Governor Cuomo announced that temporary lane closures for road and bridge construction projects on New York State highways will be suspended during peak holiday travel times over the next two weeks to ease travel for motorists.  All road construction work behind temporary lane closures will be suspended from 6:00 tomorrow until 6:00 AM Thursday, December 26, and again from 6:00 AM Tuesday, December 31, through 6:00 Thursday, January 2nd.  Some work may continue behind concrete barriers or for emergency repairs.

Delaware Academy Superintendent Jason Thomson announced his resignation last week, after serving in that position for 9 years.  Thomson will take a similar position in Kinderhook, the School board will name an interim superintendent shortly & begin conducting a search for a replacement early next year.

Sentencing for former Cooperstown teacher Justin Hobbie has been rescheduled.   Hobbie was due to be sentenced in Federal Court in Binghamton last week in after pleading guilty on 3 counts of sexual exploitation of a child, for asking 3 teenaged females to send him lewd pictures through social media sites.  Hobbie was arrested in 2018 & left his position as a physical education teacher.

Developers who were attempting to build & operate a “Dollar General” store in the town of Franklin have withdrawn their request.  Franklin residents opposed the plan earlier this year when the requests were filed with the board to build a store there.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 66 year old John Sanders of Roxbury, Thursday on an arrest warrant for Criminal Obstruction of Breathing, and Menacing, after an investigation of a complaint from the victim, alleging that Sanders grabbed the victim around the neck and applied pressure, and by displaying a dangerous instrument.  Sanders was arraigned at the Town of Roxbury Court & was released in his own recognizance, he will re-appear at a later date.

FEMA announced that federal disaster assistance has been made available to New York Counties for recovery efforts in the areas affected by severe storms, straight-line winds and flooding on October 31st through November 1st.  2 local counties were included in the disaster declaration, they are Chenango & Otsego counties, additional designations may be made following further damage assessments.

Governor Cuomo today unveiled legislation to prevent convicted sex offenders from using social media accounts, dating apps and video game chat functions to exploit children. The proposal builds on New York’s e-STOP law, which was passed in 2008 and requires sex offenders to register certain online activities with the state.
