State Police responded to the report of a Car & Motorcycle accident Sunday afternoon on State Route 7 in Afton. 53 year old Julie Lawton of Binghamton crossed over the double yellow and struck the driver’s side of a Jeep Grand Cherokee that was traveling the opposite direction. Lawton was airlifted to Wilson Hospital where she later died of her injuries.

The Broome County Special Investigations Unit Task Force executed 2 narcotics search warrants in Binghamton, at 65 Schubert Street and 216 Court Street. Police found 60 grams of Fentanyl and drug packaging materials at the Schubert Street address, Orlando Torres of Binghamton was charged with 2 Counts each of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance & Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia. Police found approximately 15 grams of Fentanyl packaged for sale and other drug packaging materials at the Court Street location, Kaheem Ward of Binghamton was charged with 4 Counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance and 2 Counts of Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia.

New York State has announced a statewide pharmacy standing order for all pharmacies for naloxone beginning today. Naloxone blocks the effects of opioids allowing a person to regain consciousness and resume normal breathing. The State health department stated that some pharmacy chains already have provided their own standing orders, covering over 2,600 pharmacies, and independent Pharmacies may now also have naloxone ready for use.

Law enforcement agencies throughout the State are increasing patrols to target speeding through Sunday, as part of Speed Awareness week. Last year, law enforcement throughout the state issued 23,087 tickets for speeding and 32,170 tickets for other vehicle and traffic law violations, such as impaired and distracted driving.

The State DOT is advising motorists that starting Today, State Route 7 between Pleasant Hill Road and Hancock Road in the Town of Colesville, will be closed to traffic for a culvert replacement. The closure is expected to last approximately 7 days, weather permitting, traffic will be directed to I-88. For up-to-date travel information, call 511.
