A special Election Day will be held tomorrow, starting at 6:00 AM to 9:00 PM. A Special Election is being held locally to fill the 19th Congressional District, following the appointment of Antonio Delgado to Lieutenant Governor, the candidates are Republican Marcus Molinaro and Democrat Patrick Ryan, the winner will fill the position through the end of this year. Also, due to the state’s redistricting issues earlier this year, there will be primaries for Congressional and State Senate seats, in the 51st State Senate District, incumbent Republican Peter Oberacker faces a primary challenge from Terry Bernardo, in the 52nd State Senate District, Lea Webb & Leslie Danks Burke are running for the Democratic party nomination. In the 19th Congressional District, the Democratic Party Primary candidates are Jamie Cheney & Josh Riley, the winner in that race will appear on the Ballot in November for the term starting January 1st 2023. State Police & EMS responded to a 1-vehicle crash on County Highway 42 in the town of Maryland. Troopers found that vehicle had crashed into a tree, the driver was a 17-year-old female who was pronounced deceased on scene. A preliminary investigation revealed that the operator was traveling south on County Highway 42 when she exited the roadway and struck a tree. The investigation is ongoing.

Local sales tax collections in New York state increased by 11.9% in July compared to the same month in 2021, according to an analysis by State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli. Local collections totaled $1.8 billion, up $188 million as compared to July of last year. A majority of counties saw some year-over-year growth in July collections, with Schuyler County experiencing the largest increase at 19.6%.

The United States Geological Survey says the small magnitude 1.2 tremor happened just east of Batavia, in Genesee County last Monday Afternoon. Officials said that a quake measuring 1.0 on the Richter Scale has the equivalent energy of a 60 watt light bulb left on for 9 hours straight. No damage was reported during the quake. 551 earthquakes have been recorded in New York state from the years 1737-2016, the largest ever registered was a 5.9 earthquake near Massena in 1944.

State Police have identified that human remains found in Morris recently as 38 year old Laura Rous of Otego. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding her disappearance and death is continuing. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the New York State Police at 607-561-7400.

State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation and the Computer Crimes Unit arrested 28 year old Davaun Chandler of Earlville for Promoting a Sexual Performance by a Child and Possessing a Sexual Performance by a Child. The arrest stems from a cyber tip received by the State Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, Chandler was arraigned and was remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility on $5000 cash, $10,000 bond.

43 year old Jillian Eckberg of Oneonta was sentenced to more than 5 years in prison trafficking methamphetamine, heroin and fentanyl. Eckberg admitted that she brought narcotics from New York City to customers in Tupper Lake, Saranac Lake and Lake Placid, Eckberg will also be under supervised release for four years following her prison term.
