available, the performances will be held in December.
