The Unatego Central School District will be soliciting proposals for repurposing the former Otego Elementary School, after the previous developer failed to meet deadlines, Unatego Superintendent Dr. Dave Richards comments:

The Otego property consists of the 2 floor former elementary school building & 4.85 acres of adjoining land.    The Request for Proposals is available online at unatego.org, or through the District Office at 988-5038.

Governor announced he will advance legislation to make the “New York Buy American” Act permanent.  The law requires all structural steel and structural iron used in all state road and bridge construction projects with contracts worth more than $1 million to be made in America.  The current law is set to expire April 2020.

A.O. Fox Hospital, part of Bassett Healthcare Network, has been awarded $10,000 by the MultiPlan Rural Health Grant Program to help launch a food “farmacy” based at its Tri-Town Campus in Sidney.  Spokesperson Sarah Buttice comments:

The prescription food location will open in January; Buttice said that they will partner with local businesses including Great American, Price Chopper, Hannaford, the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York, as well as local farms and food pantries.  In Delaware County, it is estimated that more than 8,400 people suffer from hunger.

Governor Cuomo is pushing to move up the state’s primary Election Day from April to February, in order to get a larger voter turnout by combining the presidential, congressional and state elections.  15 other states combine their primaries.

The Hancock Fire Department was dispatched to a 2 vehicle head on, car vs tractor-trailer, with serious injuries on State Highway 17 in the Village of Hancock early Sunday Morning.  1 victim was entrapped in the vehicle and another patient was injured but not entrapped. The entrapped patient was extricated; both patients were transported to Wilson Hospital with serious injuries. The cause of the accident remains under investigation.

Governor Cuomo announced $10 million in grant funding to strengthen local emergency response operations across the state through improvements to 911 emergency service dispatch operations. The funding is administered by the Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services through the Public Safety Answering Points Operations Grant.  Locally, Chenango county received $179,000, Delaware county $149,000 & Otsego County $164,000.
