20 year old James Hamilton of Oneonta has been charged with 1st degree rape, by Oneonta Police, for allegedly raping a woman recently.  Hamilton is being held in the Otsego County Jail, pending future court action.

5 time World Series champion Derek Jeter heads a group of 18 new candidates on the 2020 Hall of Fame ballot that is being mailed this week to more than 400 voting members of the Baseball Writers Association of America.  Jeter will join 14 holdovers from the 2019 balloting, plus newcomers to the ballot, Candidates must be named on 75 percent of ballots cast by selected BBWAA members with 10 or more consecutive years of MLB coverage to gain election

The Unatego Girls Soccer team made it to the State Championships in Cortland, on Saturday the Spartans advanced in the semifinals over Haldane in penalty kicks after a 0-0 tie through regulation and overtime.  On Sunday the Spartans played in the state championship game and fell 1-0 to defending champion Stillwater. This was the farthest any team has made it in Unatego school history.

Following a scam that referenced the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department, Delaware County Sheriff Craig DuMond reminds area residents to be mindful of this current scam.  Residents may receive a phone call from a male stating to be from a Law Enforcement Agency, threatening jail because of a warrant for IRS violations and Identity Theft; they may be instructed to purchase gift cards to various locations.  Sheriff DuMond advises that he or anyone associated with the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office will NEVER solicit any financial information or seek fund requests over the phone.

The State Legislature is holding a hearing this Wednesday regarding the successes or failures of this year’s first attempt at early voting.  The state Board of Elections has said over 256,000 people cast their ballots before Election Day between Oct. 26 and Nov. 3 under early voting.

Major League Baseball is reportedly ready to propose a plan to eliminate about 1/4 of the 160 plus Minor league teams, especially short league Single A teams, according to the Daily News, the Short season Brooklyn Cyclones would be placed in the Double A Eastern League, thereby eliminating the Binghamton Rumble Ponies.  Binghamton owner John Hughes plans to have representation at an upcoming meeting on the subject, showing that NYSEG Stadium & the team’s location are worthy reasons to keep the team in Binghamton.

State Police are investigating a Fatal Hunting Accident Saturday morning.  20 year old Joshua Morgan from Newport was a part of a hunting party in the town of Frankfort when he was reportedly accidentally shot by another member of his hunting party.  Morgan was pronounced deceased at the scene.  The investigation is continuing.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 35 year old Albert Janke of Shirley for Speeding & Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle on State Highway 17 in the Village of Hancock, where a DMV check revealed that Janke’s driving privileges in New York were suspended. Janke was subsequently released on an appearance ticket, and was scheduled to appear before the Village of Hancock Court at a later date.

Delaware County Sheriff Craig DuMond announced the arrest of 25-year-old Willie Walker of Fishes Eddy on a sealed indictment warrant handed down by the Delaware County Grand Jury.  Walker was arrested on Thursday following a narcotics sales investigation,  Walker was arraigned on 3 counts of Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance,  Walker was remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility on $5,000 bail pending further court action.
