The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested 26-year-old Benjamin Geers of Beacon for 1 count each of Harassment & Endangering the welfare of a child. Geers was charged following an investigation of a domestic dispute in the Town of Plymouth, Geers allegedly subjected a female victim to unwanted physical contact in the presence of a child under the age of seventeen. Geers was arraigned in the Town of Smyrna court and was released on his own recognizance, he will appear in the Town of Plymouth court at a later date.

The State’s minimum wage has increased to $9.70 in the Upstate Counties of New York, Governor Cuomo commented about the increase this afternoon:

The minimum wage will go up another 70 cents an hour each year after until reaching $12.50 on December 31st of 2020, the minimum wage will continue to increase to $15 on an indexed schedule to be set by the Director of the Division of Budget in consultation with the Department of Labor. A Department of Labor Hotline has been set up for those with questions at 1-888-4-NYSDOL.

Governor Cuomo issued the first conditional pardons to more than 100 New Yorkers who were convicted of a non-violent crime when they were minors, and who have since lived crime-free for 10 years or more. This marks the first round of executive youth pardons since the Governor announced this first-in-the-nation action in December 2015 and is the largest number of clemencies issued in any year since taking office in 2011.

Many New Laws went into effect with the New Year. Battling the Heroin crisis was among the top priorities, with new laws Ending Prior Insurance Authorization for Immediate Access to Inpatient Treatment Services  and Expanding Access to Naloxone/Opioid Reversal Medication Coverage by requiring insurance coverage for the overdose reversal medication, whether it is prescribed to a person who is addicted to opioids or their family member covered under the same insurance plan.


Oneonta Police arrested 25-year-old Joshua Underwood of Oneonta for 2nd degree murder, attempted arson & criminal possession of a weapon. The crime occurred early Sunday Morning in an apartment at 229 Main Street in Oneonta; Underwood is accused of killing 52-year-old Mark Morrison of Oneonta by blunt force trauma to the head, & setting a fire to cover up the crime. Underwood was arraigned & was remanded to the Otsego County Jail on $50,000 cash bail or $100,000 bond, the investigation is continuing.

State Police arrested 38-year-old Donald Moshier of Triangle, and 32-year-old Rachel Wells of Triangle for unlawful manufacturing of methamphetamine after a traffic stop on State Route 11 in the town of Barker. Both were arraigned and were remanded to the Broome County Jail with no bail.
