Oneonta Fire Fighters, with assistance from Laurens & other area departments, responded to a fire this weekend at 452 West Street. No injuries have been reported, firefighters needed to return last night when the fire rekindled.

State Police arrested 27-year-old Vincent Cavalieri from Schenevus after he was involved in an incident that occurred on September 12 in 2020 in Camden. Cavalieri was off-duty from the Otsego County Sheriff’s Department when he accidentally discharged his personally owned firearm in his pants pocket, resulting in the injury of a 10-year-old girl and her mother. Both victims were treated for minor injuries and released. Cavalieri was charged with Reckless Endangerment, he is currently employed as a police officer in Cooperstown. Cavalieri was arraigned in Oneida County Court and was released on his own recognizance. He is scheduled to appear back in Oneida County Court Wednesday.

State Police reported that 2 separate accidents occurred on State Route 8 in the town of Deposit Thursday. State Police were dispatched to a tractor trailer on its side Thursday afternoon, where the driver went off the roadway onto a soft shoulder and the vehicle flipped onto its side, spilling wood chips. No injuries were reported. Police reported that 1 lane was shut down for clean-up when a truck struck low hanging wires with its trailer, the truck was not damaged during the incident and no injuries were reported. but Route 8 was closed for several hours because of the downed power lines and clean up.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Walton woman for driving with a suspended license. Deputies responded Sunday to a 2-car accident on State Highway 10 in the Town of Hamden, 1 vehicle was against the guardrails and that the other vehicle had left the scene. Deputies located the vehicle that had left the scene at a nearby residence & identified the driver as 29-year-old Kassondra Pierce of Walton, who had her driving privileges suspended. Pierce was charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Unlicensed Operator and Leaving the Scene of a Property Damage Accident, she was released & was ordered to appear in Town of Hamden Court at a later date.

Binghamton Mayor Jared Kraham offered a $10,000 reward for information leading to an arrest in an ongoing investigation into the fatal shooting of a 12-year-old Aliza Spencer Thursday night on the city’s East Side. Binghamton Police reported that Spencer was walking with her father and brother near their home shortly after 10:00 Thursday night when she was struck in the chest by a bullet.

Animal Adoptions traditionally slow up in Spring, so Delaware Valley Humane Society Executive Director Erin Insinga decided that she will bring an adoptable animals to various locations over the next 2 months, she told WCDO News how this will be done:

Sidney Police Department arrested an individual 29 year old Bret Vanvalkenburgh of Bainbridge Wednesday, who was wanted on 3 active bench warrants, 2 from 2 separate petty larceny investigations and one for an open fire during the burn ban. Vanvalkenburgh failed to appear in court on those charges, he was arraigned on all counts in Village of Sidney Court where he was released on his own recognizance to appear back in court at a later date.

A.O. Fox Hospital’s Carson Lecture Series program continues tonight with “TB and COVID-19: A Tale of Two Pandemics,” presented by Doctor Richard Chaisson, professor of medicine at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and director of the Johns Hopkins Center for Tuberculosis Research. The presentation will be held tonight at the Foothills Performing Arts center on Market Street in Oneonta, starting at 7:30 pm., it is FREE and open to the public.

The Norwich Downtown Revitalization Initiative’s Local Planning Committee’s 4th meeting will be held virtually on ZOOM at 3:00 PM today. The purpose of this meeting is to continue the Committee’s discussion and review of potential projects for inclusion in Norwich’s Strategic Investment Plan.
