The attempted murder case of 28 year old David Thomas of Oneonta will be heard in Otsego County Court following a Grand Jury Indictment.  Thomas faces charged is 2nd degree attempted murder, assault, & strangulation following a domestic dispute, he is being held at the Otsego County Jail on bail pending future court action.

Governor Cuomo is proposing a measure for school buses to be equipped with cameras to record drivers who illegally pass stopped school buses, and to put seat belts on school buses.  The proposals are included in the 2019-2020 state budget plan he released last week.  Police have reported alarming statistics regarding people driving past school busses with the flashing lights of while collecting or dismissing students.

State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli released the annual list of school districts in fiscal distress.  Locally, Norwich & Schenevus schools were ranked 3rd & 4th statewide with significant stress. schools listed as susceptible to fiscal stress included the Oxford Academy & the Binghamton City School district.

Both Houses of the State Legislature passed the “DREAM Act” yesterday in Albany, to extend state financial aid to students brought into the country illegally as children.  Governor Cuomo is expected to sign it into law.

UHS Chenango Memorial will launch their 2019 Women’s Health Series next week in Norwich.  Janice Minutti is a dietitian at UHS Chenango Memorial, She will give a presentation on Healthy Habits on Tuesday, January 29 at Bohemian Moon, 103 East Main Street in Norwich, doors will open at 6:00 PM, and the presentation will start at 7:00 PM.

Otsego County announced a clean energy finance program to help owners of commercial property and non-profits make their buildings more energy efficient.  Energize NY is a non-profit local development corporation that implements New York’s Property Assessed Clean Energy finance program on behalf of municipalities across New York State.  More information is available at EnergizeNY.org.

Village of Bainbridge officials announced that Bixby Street to route 206 will be closed until further notice.  A water main break was discovered in the area this morning, causing low pressure or no water to residence, and forced the Bainbridge Guilford School District to cancel classes today.

58 year old John Stacy of Norwich was sentenced to 17 1/2 years in prison, he was arrested in 2017 for possessing child pornography in his cell phone, and he was listed as a Level 2 sex offender on the State Sex Offender Registry for a previous conviction in 2002 for having sexual contact with a 5 year old.

Sidney School District Superintendent Bill Christensen announced that he will be leaving the Sidney distract on June 30th.  Christensen served as superintendent for the last 8 years; he said that he will be leaving to take a job in the private sector.

The Tri County Seniors present Pharmacist Dave Van Valkenburg this afternoon, who will discuss what seniors, should know about their medications.  The event will be held at 2:00 PM today at the Tri County Senior Center on the 1st floor of the Sidney Civic Center
