Governor Cuomo announced today that the residential tenant eviction protection has been extended to January 1st.  The state’s Safe Harbor Act protects tenants from COVID-related residential evictions and foreclosures. Last week, the governor also announced an emergency moratorium on evictions and foreclosures for commercial tenants is being extended through October 20th.

Chenango County Public Health announced their latest COVID 19 numbers Monday.  They have had 249 cases since March; currently there are 2 Active Cases, 1 hospitalization, 73 Active Quarantines 227 Recoveries, 7 deaths and over 28,600 Tests Performed.

The Broome County Health Department’s contact tracing team has interviewed a confirmed positive COVID19 case who reported having participated in the New York Off-Road Association Boondocks event in Pitcher. The confirmed positive individual was there September 19th & 20th.  The Broome County Health Department also reported that a positive COVID case was from a person who was at the Old Union Hotel at 246 Clinton Street in Binghamton on Monday, September 21 between 4:00 and 8:30 PM.  The Health Department asks anyone who was at either location during those periods to quarantine until October 6th, anyone exhibiting symptoms should immediately begin self-quarantine and contact a medical provider.

Hartwick College today reported no new cases of COVID-19 have been detected among students or staff.  The current number of active cases is down to 2, their total number of cases detected on campus since August 1, 2020 is 18.

The Delaware County Chamber of Commerce will hold 2 virtual Meet the State Senate Candidates forums for local State Senate seats.  State Senate District 51’s event, featuring Democrat Jim Barber and Republican Peter Oberacker, will be held on Wednesday, October 21, starting at 12 noon. The State Senate 42nd District’s forum, featuring incumbent Democrat Jen Metzger and Republican Mike Martucci will be held on Thursday, October 22, starting at 10:00 am.  Both events are free and open to the public via Zoom, Connection information will be emailed prior to the event to all those who register at delawarecounty.org.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Department & State Police investigated a 2-car fatal accident Friday morning in Delhi.  Killed were 74 year old Sandra Elmore and her passenger, 80 year old Eugene Mills, both of Downsville.  Elmore was driving north on state Route 10 when her car crossed over into the southbound lane and collided with a car driven by 32 year old Michael Beilby of East Meredith.  The cause of the crash remains under investigation by members of the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division and State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit.

Governor Cuomo reported 866 COVID 19 cases on Saturday out of more than 84,000 tests conducted, bringing the Statewide Total to 455,626.  Patient Hospitalizations were back up to 541, there were 155 patients in ICU beds, & 59 on ventilators, there were 6 Deaths Saturday, the state death toll is 25,456

Village of Delhi Police Department arrested 58-year-old Gary Stevens of Delhi for Predatory Sexual Assault of a Child and 1st degree Rape; he is accused of engaging in sexual acts with a child less than 11 years of age. Stevens was remanded without bail to the Delaware County Jail after his arraignment.   This investigation is ongoing and additional charges may be filed in this case.

Delaware County Sheriff Office arrested 21 year old Sean Gillespie of Bovina following an investigation into the forgery of personal checks that were stolen from a Town of Bovina home.  Deputies charged Gillespie with 3rd degree grand larceny and 18 counts each of criminal possession of stolen property, criminal possession of a forged instrument & offering a false instrument for filing, for allegedly stealing nearly $4000 by using 18 stolen and forged checks, he was arraigned virtually & was released on his own recognizance pending his appearance in the Town of Delhi court on a later date.
