As students prepare to graduate from High School or college, the push is on to try to keep the graduates establishing their career in New York, instead of moving south. Assemblyman Cliff Crouch said that there are some local jobs available this spring locally:

The Cuomo administration has been pushing for jobs & companies of the future to start or move to New York, through the Start Up New York Program with tax breaks for those who establish near SUNY Schools, and through the Regional economic Development councils.

Former Endicott firefighter Jason Stokes was Acquitted in Broome County court, after being accused of burning his own home in August 2016 with his wife and children inside. A jury handed down the verdict of “not guilty” on today. The fire was ruled as arson but the jury did not find there was enough evidence to convict Stokes of setting fire to his own home.

The City of Oneonta officials announced that they are experiencing issues with water pressure. City officials say that residents who use city water may experience intermittent low pressure and/or changes in water color as distribution tank maintenance is being performed this week. City staff is working to normalize water pressure as soon as possible..

State Police arrested 49-year-old Dana Gatling of Suitland, Maryland for Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs and other traffic violations, after troopers responded to an Otsego County 911 report of an erratic driver on Interstate 88 in the Town of Oneonta. Gatling consented to a test for drugs, the lab results are pending. Gatling was arraigned in the Town of Oneonta Court and was remanded to the Otsego County Jail in lieu of $1,500 cash bail or $7,500 property bond. Her next court date is on June 8th.

The Federal Reserve Bank of New York reported that New York State manufacturing index fell last month. U.S. factories, including those in New York, have been expanding since the fall, after an 18-month slump caused by low oil prices.

The New York Compensation Insurance Rating Board has submitted an overall workers’ compensation rate decrease of approximately 4.5%, which will save New York employers about $400 million this year in workers’ compensation premiums. The Board attributed the reduction in premium rates to cost savings measures passed as part of the 2017-2018 State budget and general system savings by the State Workers’ Compensation Board. The rate submission must still be reviewed and approved by the Department of Financial Services and, if approved, would become effective October 1, 2017.

5 finalists in the Taste New York Inaugural Craft Beer Challenge were announced today. The finalists are invited to attend the final blind tasting event in New York City on May 17, which will be hosted and judged by Governor Cuomo and a panel of expert judges. The finalists include Brewery Ommegang of Cooperstown, the Genesee Brewing Company of Rochester, Prison City Pub and Brewery of Auburn, The Roscoe Beer Company of Roscoe, & Southern Tier Brewing Company of Lakewood. The final tasting event will be held Wednesday in New York City,

Human remains found on Tuesday in Susquehanna County have been positively identified as 37 year old Jamie Nieves of Binghamton. Nieves was reported missing to State Police on December 3. The cause of death has not been determined, & the investigation is ongoing.

BC Transit will be providing shuttles from Nathaniel Cole Park to Animal Adventure Park for their first week of the season. The main parking lot at Animal Adventure Park will still be used. The shuttle service will be utilized when the main lot is full in order to accommodate the large crowds expected. Today is opening day at the park, shuttles will run regularly starting at 10:30 A.M. and running until 5:00 P.M. The shuttles will maintain the same schedule on Saturday, May 20th and Sunday, May 21st. This service is provided free of charge as a courtesy from Animal Adventure.
